“First of many visits to Casa Palomita”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2017

I met friends from college on a recent trip to Oaxaca, and we stayed at Casa Palomita. First of all, the photos can't convey the beauty of this house: Birdsong in the morning, the trickling fountain, and the house decorated with beautiful local crafts (woven rugs, bedspreads, wall hangings and ceramics). We had a wonderful time! Lu the caretaker of the property can make reservations for massage, a taxi/guide, and local recommendations. The welcome book is very thorough, I read it and felt prepared for my trip. Indeed all was well. Bring a suitcase with enough room for all of the beautiful local crafts that you will find in the surrounding villages and markets! We will definitely be back--next time for a longer visit! Absolutely perfect!

“Oasis of calm in an exuberant city”

Reviewed 9 May 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your beautiful home in Oaxaca. The location was good as it was a straightforward walk to the Colonial part of the city---far enough to enjoy the exercise and close enough to gauge the time [15-20 mins max] to be at a venue, restaurant or plaza in El Centro. Transportation--taxis,buses---are a stone's throw from the house and we attended Baseball and Soccer games by public bus for a 6 pesos bus ride. The information/recommendations you provide are most helpful and sufficient to familiarize guests with the cities attractions and amenities. Oaxaca is very interesting city and has lots to see and do. Your house is a welcome haven at the end of a busy and sometimes tiring day and the well equipped kitchen enabled us to enjoy a relaxing dinner at home on a couple occasions. We would be happy to return and have recommended your casa to people we met during this trip.

“Home away from home at Casa Palomita”

Reviewed 22 Dec 2013

We really enjoyed our trip to Oaxaca and our stay at Casa Palomita. It has all the comforts of home and has been kept in top condition. Lu was wonderful. We would not have been able to find places or enjoy our stay as much without her. My husband chipped his tooth while we were there and Lu arranged to have him see her dentist who was great. He even went back for some more work. The furnishings and linens were very comfortable. The only thing which could have been improved upon (for us anyway) were the pillows on the bed (we only used the master bedroom). They were a bit flat and lumpy for our liking. But I know everyone has different tastes in pillows. I often slept with a second pillow which helped somewhat. That is the absolute only thing that I could think of that could be improved on. Everything was really great and we enjoyed our stay so much. Thank you so much for your attention to detail. It truly shows...

Response from the owner Dear Diane, Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. Lu emailed me last week to tell me that she purchased some new pillows for the beds, so that's good and sounded like they were really needed. Next time you stay with us, please feel free to bring these types of things up as you notice them to me or Lu directly so we can make sure you are comfortable right away. Kind regards, Maria

“Perfect place for us.”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2013

We totally enjoyed our visit to Casa Palomita. It was perfect for us. The on-site manager Lu is a delight, and was very helpful to us as was the information booklet provided by the owner. We felt safe in the house and in the community. We used Vidal to go to Monte alban and to the airport - professional and polite. The most enjoyable surprise was hearing the funeral music at the church next to El Tule. It was beautiful. And we loved the little Organic Market at the St Thomas church in Xochimilco. The people were so nice and it was not so overwhelming as the big markets. The produce we bought from there was the best that we had. Fresh guacamole every evening with our wine!

“Great accomodations!”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2013

We truly enjoyed our stay at your house in Oaxaca. It had been ten years since our last visit and it has become much busier. The location was perfect for walking downtown and we did so several times. The house was so comfortable that we felt right at home! We were very busy showing our friends around and bought many lovely things from the surrounding villages. Oaxaca remains one of our favorite places to visit and we will hopefully return to Casa Palomita in the future.

“A Very Special Place”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2013

Two couples, one currently living in ajijic MX and one in New Mexico enjoyed a wonderful week at Casa Palomita. Maria made reservation process very easy and was very responsive. Appreciate quick return of our security deposit. The Orientation booklet was very helpful--answered almost every question and then some. Lu met us on arrival and provided a nice orientation, offered many helpful tips. She was great help throughout our stay and very nice. The house was exactly as described--clean, nicely furnished and decorated with well stocked kitchen. The colors are its best feature--eye candy! Great location--20 minute walk to the zocalo with wonderful shops and restaurants all along the way. Calle alcala is mostly pedestrian mall so easy walk and very safe at all hours. Convenience store just 2 blocks away made getting groceries a breeze. We had Sra Flor (recommended by Maria) cook for us 2 nights--the meals were outstanding and very reasonable. We enjoyed watching her cook and came away with recipes we'll replicate at home. Don Vidal was wonderful chauffeur who we enjoyed being with for two day trips. We'd highly recommend him. He's an excellent and very safe driver who knows the villages well and has cultivated relationships with craftsmen so each trip was very special. Don't miss 94 year old Dona Sofie in San Bartolo Coyotepec--she's amazing! We loved every minute of our time in Oaxaca and Casa Palomita was an important part of the experience. Only negative was barking dog/s. Maria probably can't control this so be sure and bring ear plugs.

“soulful home”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2013

Dear Maria We are home and we are missing Oaxaca and our beautiful home in Oaxaca so very much. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your serene and soulful home; we loved every minute of our stay. Lu was wonderful to us. We managed to cook quite a bit in your magnificent kitchen and enjoyed listening to some of your Cd's. The books on Oaxaca were very helpful and I even managed to read one of your novels even though we were very busy exploring the surrounding valleys and streets of Oaxaca! Maria, Cliff and I hope to return to Oaxaca; perhaps we will meet you there some day? We have very special memories of people and places and now, at home, we look at our few pieces of pottery and beautifully woven shawls and just miss the mountains, villages and people. We are making an effort to improve our Spanish so that next visit we can talk more to Oaxacans. Thank you again,Maria; staying in your home made our stay a memory forever. Warm regards adrienne and Cliff

“Charming, beautiful home, very conveniently located”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed your home. Everything about it was wonderful! I literally felt energized and happier just walking into the place! It is obviously a home designed with love. Aside from all the colorful, beautiful touches, it was clean, comfortable and well equipped. It is such a great location too and Lu, the manager, was so sweet and wonderful. We were sad to only be able to stay 3 nights, but plan on returning for a longer stay next time.

“An oasis of calm and beauty”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2013

We just spent three lovely weeks at Casa Palomita. I wish we could have stayed longer! It was perfectly located within walking distance of everything, and yet it was amazingly peaceful and quiet. After walking all day to explore the sights, we would come back to a haven of calm. We loved meeting the local weavers and the tinsmith in the neighborhood, and went often to the lovely organic market and the children's library nearby. My daughter wrote a top ten list of things she loved best in Oaxaca, and Casa Palomita was number one! We truly could not have asked for anything more.

“Memories in the Making”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2013

The home was perfect, it truly sets the place of life in Oaxaca. We both hope that on our next visit to Oaxaca we will have the opportunity again to stay there.
