I traveled with my husband and two other couples for a much needed vacation. We are busy professionals and we could not have found a more perfect place to relax and re-charge. The house was ideal - lots of living space but private areas for each couple and it was incredibly well stocked! The surroundings were beautiful and so peaceful. Joan and Hugh are the perfect hosts! I highly recommend this heavenly retreat!!!
“Unforgettable wedding weekend at the Rockcliffe Farm Lodge”
They say that memories and experiences shared with your loved ones are priceless. You will know the true meaning of this saying once you spend some time at the Lodge. The location is amazing - it is secluded and private with lots of land and forest around. The house is gorgeous - very well maintained and you can see that it is decorated with a thought and love. You can have small or large company, the house would accommodate it all. The most important part is that the owners Joan and Hugh are fantastic!!! The most kind and thoughtful people we met. We had a 4-day long weekend with a small wedding celebration hosted at the house. The scenery was perfect for the romantic ceremony outside and large living room provided plenty of space for the reception. Joan and Hugh were very helpful in our preparation and planning for the weekend. They also were instrumental in making sure that our friends and wedding guests are entertained and relaxed. Hugh shared some fishing tricks as well as equipment and even allowed to catch almost all of the fish from his pond (sorry about that :) You will have the trails right by the house, camp fire seating and fire pits in two locations. There is fishing, exploring trails, playing games outside or just staying in the hammock and reading a book - plenty of activity when you want it and plenty of opportunity for peace and quiet if thats what you are looking for. Whatever you need - the Lodge has it and if not, the wonderful owners and hosts will be working very hard at offering that to you. We started our family at the lodge and the memory of the house, nature and warmth of the reception we received from Hugh and Joan will always stay with us. Our guests already waiting for an invitation to celebrate anniversary at the lodge next year and years to come.
I was looking for a place for quiet time for vacation, to spend with family and friends..Rockcliffe Farm retreat and lodge was over and beyond our expectations..The lodge was beautiful and serene with plenty of space for all 16 of us..Our stay was perfect, largely because of the perfect host..Joan and Hugh were always available for questions and the lodge was ready for us down to the cake left on the table to welcome us..It was like going on vacation and being right at home with family..Our kids had an awesome time as well, they were able to help feed and care for the horses and Hugh even spent time with my son in his gunsmith shop to explain what he does...I can't say enough great things about how wonderful this trip was..We will be returning next year for another vacation and hopefully this fall when the leaves begin to change..It;s wonderful to know that Rockcliffe is a place away from a tv and video game to get your kids outside and enjoy the finer things in life..They are begging to go back...
“An enchanting getaway location with everything you could want!”
A group of friends and I wanted to find a location for a reunion weekend to relax and unwind as well as catch up with those of us who have moved to different parts of the country over the last several years. We found Rockcliffe Farm Lodge as we were looking for a retreat in the mountain/forest setting and were completely blown away by not only the beauty of the location and the lodge itself, but by what great lengths Hugh had Joan (the owners) had gone to in order to insure we had a wonderful time. It is no exaggeration to say that they thought of everything! As we looked through the house we found everything labeled, all the linens/towels provided for, warm cozy beds, a fully-stocked kitchen, 2 fire pits, a hammock, a beautifully landscaped property location, the list went on and on. Joan even had baked a cake for us and left ice cream in the freezer. It was totally above and beyond, they went the extra mile to a point that I've never seen in any vacation rental anywhere. A great big 'thank You' goes out to Hugh and Joan for their hospitality and for truly making us feel at home for our retreat/reunion. We really enjoyed ourselves and truly want to come back for future events.
Wonderful place and fabulous host and hostess! My sister and I came for a week visit with our families. Plenty of space and surprising luxurious. All of the benefits of a hotel like big, comfortable beds with wonderful sheets. Hugh and Joan made us feel so welcome, kids, dogs and all! Great walks and picnics by the river. Plenty of space at the lodge, lots of games and books, and a full kitchen with anything you would need. I can definitely see us returning to The Lodge! Perfect mountain getaway!
“It's a wonderful place .we really love it.”
Rockcliffe farm Lodge has everything that we need for our stay. The Lodge is remodel and new, very elegant and we really like the owner.Joan is so sweet and helpful.I recommend every one who are looking for place to reunion or vacation, this is the one you need to try out.We had a wonderful time.
“"Friggin awesome" according to my kids”
My boys --ages 8 and 11--loved this place and the grown ups did too. Best of hotel amenities (inc. great linens, towels, furnishings, soaps etc.) plus a jacuzzi, a recreation room with a full sized ping pong table, a kitchen with all the dishes/utensils, a library room, and a cook out area for s'mores! Lots of family games/magazines as well, and great fishing for kids in the pond across the street. We can't wait to go back!
My wife and I (from Charlottesville) hosted our (Boston) daughter and her two young children at Rockcliffe during a lovely Memorial Day weekend. We were all surprised by the spaciousness, beauty, and functionality of the interior. Upon entering, our 10 year old grandson declared, "Friggin' awesome." Later that night after a thorough historical exploration of appomattox Courthouse, the 8 year old slid into the Jacuzzi, declaring it "Sweet." This pretty well sums it up for us. Joan and Hugh are wonderful hosts, their lodge is a soothing retreat from work and crowds, and the woods are so beautiful and peaceful. This lodge is especially good for large families or small groups, offering several bedrooms with their own bath, a rec room for the kids (ping pong!), and a fishing pond for bluegill and small bass.
“Beauty at its best”
For the last two years, our team we're taking to Ethiopia has stayed at Rockcliffe for an overnight retreat. I told Joan that if it's up to me, we will continue staying there year after year. What a wonderful house in a beautiful, relaxed, woodsy setting! The house has everything you need and is set in the middle of woods.
“Perfect spot for a wedding or relaxing retreat!”
We stayed at Rockcliffe and had our wedding reception there. Joan and Hugh were amazing and the pictures I hope speak for how magical and beautiful the property is. The cabin is rustic yet refined and all of the things you need are pretty much there. It's quite yet convenient...and the river frontage is great too! Overall, our wedding was magical and perfect not only because of the spot but because Joan and Hugh were professional yet personable.
