“I found Shangri-La in Oaxaca!”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2014

Luxurious, beautifully designed Oaxaca retreat! Manager and housekeeper lovely, gracious hostesses in a Treat of Home Away from Home.....Walking distance from Santa Domingo, the Zocalo, the Cathedral, Soledad.....any and all restaurants and shops, and just a block away from a wonderful neighborhood Mercado which has the best Oaxacan mole tamales and empanadas in Oaxaca! I wish I could go (and stay in this wonderful house) at least once a year! Even the books in the bookcase were a pleasure....I reread 3 favorites in my two-week stay!

“This is more than apartment for you to stay in - it's your new h”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2013

Our stay at the apartment was fantastic. We stayed in the apartment for 3 weeks, and used the space as a hub to explore the region. The home is perfectly located in Oaxaca City, with everything within walking distance - 1 block from Sanchez Pasqua market which has everything you could need to cook, a 5 minute walk from Santa Domingo and all of it's delights, and 10 minutes from the Zocalo. The home is beautiful with a well appointed kitchen that has everything you need to cook anything, and I do mean anything: we had no problem making a giant vat of mole. There are beautiful bedrooms and a fantastic rooftop terrace. We were excited about staying in the home based on the photos, but it turned out to be even better than we expected once we got there. Despite all of the features this apartment boasts, it's really the people that made this apartment such a lovely place to stay. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Lance, on our first day, and he was incredibly kind and welcoming (ask him about minimalist art - he loves it!) Donna set everything up for us ahead of time, and made sure we were connected with whomever we might need to meet with in the area. Silvia is a lovely day-to-day property manager, and Na'Um was kind and reliable driver who ended up taking us on several adventures in the region. The real gem of our experience was our time with Fernanda, the housekeeper, who took extra special care of us by bringing us to the market, giving us some cooking instruction, and in general acting like a Oaxacan auntie. I can't imagine any other place to stay in Oaxaca. This is more than apartment for you to stay in - it's your new home away from home.
