“Loved this little cabin! The ONLY way to experience the Black Hills!”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2017

We so enjoyed staying at our own "home away from home". Not only was this cabin adorable, it was historic. The cabin was built in the 1930's (during the depression) by the Civilian Conservation Corps and moved to this location by Wolfgang and Kathleen in 1984 when Wolfgang built a kitchen on the front of the cabin. Older childrens would love this place! There is a loft where two beds are waiting for them to enjoy. Lots of wildlife. We had nightly visits from whitetail deer and turkeys. Centrally located with a beautiful drive to Deadwood, Lead, Spearfish, Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore plus all other local attractions. Added feature...very private!

“"Little House"”

We have been meaning to leave a review from our stay last fall - 2012. We are planning a trip to the Hills in the near future and my daughters (ages 10 & 13 yrs) requested that we return to the cute little cabin near Nemo. We are sad that it is not available but we know that someone will be enjoying their stay. We loved the coziness of this cabin - it was like living in a story book. The kitchen was small but had everything we needed. We enjoyed grilling and eating out on the picnic table. There are nice hiking trails in the area - many that Wolfgang recommended. We enjoyed playing games in the evening and the girls just loved the loft. What a magical place! Thanks Wolfgang & Kathleen!

“Peaceful and Perfect”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2012

My husband, our 19 yr old son, and I stayed at this cabin for 4 nights. When we travel, we prefer to stay out of the tourist areas in a place where we can enjoy God's nature. This cabin was perfect for that purpose. We took day trips and usually returned "home" in the evening to enjoy the cabin. Window air conditioners & fans were provided, but we never used them as we were able to just leave the windows open & enjoy the fresh air. Every dish, pan, & appliance we needed was provided. The kitchen table & outdoor table were small, but were ok for the 3 of us. Bath soap is provided. When I was cleaning up, I noticed shampoo was also in the bathroom cupboard. A washer & dryer are provided for your use at $3/load, but we did not use them. The main bed was very comfortable. Our 19 year old slept on one of the twin mattresses in the loft, & he was ok with that. There is also a pull-out sofa/sleeper in the spacious main living area. The TV has plenty of stations, but you will not get cell phone reception or WiFi in the cottage. We drove just a couple miles up the road and could use our cell phones. This cabin may be a little too far away from the "tourist areas" for someone wanting a place where they could stop off during the day, but it is perfect for someone wanting to take day trips and return in the evenings. We had no problem getting to the cabin using Wolfgang and Kathleen's instructions, but we did arrive before dark. One evening we came home late from a different road, and since it is so dark & the roads are not always marked well, we ended up driving out of the way before realizing we missed our turn-off. The cabin is fairly close to the road, but it is still private. The owners were very gracious and easy to work with. They have a nice book giving ideas for day trips. We already had our vacation planned, but took some of their advice on restaurants and hiking trails. All were great!
