“Excellent base for the Bordeaux region”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2014

This was our 2nd stay here - the first time we've ever made a return trip somewhere. The cottage is of a high standard and whilst it's a shared pool area, you do have your own private garden for relaxing in. St Emilion and the surrounding area are stunning and you can't help but be totally relaxed when you're there. Andy is a font of local knowledge and can make many recommendations on where to go/what to do/what restaurants to head for or avoid. He also introduced us to some fantastic local chateau owners where we could go for wine tastings and to stock up on wine for back home. Richard is a mighty fine chef and provided many culinary treats during our stay! The cottages provide a great base for exploring the region, although the local villages and towns provide enough to keep you entertained if you don't want to travel far. All in all a really lovely place to go on holiday and we're already thinking about when to make our third trip back to Vine Cottage.

“A lovely retreat with great hospitality”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2014

Had a really lovely weeks stay at this property where we really felt at home. We originally booked the Vine cottage and were "upgraded" to the larger Lavender cottage. The property is tidy and well taken care of. The cottage is really spacious with all the comforts of home, and has a large courtyard with a view over the neighbouring vineyard. It is rare to find a holiday rental which is so well equipped - all your kitchen needs, utensils and cooking essentials (i.e. cooking oil, salt & pepper etc) were provided which was really helpful - not to mention the wine/beer/juice/milk/bread on arrival to get you started for the week. The warm hospitality from owners Andy and Richard is noteworthy - many great recommendations from Andy; home baked apple tarts from Richard! We took part in Andy's wine tour - a fun day and entertaining day out visiting a diverse range of local vineyards. Overall we had a great stay and would highly recommended.

“Well presented, well equipped and with friendly, helpful owners”

Finding your way to a holiday property is usually the first hurdle and can be quite stressful, not in this case. Comprehensive instructions and a text from Andy on the day all helped to ensure that we found Vine Cottage without difficulty. The welcome pack of essential provisions (including a bottle of wine) all help to make the stay easier. It is an attractive property with a private garden ideal for enjoying the sunshine on good days. Often the level of equipment in holiday properties is a bit basic. Not here, the kitchen has everything a keen cook needs including sharp knives which is a bonus. Andy is ready to offer advice about the locality and the odd indulgent treat from Richard's baking was very welcome too! Overall a very relaxing holiday in a friendly, well-run cottage.

“A luxury holiday in wanderful surroundings with great hosts, foo”

We have just returned home from our second stay with andrew and Richard. The first time we stayed in Lavender cottage and wanted to stay there again as we loved it so much. However it was booked and we settled for Vine cottage. This was not second best (as we thought it might be) but equally good. All the cottages (we looked at Rose cottage whilst there), are really comfortable - great beds and bed linen, well equipped kitchens, ( a dishwasher, hurray - very rare in rented cottages in France) and lovely bathrooms . Topped by comfortable sofas and international TV for chilling out and keeping up with the news if wanted. Alternatively, if you want to be quiet, forget the world, read and rest, this is also the place to do it as it's so peaceful amongst the vines. I have travelled all over France and never found a gite of this standard so reasonably priced, actually at any price!! What makes the whole experience so special is the wonderful welcome from andy and Richard, the comfort (in all the cottages), the location, and the great food . For me and probably many people on holiday, it's just wonderful to know that it's not going to be a 'busman's holiday, cooking all the time etc. Apart from the delight of arriving to a great home cooked meal, A bottle of wine and all you need for breakfast, it's wonderful to know that such good food is available on request whenever you want it. We love the area and never tire of wandering through the vineyards, popping into Bordeaux and exploring Liborne - under rated and a great place. St Emilion is of course the jewel in the crown. The coast is a short drive away with wonderful beaches , spectacular sunsets and something for all tastes. We found excellent restaurants in the area, recommended by our hosts but it was also lovely after a long hard day tasting wines to come home to a delicious meal! We plan to return soon , in fact as often as we can.

“Better than all expectations!”

We have just come back from spending 2 weeks at this lovely cottage, I don't normally write reviews but in this case I just thought I had to share my experience. The cottage is set in a rural, quiet location, surrounded by beautiful chateaus and vines, local villages and towns about 5 - 15 minutes drive away. The clean cottage had everything you would need to be self sufficient and the hospitality was brilliant - nothing was too much trouble. The pool was cleaned each day and comfortable sun loungers too! I will be recommending it to our family and friends - ideal too for large families with the individual cottages and shared pool.

“Great location amongst the vineyards. Hosts could not be more he”

We have stayed at Vines & Roses on 3 occasions, 2006-8-9. The location is superb amongst the vineyards. The villages of Listrac and Puisseguin are within easy walking distance. St Emelion is a short drive away and is one of the most beautiful villages we have come across in our travels. There is a market on most days at a different village within the area. The accommodation is extremely comfortable and the hosts could not do enough for us. Could not recommend this property more highly. Return visit cannot come quick enough.

“A holiday to catch your breath”

A wonderfully warm welcome in a very well equipped gite with absolutely every kitchen utensil you could possibly need. Perfect setting and very well located for visiting this beautiful area. The list of local markets & amazing family run wine chateaux provided was very useful and we spent many happy hours visiting some of them. The wines were superb & cheap!!!

“A little dream , beautiful setting , charming and so welcoming.”
