Welcome to Silver Street Studio Retreat. As a summer or winter retreat, the award winning Silver Street Studio and residence is a very special place. This spacious, private, hideaway is a two story, stand alone building hidden behind high limestone walls. It is close to the culinary hub of South Fremantle yet quiet, very secluded, and has an ambience which is hard to beat. This charming space is the perfect place in which to relax, to escape the pressures of contemporary living whilst being in instant reach of all facilities, the sea, and everything Fremantle has on offer.
On arrival we give you a bottle of fine Vasse Felix, Western Australian, wine, local chocolates, flowers, plus a breakfast hamper for your first morning. This holds fruit, local jam, WA roasted coffee beans, gourmet teas and freshly baked bread from our local Swiss bakery at the end of the street.
The Studio is the perfect place in which to relax, and escape the pressures of contemporary living. The space is very private whilst being within instant reach of South Fremantle's culinary hub, wonderful local facilities and everything Fremantle' has to offer.
Originally built to house artists’ studios and a gallery, 'Silver Street' has now been thoughtfully converted into a wonderfully creative, comfortable and eclectic residence. Constructed from large local limestone blocks rescued from a former Fremantle church, magnificent one hundred year old timbers from Rob's Jetty (South Fremantle) and other fascinating items of memorabilia including a turret from the old Swanbourne Hospital. The building speaks to local history, contemporary art and old world charm.
On arrival our guests enter the property through a small wooden door within a 'medieval' gate. Ivy trails over high limestone walls which seclude a lush courtyard garden. In summer, this area is shaded by a plane tree, a poinciana, an olive tree, a weeping mulberry, and a grape vine. This is an ideal setting for a private breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or a romantic evening BBQ.
Huge glass sliding doors connect this leafy outdoor area to the downstairs living space which is open-plan, has a well equipped kitchen, a dining area and comfortable lounge. Rugs, furnishings, and the character of the architecture create a beautiful ambience.
The upper studio level, originally used for producing ceramics, is now reached internally via a stylish industrial staircase. The bedroom has a very comfortable queen size bed, supplied with best quality bedding and soft linen sheets. A small mezzanine connects this area to the bathroom /dressing room. This large upstairs room opens onto the north facing balcony, the perfect spot for a sumptuous bath under the stars!
The former kiln room, to the left of the balcony is now a peaceful reading/meditation room - and is occasionally used as a spare bedroom.
The downstairs utility room, opposite the downstairs toilet, houses our two bicycles are available for our guests to enjoy when exploring Fremantle and the coastal heathlands.
The Studio is not a suitable space for active toddlers, children, the frail or the very elderly but it is a truly rewarding place for the adventurer, the romantic and those with creative spirit!
COVID cleaning and requirements: Since the onset of COVID, we have been taking a minimum stay of 4 night stays and have decided to close for 2 days either side of each booking in order to carry out the required deep clean. Thank you for your understanding.
