“A Little Bit of Heaven”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2012

In april of 2009 three friends and I were fortunate enough to have found Chez Parsonage. We stayed two wonderful weeks and while there were able, with the help of a rental car, to see much of the surrounding area and return at night to one of the most tranquil country settings in a little hamlet of ten houses. With a Brocante (antique store) just up the road we were entertained by the vast array of all things old and some new, from chandeliers to lace. There was time for many country walks and bike rides and the markets close by were superb. The town of Brantome is not to be missed. Stunning in its layout; see Riberac is were you'll find the market for lovely fresh and wonderful foods of all sorts. Don't miss this. The home is very comfortable and can sleep up to two couples in the double beds and there is a very comfortable sofa on the main floor (I know as this was my bed). The kitchen has everything you'll need to cook up a wonderful french dinner to be served on the patio out back overlooking the farmed fields. Truly a little bit of heaven.

“Tranquility and Value in the Dordogne”

Reviewed 12 Mar 2012

We have stayed here twice in the past few years. This is an excellent place to relax and unwind and experience the French countryside. It is also an outstanding value. There are many good walks in the surrounding area and many easy day trips from this location in the picturesque Dordogne countryside. The house is freestanding with a garage to park your car and a caretaker nearby for your every need. There is also a lovey garden patio with views over the neighbouring fields and gardens. It's a great place to practice your French!

“A real chill out!”

A lovely cosy cottage with wonderful views over the dordogne countryside. Clean crisp sheets on the bed! The village was like stepping back 50 years. Wonderful walks and cycling. Would definitely go again. The Fords

“Excellent Value”

The little house at Marteille, close to Cercles, was exactly what we wanted. Situated in a tiny hamlet, the house comprised of a large lounge (with English TV (we didn't watch it!)), a well equipped kitchen/diner and a decent sized bathroom on the ground floor. Upstairs there were two large cmfortable bedrooms. Mme Joubert, who looked after the house for the owners, was welcoming, showed us around and answered any questions we had. (Mme Joubert does not speak English). The nearest shops were at La Tour Blanche - about 3 miles away. My wife travelled to the beautiful city of Periguieux every other day to dialyses in the hospital there - this was about 25 minute drive away and has, as you would expect a vast array of shops/supermarkets etc.. Sandra Parsonage, the owner was so helpful. The informtion given before was wholly accurate although we did have a little problem paying the deposit to her in Canada - but that was a problem with the English Banking system! We booked the house for the following year and paid the deposit. Unfortunately my wife was too ill to travel and subsequently died. We gave Sandra about 8 or 10 weeks notice and was amazed that she fully refunded our deposit. How kind! I would thoroughly recommend this owner and their property.
