“Superb value for money”
I agree with all the great reviews this place has already received. We stayed here for 5 nights and loved it. The owners make sure that you will enjoy your stay. This place has everything you need - from mosquito coils to tupperware containers for your left-overs! We appreciated having basic supplies such as salt & pepper, oil, butter, milk and coffee that were just enough for our stay. The bure is located on a dead end road (Cousteau Resort at the end of the road), just 5km out of Savusavu. The last part is not tar sealed, but okay without a 4 WD. The views from the deck are wonderful and you can choose from two different outdoor areas to sit. There's even a BBQ. We loved the shower that you can almost convert into an outdoor shower by opening the outside door. The only thing that might be a downside to some people is that Bayside bure only has two single beds that your can't join, as opposed to a double or queen/king bed. However, this way your partner won't pull away your sheets ;-) Free wifi is also an added bonus. Oh, the compendium lists a local lady who offers massages at a great price (FJ$50 for an hour) and it's absolutely worth it - she comes to the bure with her massage table - truely relaxing! If we ever travel back to Vanua Levu, this will be our first choice!
I don't know where to begin, after a 1 hour flight from Nadi International airport we were met immediately at Savusavu airport by a friendly and knowledgeable taxi driver (complimentry). After a scenic ride through Savusavu town we arrived at Bayside Bure. We were greeted by Edward and briefed on the facilities and amenities. The design and decor is top notch and is a great value for any traveler. The paintings by Karen, (our hostess), add a relaxing feeling while indoors. The main room is open and airy with a ocean facing balcony that provides awesome views of Savusavu Bay and breath-taking Fijian sunsets. A short walk leads to an excellent sandy beach that is easily accessible for excellent snorkeling opportunities or just a dip in the ocean to get wet. The long beach is perfect for long morning and evening walks which were always a pleasant experience and also a great way to meet the neighbors. There was also a complimentary double kayak to use at our convenience if we wanted to do more adventurous explorations. Fijians are very friendly & Edward and Karen go above and beyond. I have yet to meet more amazingly generous hosts. From the location to the amenities, we could not find a single item for complaint. In summary, I would definitely recommend the Bayside Bure to a friend or anyone that wants to experience a comfortable, relaxing & trouble free vacation. Vinaka vakalevu!
“Amazing place and amazing hosts”
I stayed here with my two children - ages 7 and 11. Karen and Edward are amazing hosts and, while living just up the drive, left us to do our own thing - but were also available to answer any questions or give advice. The beach is fun and safe and it's just a short walk along the beach to the jetty and Jean-Michel Cousteau's which we were able to use for jumping off into the sea and for snorkelling. Savusavu is a hidden gem in Fiji and I recommend anyone thinking of a Fiji holiday to include it in their itinerary... and if they do, to stay in one of the places offered by Karen and Edward.
“Wonderful cottage to satisfy all your needs!!!”
We arrived at the Bayside Bure on a rainy day, which happened to also be Fiji Day, and the town was all but shut down, besides a small store. We had a day and a half of traveling under our belt and in much need of a relaxing night with a beer in hand, and Edward was so kind enough to give us some!! That's how our week started out and it continued to get better! The kitchen was the most used room of the Bure by far! We did not want to eat out every meal, so this was a kitchen away from home, with all your utensils and anything else you could think of. We also like very much that the kitchen is separate from the living quarters of the Bure. Besides the constant use of the kitchen, we got a lot of use out of the kayak they had for us to use. They were also so kind and borrowed us a pair of snorkeling gear and we could go right off the shore in front of the Bure!! How amazing is that! We were very comfortable and pleased with our stay, more than we could put into words, and anyone that goes to Savusavu should check this place out! If we ever come back to Savusavu we know where we will be staying again!
“One week in "Paradise"”
Last month we spent a week staying at Bayside Bure, Savusavu, as our neice was getting married there. We couldn't have asked for better accommodation - the home is lovely, has a "friendly" feel about it, the location, well, perfect is all I can say - just across the road from the beach, set in a beautiful tropical garden, just sitting on the deck enjoying the boats going by was a joy. The amenities were all you could want for, I loved the fact that the kitchen was seperated from the home itself. Last but not least, our host and hostess - Karen and Edward were lovely. We would definitely recommend Bayside Bure to others, and we would certainly stay there again
“beautiful beachside bure”
This is an excellent place to stay perfect for two, right on the coast in a lovely tropical garden setting. karen and edward are great hosts and can provide all the information you might need to explore the island and its beautiful snorkelling & diving, We really enjoyed relaxing here and paddling around in the kayak from which we snorkelled and explored the coast. If we went back we wouldn't bother renting a car as bus/taxis are readily available - we highly recommend you try the surf'n'turf restaurant in savusavu town... we are looking forward to our next visit
“Private, relaxed accommodation in a lovely tropical setting with”
We had 7 relaxing nights enjoying the ambience of Ed and Karens lovely beach bure. Karen and Edward have made sure that the bure is very well equipped from cooking needs, mosquito coils(definitely needed),beach mats and towels and a double kayak. The beach is literally a stones throw away and great snorkeling can be found all along the beach front and the beautiful split rock formation only 200 meters away with masses of inquisitive zebra fish and a big variety of coral formations. You won't need a car as taxi rides into town are very cheap and buses run regularly. If you want to explore more of the island just book a car for a day or two from Edward. There are several places to eat in town, the surf and turf ,fantastic food, highly recommended and the marina cafes are also great for a more casual snack, right on the water. If you want a real treat the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is wonderful. We can't recommend the beach bure and it's location highly enough.it's not luxury but great value for money, very clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated in a beach theme, just like going to you own beach shack. Enjoy!
“A wonderful place !”
We stayed there several nights and had a nice time. The bure is just great : big enough, clean, open kitchen, terrace... All what you need to cook is in the bure, it was perfect. And Karen and Edward were really friendly, reaylly helpful. One of the best place we have had in Fidji ! Anne (france)
“Simple beach lifestyle with all the amenities”
We have stayed here several times...it is simple, uncomplicated island living with modern conveniences! The location is hard to beat - it's quiet so you can hear the ocean and the birds, It's private without being isolated. Cross the road and you have your own beach with magnificent snorkeling at your door step. It's easy to get in to town...just flag the bus down right outside the front door, grab a taxi (it's cheap) or stroll as it is an easy walk (6kms). If you want to splash out you can walk to the end of the road and have a lovely meal at the 5+star Jean-Michel Cousteou Resort as it's only a 10 minute walk. The self contained bure is charming in it's simplicity. The layout is perfect, you can walk straight into the shower from outside to avoid dragging sand into the bure or enter into the living space if coming back after a trip into town. The separate kitchen is lovely and has all the utensils and appliances you need. And the bure has extras like free local phone calls (so you can order a taxi), hot water, a washing machine, TV/DVD player, and even blow up mattresses (lilo's) for the beach! Karen and Edward, the owners, are helpful and friendly but respect your privacy. Staying here is the perfect place to enjoy paradise. We can't wait to return...again and again.
“Bayside Bure - beautiful!”
Very clean and a lot of consideration towards comfort. Beautiful location, nestled in the garden and shaded by trees. White sandy beach across the road. Karen and Eddie are helpful and ensure your stay in tropical paradise is thoroughly enjoyable.
