A lovely property in the French Countryside that epitomizes everything French. If you are looking for comfort, atmosphere and genial and generous hosts you will find none better than Chez-Georges. Conveniently located between Limoux and Mirepoix. Comfortably accommodated two couples - perfect for candlelight dinners/
“A perfect French country getaway”
Well, the weather could have been a bit warmer, but that was the only flaw in our recent stay at Chez Georges - and it was the last week of winter. The warmth of hosts JP and alix more than made up for chilly nights. Though not the least intrusive, they'd stop by every few days bearing fresh flowers or muffins, local wine or a tip about a local event. The cottage itself surpassed any vacation rental I have known, in its generous size and peaceful setting, beautiful stone walls and comfortable French country furnishings. The small kitchen was stocked with plenty of staples. The house was perfect for just relaxing and reading inside, warmed by the two fireplaces and the view of the 800-year-old church out the window. For our daily expeditions, we mostly stuck to the scenic little villages and hilltop castle ruins within an hour's drive. But one could equally use Chez Georges as a very comfortable base camp for exploring the highlights of southern France and northern Spain.
“Highly recommended, especially with kids”
We had excellent time at Chez Georges during our summer vacation of two weeks in august 2010. We enjoyed our time so much that we came again in august 2011 for one week and most likely will be back yet another time. The house was fantastic, charming, clean and very practical. Especially our kids appreciated a lot the lovely garden, which is also safe for small kids, and bicycling in the neighborhood. The owners were very welcoming and hospitable during our stays. They gave also great tips for visits and day trips. We loved the region and the house is well situated with respect to main sights, like Carcassonne, Mirepoix, Pyrenees, etc. The region offers lot to see and there still remains interesting sights we want to explore. There is also a nice mountain bike trail which goes through the village of Courtauly offering access to larger network of trails.
“Chez Georges : lovely people, lovely house, lovely place...”
We enjoyed so much our stay last summer (family with 2 children), that we can't go anywhere else this summer. Jp, Alix, mr B. are so kind, and make our stay unforgettable.
“Lovely rural gite”
We had a fantastic week at Chez-Georges. The gite is superbly appointed and equipped, and the garden is lovely with space for the kids, shade for dozing and a terrace and barbeque. Jp and alix were incredibly helpful and friendly with advice on all manner of places, foods and wines! The surrounding countryside is very peaceful but we found canoing, swimming and of course Carcassonne to keep us busy. Highly recommended.
“A secret hideaway”
Amazing hosts JP and alix, warm friendly hospitality that went above and beyond our expectations.Generous accommodations and privacy, ultimate comfort, beautiful aspect in garden, easy to get to interesting local Villages/Markets/Restaurants and Carcasonne not far away. Played croquette one evening in the garden whilst enjoying some fine local wines provided by our wonderful hosts. If your seeking elegance, comfort and a real break from the rigors of travel and city life, this is a must do in your journey through the south western part of France.Above all, we will return...
We liked it so much when we stayed in October 2010, we re-visited in June 2011. Jp and alix are excellent hosts. They are just a few doors along and always ready with helpful advice if you need it. The property is 35 minutes from Carcassonne airport. With detailed driving directions it was very easy to find. Courtauly is a lovely little village with only 50 inhabitants. The house is as beautiful as it appears in the photographs. The large garden is an added bonus. We slept extremely well in very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are well appointed and the showers are powerful. There are no shops in the village itself but there are supermarkets in nearby towns Mirepoix and Limoux. There's lots to see and do in the area, from pottering at the various markets to exploring rich Cathar history. Or just relax in the garden and read a book while you catch some sun. Chez Georges offers a home away from home. I wonder when we can get back for another visit?
“Chez Georges...tres gorgeous!”
Courtauly is the French countryside at it's local and unspoiled best. A tiny village surrounded by rolling hills and fields of lavender and sunflowers. Donkeys at the crossroads and chickens in the neighboring garden who are happy to enjoy the organic snips and peels leftover from your market fresh produce. No traffic, no crowds. Just the clank of distant cowbells and the hourly tolling of the church bell...don't worry not too early! There is nothing to do here but soak up the sun and cycle, hike or trundle from ancient village to winery to marketplace. Your daily routines are best planned around where to tour, eat and shop by day and evenings with your own wine, your own wood burning fire and your own attempts at French cuisine in the Chez Georges kitchen. Local hosts alix and JP (the locals call him Jean Paul) are fun loving Canadians who live two doors down from the delightful Chez George, a remodeled barn with loads of local history. Need directions, a winery recommendation, or the local gossip on the best spinach greens ...just knock on their door. A warm welcome and a fridge stocked with breakfast fixings and local bubbly (aka ...blanquette ) is just the beginning. The suite is beautifully appointed, charmingly rustic and lacks for nothing in the kitchen, bath or bedrooms. Slide open the floor to ceiling windows and enjoy your morning coffee in the privacy of your second floor salon. Then as the day heats up, move downstairs and into the garden shared with the retired village mayor who grows strawberries, tomatoes and bushels of veg in the plot next door. French country heaven and if you see the mayor, make sure you give Mssr B a bisous from me!
