“going back seems inevitable”
It's not about the predictability of great weather nor the beauty of the Umbrian countryside. It wasn't the history, architecture and epic food on offer; those are the guarantees of going to the area. What you you see on the web site is what you get, but it can't tell the whole story For us and our daughters, the welcome and engagement from David, Chrissie and family was what made our 2 weeks a holiday really special. Perhaps the rapturous response from our local Italian friend that visited us is the representation of just how "spot on" this place really is. Going back seems inevitable.
Response from the owner thank you so much We all had so much fun and we would love to have you back again one day lots of love to all xx
“Lovely refuge in the hills of Umbria”
We stayed at CSG in what was apparently the hottest week of the year - 38 degrees in the shade. This meant the pool set with the uninterrupted views of the Umbrian countryside got plenty of use, and the fantastic and comfy sun chairs with big umbrellas. Chrissie and David were very helpful with local recommendations and La Stalla was just cosy enough for two with a beautiful modern bathroom and excellent water pressure! Plenty to do in the region from wandering hilltop towns, water sports or just roaming around for good simple Italian food. Grazie and arrivederci!
Response from the owner Dear Alex Thank you very much. Take care xx
“A week just wasn't long enough....”
It was a super hot day when we arrived on top of being awake since 3am but what a brilliant sight it was when we arrived at Casa San Gabriel! Beautiful location set up in the hills with gorgeous views. Chrissie and David were really welcoming and ensured that we had everything we needed to get settled in. Plus all the extra toys and books much to the delight of our daughter! We were out pretty much everyday to so many amazing hilltop towns all within an hour of Casa San Gabriel. (Assisi, Gubbio, Spoleto, Montone and more). Returning back to the house was great knowing we could splash around in the pool and our daughter could play in the children's playground. Meantime we could enjoy good food, wine and beautiful views. Thank you to Chrissie and David for their hospitality we are definitely thinking of returning next year.
Response from the owner Thank you so much, it was a pleasure to have you here We do hope we see you again in the future Take care xx
“Peace and tranquitity during a hectic tour of Italy.”
I have stayed with Chrissie and David on two previous occasions, and was looking forward to spending a couple of days with them this year. I travel to Italy to shear alpacas, including the ones at CSG, and visit 10 farms in 8 days, travelling in excess of 2000kms. This year with a new shearing colleague, I told him to expect fantastic hospitality and spectacular scenery and we were not disappointed. We arrived from Montegiorgio late afternoon and were soon at work shearing the alpacas, ably assisted by Eli and Lucia, David and Chrissie also took part, but in more of a management role, I felt! A quick swim, followed by a fantastic supper with plenty of catching up and a welcome nights sleep. The following day was shearing in Arezzo and Montone, and back to Casa San Gabriel for another swim and a barbecue. This gave us the most difficult decision of the stay, who made the best dessert, Eli or Lucia? The second hardest decision was how much of David's wine we could get in the suitcase, well worth a try. I will let you make your own mind up, if you get to sample the delights of the two young chefs at this establishment or the wine. Thoroughly recommend a stay at Casa San Gabriel, nothing is too much trouble for the hosts and all the facilities are maintained to the highest standards. Can't wait until next year, in fact I don't think I will wait until next year, I'll might get there again this year !
Response from the owner Thank you Look forward to seeing you soon xx
We had the most perfect holiday at CSG - it is rare that a holiday exceeds expectation but that was certainly the case with our 2 weeks in Umbria, and much credit for this should go to David, Chrissie & family for creating a very special place to go and stay and having the good nature and ability to run it in a way that makes the guests feel both very welcome and attended to without ever being intruded upon.
Response from the owner thank you so much It was a pleasure to have you here xx
Located in a beautiful Umbrian valley, David & Chrissie have restored an amazing 16th century farm house and idyllic stone cottages to a very high standard. This is our second stay at Casa San Gabriel & our first time with our 3 year old son. He absolutely loved the swimming pool, play garden, meeting Alpca's, Pizza night & making friends with the other children that were also on holiday. We enjoyed walking through the peace and quiet of the olive groves, sampling the locally produced food & wine. We visited Siena, Lake Trasimeno & the local market town of Umbertide. Thank you again to our perfect hosts, looking forward to our next visit!
Response from the owner Thank you so much It was lovely having you again, xxx
“Wonderful welcome in a stunning setting”
We had a fantastic week at Casa San Gabriel during the May half term holiday this year. There is so much to recommend - ease of getting there from Perugia airport (important when travelling with children on Ryanair!), the amazing location and views, lovely rustic and well-equipped cottage, the swimming pool (bracing in May but wonderful!). Most of all, the warm welcome we received from Chrissie, David, the girls, the dogs and the alpacas. Highlights were watching fireflies from the terrace, some excellent food and wine, climbing nearby Monte Acuto and enjoying the local festa in Pierantonio with Chrissie and family. We couldn't recommend this lovely place highly enough and we will definitely be back.
Response from the owner Thank you so much We would love to see you again have a lovely summer xx
“A peaceful and beautiful landscape - a lovely escape”
I think all the other glowing reviews have covered what a beautiful and unique location this is and we would certainly agree. We had a splendid holiday and our favourite thing was the private shady terrace and deck chairs. We spent some very happy evenings just watching the stars and fireflies and enjoying the pure quiet. The food in Umbria is spectacular and we cooked up a storm with all the lovely local produce. Sitting on the terrace and eating all the beautiful food al fresco as a family we were able to feel properly Italian! One evening we had a meal on the terrace cooked by the owners and it was a treat, if you have the chance we would thoroughly recommend this. There is also a huge amount to see and do in close proximity and thorough information is provided to enjoy the area. The family are very child friendly and our 3 year old had lots to do and experience. The only change we would make is not hiring the cheapskate bottom of the range VW 'Up' which struggled with the strada bianca. Having said that it made it and we got a lot better at the drive by the end of the week! In summary, if you are considering one of these cottages definitely go for it.
Response from the owner Thank you so much take care and hope to see you again soon xx
“Perfect escape to the Italian countryside”
Having visited for a second time, I can confidently say three components intertwine seamlessly to create the perfect relaxing environmemt. Situated at the top of a beautiful valley commanding expansive views over vineyards and forested hills, you feel a world away from the business of roads and traffic, yet are only 10 minutes drive away from the nearby towns of Umbertide and Pierantonio . Quiet walking trails and wild asparagus growing on the property complete the picture. When it comes to rest, the original stone cottage we stayed in (La Stalla) is well equipped with all modern comforts, yet feels naturally part of the landscape. The al fresco area allowed us to enjoy some well chosen local wine with a stunning sunset. Thirdly, the genuinely warm welcome from hosts David & Chrissie and their two daughters completes the setting. The are most hospitable and assisted with bookings for wonderful restaurants, recommedned us local truffle and wine shops and hosted us for an evening meal of pizza cooked in the original stone oven. For an escape from the city as a couple or family, you will have a wonderful time. We certainly did and will return.
“Here, you can have it all - absolutely wonderful place!”
This is a place where everything comes together beautifully. The location is perfect. So close to so much and the accommodation itself is situated to present breath taking views. We loved being so close to major towns as well as picturesque smaller ones. The cottages come with an information folder that is very helpful in organising your days and knowing what's happening and where. The cottage we stayed in was exceptionally clean and well presented and appointed. Chrissie and David are attentive and warm, provide great conversation and yet are never in your space. You can feel as connected or as alone as you may like. Their young daughters are gracious and caring and I left hoping my 2 year old granddaughter will display their kindness and generosity of spirit at their young age. We will be coming back with friends as this is a place to share the magic. A big thank you to you all.
Response from the owner Dear Jackie and Les Thank you so much, it was a pleasure having you and look forward to seeing you one day in the future Take care xx
