“A tranquil, picturesque setting with accommodation that met our”
The Wanies are the perfect hosts, greeting their visitors personally and taking a genuine interest in their wishes and hopes for their time in La Begude. The accommodations are comfortable and homey, with much care having been taken to include the little amenities that are often overlooked. The setting is gorgeous and convenient to many historic and charming towns and sites nearby. This is a one of a kind place...we plan to return many times, as it truly feels like a second home!
“Beyond all expectations.”
We stayed at La Begude de Mazenc after a short stop in Paris France. The city of Paris was nice but we are both country scenery people so it was a delightful breath of fresh air to arrive at Ulrike and andrews home. We had a warm welcome, the apartment we stayed at was centuries old but lovely inside. We were close to the mountains and we took a trip with Ulrike and andrew and some other guests to an old castle perched on the side of the mountain for a late afternoon toast. It was amazing and the photographic moments were unreal. We rented out a car so we could do some sightseeing and they suggested a few places to explore and the plague village ruins will definitely be a stop on our return trip (this year,2012) as well as the nearby city of Crest and Die. La Begude de Mazenc is close to so much, we ran out of time before we ran out of things to do. The hospitality and the warmth of the other guests who were also repeat visitors gave us a sense of the rapport that has been built with Ulrike and andrew. The main house is beautiful and if I could ship one thing home it would be that lovely kitchen table! :) The courtyards were beautiful and the views were stunning. It was such a lovely place to visit on our first time to France and we are staying there again on our second.
“Out of this world!!”
Jacquie and I have had the pleasure of staying with Ulrike and andrew on several occasions. On arrival, the culinary delights of the first nights Provencal meal are truly an unforgettable experience. Whenever we had a need to inquire of them where to go or what to take in their recommendations were first rate and addedd to our over all experience. Whether our desires were to visit wineries, ancient sites, markets or just plain sight seeing, we were never disappointed in the directions they steered us. If you get the opportunity ask Ulrike for directions to " the top of the world" over by Die. A must see! The ambience of all of their rentals is exactly as pictured. Every amenity is included and they both were more than gracious in offering anything else that we thought we might need. The ancient village is worth exploring over and over again. As well, the shops in La Begude de Mazenc are worth patronizing. We are looking forward to our next visit to France and rest assured we will again be staying with them. As a final note, take very little clothing and be sure to take advantage of the laundry room as often as you can. The refrigerator there is well stocked with the local Rose wines and even cold beer for your enjoyment. On each of our trips we we extremely saddened when on that final day we had to say our goodbyes and return home. We have recommended Ulrike and andrew to several friends and many have taken advantage of their hospitality and have not been disappointed.
“For a romantic spirit the place is gorgeous. Fantastic.”
We have stayed twice at the "Sunflower House" in La Begude de Mezanc and are looking forward to a third visit in the near future. The 'Medieval'location is fantastic and the accomodation is comfortable; a fine balance of 'rustic' decor and modern conveniences. Ulrike & Andrew are wonderful hosts, ready to answer every question whether about local markets or the best wineries nearby. The village is an easy 10 minutes walk from the 'castle,' and there are several potteries in the general area. The place is peaceful and the view is dream like in the late afternoon as you sit on the terrace with a glass or bottle of wine. Doing that you can almost believe that you are one of the many artists that came here to paint...
“Just go !”
La Magnanerie is truly a home away from home. Your Provencal home overlooks lavender fields, from centuries old stone walls, and the road in "votre petit village"climbs upward and ends at the ancient church. The owners of this historic part of the world where you will stay, help with suggestions and maps so you can tailor make your visit and fill it with wineries,Arles,Avignon, and the like. There are ruins to explore, Van Gogh's rooms to see,the Popes' Palace to wander, and walk along streets that invite a curious eye with every step. Everything is a short drive away. After tasting local honey, visiting the markets, and planning your next day, you can come home to put your feet up, relax with a glass of wine ( from one of the local vineyards, of course!), watch the sunset, enjoy your well appointed kitchen to have a bite, then snuggle under locally made quilts to dream the night away.Somehow, time stands still. We are already planning our return trip. Maybe this time, we come via Marseilles, instead of Paris...hhmmm. p.s. Your welcoming dinner on the day you arrive, gives you the opportunity to meet fellow travelers who are staying in different suites, and meet your hosts.Bon appetit.
“An enchanting step back in time in a stunning location!”
Nestled on the hillside in the tiny medevial village of Chateauneuf de Manzenc, this comfortable, beautifully appointed home offers a stunning view of the Rhone Valley below. The welcoming dinner offered by hostess and / or host provides the perfect opportunity to learn about the cuisine and history of Provence, a hint of fine wines to discover, the schedule of farmers' markets to follow throughout your stay and the local treasures not found in the tourist guides. While you enjoy the sunset from your private terrasse with a glass of newly discovered wine you will know it's only a matter of time until you return!
“The perfect holiday experience”
Everything was just wonderful - the home is beautifully renovated and decorated, the location is fabulous with an endless view of the valley, the owners are wonderful people and charming hosts, and nothing beats drinking delicious red wine while watching a perfect sunset every evening from the garden terrace. Each visit here is memorable, which is why we try to visit at least once a year!
The minute I arrived, I was welcomed with a home cooked feast in her beautiful traditional kitchen overlooking the countryside. My house was decorated in the provencal style, with great taste. Everything I needed was there. Ulricke was at all times available for any kind of questions or directions I needed. She introduced me to locals, which made my stay feel really authentic and enjoyable. It is close to a lot of interesting sites, just try to avoid certain times when the mistral has its say. Thank you. Elke
“it took only a short moment to feel in vaccation and at home”
