“Heaven for wine lovers and those wanting a relaxing break”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2014

This accommodation was well laid out, spotless and sufficient size for a couple to stay at. The interior was a through room with a 2 seater sofa that was very comfy to snuggle up on after the sun had gone down. The kitchen was functional and met all of our needs during our stay. The mattress on the double bed was very comfortable and was not too soft or too hard. The shower worked perfectly and because of the skylight the bathroom was well lit during daylight hours, and sufficiently lit by the overhead bulb in the night. The private patio overlooked the pool and was warm into the late evening. We usually ate here about 1900 and stayed out until about 2100 when it became very dark, even with the outside light. It was also a nice area to sit in in the late afternoon if you wanted to be out of the sun and just relax. The pool itself is a reasonable size for the property, and its surrounding area was clean and well maintained. There are sufficient sunbeds and umbrellas for 3 couples to share the pool without it seeming overcrowded. Andy the owner was very welcoming, friendly and full of good ideas of about what to do/see in the surrounding area. If you are really lucky, the Richard will bake at least one cake during your stay. We got a Victoria Sponge cake that was divine. We had one small issue arising during our stay and Andy dealt with the issue promptly and with the minimum of fuss. We could not have asked for a better host, who was available without being intrusive. The wine tour with Andy is a must. It was the best day of our trip and we learnt a lot about the region, its wine and the other guests on the tour. The lunch that Andy took us too was also of a high standard, particularly considering where it was (a local builders cafe) and the cost. My fiancée is a pescitarian was easily accommodated by them with notice from Andy. The first stop on the tour was a proper Chateauin a 'castle' with a lovely view of the Fronsac region. This was a very commercial exercise, but the tour through the wine cellars where 1000000 bottles of wine are stored was a highlight. The second stop was in the Pomerol region and the vineyard we visited was a throwback to the 1960s in its philosophy and techniques. This chateua (not castle) is very near Chateau Petrus and its wines are of a very high standard too. The owner Hugh is a very typical Frenchman who has a wonderful life story and welcomes you as though you are a long lost member of the family. He cracks open a barrel of wine for you to sample and serves it in glasses via huge pipette. It is not only a wonder to behold, but also a joy to sample, and the samples keep on coming. For quality/price, this would be the place that I recommend you buy the majority of your take home wine. Unfortunately, Hugh does not ship. The last chateau we visited was right around the corner from the accommodation, and produced the wine that was in the accommodation as a welcome gift. This was the best visit from a social point because you are welcomed into their lives/house to sample their wine and you feel like an honoured guest into their lives. The wine here is also good, but to my palate I prefer the Pomerol region. Our only complaint about the wine tour was that we wished it had happened earlier in our stay. We cannot recommend this accommodation or the other 2 apartments here strongly enough and will hopefully be returning next year.

“A French haven”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2013

The service we received was above and beyond any we have had before in France. The house was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Our outside area was fantastic for eating in the shade and the pool wonderful for relaxing in the sun. A very quiet and relaxing week. The wine tour offered by the owners is well worth the money, an interesting and entertaining day out. A walk in the vineyards in the evening as the sun was setting was a must. The only reason we would be reluctant to recommend is that it may be booked up the next time we want to stay!!!

“Lovely, welcoming place to relax”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2013

A welcome pack is provided which enabled us to have the perfect evening meal on the terrace after a long days drive through France. We spent most of the time relaxing by the pool since the weather was sooo hot, but it is situated right in the heart of a wine region with lots of villages and vineyards selling their own wine to visit. Both Bordeaux and Bergerac are in easy range. Although we did not actually spend much time in it, the cottage interior was beautifully decorated, just the right size and contains everything you might think you require. The owners are available if you need them - but leave you to enjoy your holiday.

“Quite,friendly spotlessly clean, superb”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2012

Excellent time, from the lovely "Welcome pack" to the friendly goodbyes a super experience. The Gite had everything you need and was spotlessly clean and very homely. Right through our stay the owners could not have been more helpful, with local knowledge and friendly advice on the countryside. Generally nothing could be faulted, we will be back next year. If you want a quiet base in which to explore the area then I can highly recommend this accommodation to you.!!

“A little bit of paradise !!”

Reviewed 22 Feb 2012

We have visited most areas of France and stayed in some very nice places. This has got to rank as one of the best. So good in fact we have stayed here a couple of times. The owners are very discreet but on hand if needed, very friendly and knowlegable too! The cottage is very well equipped with quality fittings and very clean. The area is very quiet with no passing traffic. Placed in the middle of an outstanding wine producing area... vines everywhere. In short a little piece of paradise just waiting to be visited. We will return.
