“A slice of heaven!”
I have been renting Casa archi at Maridiana alpaca for many years and I has consistently been a fabulous experience. I love everything about Maridiana, the house, the view, the Berna's and of course the alpacas. The house is always very clean and in great working order. The Berna's provide lots of great advice the surrounding area, festivals, new restaurants and local markets. What a gem!
“Wondrous place and time”
Maridiana is wondrous, with a forested backdrop overlooking Umbria's pastures and fields. Four Californians soaked up culture, especially food and wine, for an autumn week. Uncongested and slow-paced, outside of assisi and Perugia, we effortlessly explored the villages and hill-towns with our host's good advise. Casale is spacious and comfortable, although the beds are a bit firm. The stairway demands focus, and head-dipping; the upper road is best avoided without a high clearance vehicle. But the house reflects its history, and I would return unreservedly -- especially to sit on the lawn at sunset with a glass of sangiovese while wandering alpacas nibble the grass.
“Spacious accommodation and garden on the side of a valley with w”
The old stone buildings have been made into spacious, uncluttered comfortable rooms with great character. We were very well looked after by Gianni and Marisa who live on the farm and run Maridiana alpaca, a lama farm producing alpaca wool. They could not have been more friendly and helpful. The living spaces and bedrooms are large and cool and the kitchen well equipped. We could enjoy our meals outside, overlooking the valley which was full of interest and continually changing from early morning haze and mist to bright morning and evening sunlight. The location was peaceful and the farm activity and grazing animals in the fields below us took away any feeling of isolation. There was an opportunity to buy some fine alpaca garments in the small showroom connected to the farm. Maridiana is a good base to explore the countryside which has wonderful views, interesting towns and villages nearby, good local restaurants and shops in nearby Umbertide.
“Gorgeous scenery, open spaces, authentic setting, charming house”
Maridiana was the perfect place for our mixed generation family vacation---children parents and grandparents. The older ones enjoyed the house tastefully furnished with antiques but containing all the modern amenities, the lovely unspoiled setting, remote, yet only 10 minutes drive from a town (Umbertide) with all the conveniences. The children loved helping out with the alpaca herding, feeding the chickens, playing ball in the wide open spaces. And whenever we felt like touring or eating out there were incredibly sites and picturesque towns and markets a short drive away. The only problem we encountered was insects because after all, it is a working farm.
“Posto tranquillo, riservato, gli alpaca danno un grande senso d”
Un posto isolato e tranquillo, lontano dal caos, con la presenza di questi animali buffi e buonissimi quali sono gli alpaca
“a great week”
the apartment was more than i could have hoped for and the family was very hospitable and caring to our needs. very centrally located to major cities and a wonderful atmosphere to relax and rest. looking forward to a visit again in the near future
“Oh! To be in Umbria.”
Maridiana is my Enchanted april! When I open the shutters in the morning I have a view of a majestic valley below and in the other direction are the distant apennines sometimes with snow on the peaks. You could not ask for a better place to vacation. The house is a stone farmhouse with all modern amenities. The rooms are tastefully decorated and you feel as if this is 'your home away from home'. This is a great spot to be for touring. You can spend a day in such places as assisi, Perugia, Siena, Cortona or Florence and come back for a relaxing evening. The hosts Gianni and Marisa Berna were always helpful with suggestions of interesting places to visit and made my stay most memorable.
“Can we move in???”
Do you mind if we move in?? "Thank you" seems inadequate to express our appreciation for the wonderful experience Gianni and his whole family provided for us! We stayed with our four young-ish (11, 8, 6 and 4) on the alpaca farm with Gianni and his wonderful family Oct 2010, and we are so anxious to return! The accomodations are comfortable yet elegant...the animals are entirely charming and interesting to experience...and the entire area of Umbria was our favorite. We were in Italy for 3 weeks and traveled through Umbria, Tuscany, Rome and Naples/Sorrento...our week at Casa archi in Umbria was hands-down the best part of the trip. The towns of Umbertide, Assisi, Gubbio (a must!), Purgia, Cortona are so close and amazing. Gianni provided rich, spontaneous history lessons and interesting information about the region and the country. Our youngest daughter celebrated her 4th birthday while we were there, and the entire family joined us to sing and celebrate...a real treat! If you are considering staying, look no further...you will be so thrilled with the decision. The Casa archi is clean and beautiful...Gianni and his family are warm, friendly, amazingly helpful, interesting...the process of setting up our stay was flawless and Federico (Gianni's son) answered all of our questions promptly and fully...Umbria is beautiful and somewhat undiscovered so not as crowded... We are anxious to return...thank you Gianni and Federico and families for many precious experience and memories! Our kids are begging to return to the 'alpaca farm'! -andy, jenny and kids colorado, usa
“Very friendly owners, beautiful area, fascinating alpaca farm”
I and my family have been coming to Casa archi at Maridiana most years since 1996.The Berna family are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Casa archi is an attractive conversion of a traditional farm building, fully modernised and furnished in a style in keeping with the house, on a lovely hillside site in the Niccone Valley, with many beautiful towns and villages within easy reach. Umbertide has newly opened indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Lake Trasimeno is nearby. Two special features: the Berna family run an alpaca farm so although very peaceful you are in an interesting working environment. Marisa Berna organises a fascinating film festival each summer in nearby Montone. Date of most recent stay below.
“The ultimate Italian vacation esperience awaits you here.”
We have stayed here on seven occasions since 1999. The property is well maintained and is centrally located for day trips to hill towns in Umbria and Tuscanny. The owners are incredibly warm, friendly and make the stay a wonderful vacation. This is truely a piece of heaven on earth.
