“Worth the stay”

Reviewed 26 Feb 2014

2 families just returned from a 10 day stay at Villa azomalli in Huatulco, and we couldn't be happier. The Villa is the best of both worlds. A perfect blend of all-inclusive and private condo rental. If you like to have space, freedom and privacy, Villa azomalli is great. If you love the total holiday feeling of not having to cook and make beds, again, Villa azomalli is perfect. Virtually everywhere you would want to go is a 500 peso cab ride away, and the beach is easily accessed by a 5 minute walk. the walk home is longer because it is up hill, so, if you have mobility issues, or very small children, the walk back could be a challenge. Having a pool at the villa was heaven, and often got used until late into the night. The beds are like many Mexican beds, they were rather hard; but, we were usually so exhausted at the end of the day, it didn't really matter The views are breathtaking, and aracelli, and Majra and fantastic, and made our stay that much more enjoyable. Aracelli's cooking is fantastic, and we looked forward to every meal. If you are hoping to golf, double check that the golf course is open, and the prices aren't crazy high--we were unable to golf this time because of work being done on the course, and a ridiculously high price if you chose to golf anyhow. We even had a chance to meet Tony, and thank him for the opportunity to stay. The very few cons are overwhelmingly outweighed by the pros, and we certainly recommend this villa, especially if you have a larger group.

Response from the owner It's always a pleasure to get to meet our guests. Thank you for the kind words and very nice to have met everyone. The mattresses in the master suites are brand new high end mattresses from the upscale Liverpool Store in Salina Cruz. They might be a little too firm (since there brand new )for some people's liking but others love them. The old mattresses were as soft as a cloud and some considered them too soft, thus the new mattresses. The walk up from the beach is steep ( see video on website of beach club tour < >. I personally jog 8-14 laps when I'm in Huatulco, but I'm a little excessive with cardio workouts ( thus the different appearance in two videos. It's a paved road up to the villa from the beach and the distance allows for the majestic view of the Pacific Ocean in front and the Sierra Madre Mountains in back. Still we will make arrangements with the beach club to transport our guests back to the villa when the situation warrants it, or treat to a taxi up the hill. Respectfully, Tony.

Friends, who stayed in Villa azomalli before, had finally convinced me to visit "The hotel without walls" in august of 2013. On a leap of faith, I went to Huatulco, Mexico and stayed in Villa azomalli, praying that this "Hotel without walls" did not resemble a tent. And my interpretation of my friends' descriptions could not be more inaccurate. However, my skepticism remained even when landing in Huatulco. My plane touched down in a small airport, and I was greeted by a personal driver for me and my party, who was ready to depart to Villa azomalli right when I walked out of Customs. Driving through the mountains was exhilarating and breathtaking. The taxi driver, as many natives to the area, spoke English very well, so we had a nice conversation about the lifestyle of the people who live in Huatulco. When arriving at the Villa, I realized that no description of its beauty could be accurate. The "Hotel without walls" turned out to be a private, four room villa with a view straight over the Pacific. The first thing I did was jump in the private pool, and I was greeting by the kind, helpful staff. Cheli, the chef, also spoke exceptional English. Although there are good restaurants in Huatulco, nothing can compare to her cooking. Every meal she made was prepared with fresh ingredients. After each meal, I said "Nothing can top this". However, day after day, Cheli managed to make a meal that exceeded expectations. Not only did Cheli cook, but she used her seemingly limitless connections in the area to arrange daily activities. If I wanted to go fishing, she made a quick call and it was arranged. To go to the town, all I had to do is ask Cheli to call a cab. Cheli's kindness, skill as a chef, and adaptability made a stay at the perfect villa twice as enjoyable. My thanks to Tony for letting me stay at his Villa, and many thanks to the exceptional staff at Villa azomali.

We arrived at the airport and our transportation was waiting for us, no having to get a taxi.On the drive to the Villa our driver gave us history about Huatulco which was very informative. We arrived at the Villa no having to wait for check in which was great after taking a red eye and being up all night. The staff was on hand to greet us and gave us a tour of the Villa. What a beautiful view from every room and the pool. The back yard where our delicious breakfast was served every morning had a spectacular view of two of the bays, but the yard itself had such tranquility. Araceli, Mayra and Luis were on hand if we needed anything but yet their prensence was not noticible. Taxis were called when needed and in less than five minutes they were there, we were so close to town and all the beaches. We would go for walks in the morning and evenings and we always felt so safe. The meals were so good, the house and pool were always kept so clean. We all had such a great time and can hardly wait to go back again.
