“Portofinio so beautiful view ...but so pricey.”
One could not hope for a better view of Portofino than from the windows of Casa Zina. The first floor flat is airy and ideal for two people. One of the two 'front' doors opens directly onto the port below with its bustling restaurants and view of the fishing boats bobbing on the clear water of the bay three floors below. The other 'front' door opens from the level onto the road back to Santa Marguerita. The decor in the apartment is unusual: a strange mix of ornate antique Italianate style alongside some modernistic additions such as a white leather sofa as well as contemporary wall art. The focus of the room in one direction is the bay ...and, then, in the other a nineteenth century 'throne' of a double bed ( but with comfortable modern mattress!). The kitchen and bathroom are adequate ...both sparkling clean. The whole place is spotless. However, there is a downside: parking! Do not expect to be able to park nearby, or even in Portofino centre. Even stopping on the road outside the front door is a hazard. And don't even think of bringing a larger size car! The roads to Portofino are narrow and windy. We had to park, at great inconvenience (and expense) in a nearby village car park and then walk, or take a taxi, boat, or bus back into Portofino. Not ideal for day trips out! This, I feel, could have been fore-mentioned by the owners and not presented as an unexpected additional problem after a very long and tiring drive. But once in Portofino, there are many chic restaurants and bars. As long as you can walk there are plenty of activities in the village and wonderful vistas to sit and admire. Take the boat to San Fruttuoso. There, by-pass the tower and abbey and stroll a few minutes to a much less crowded bay with a beach cafe.
“Centro di Portofino”
Ottima posizione, bellissima vista, gentilissimi proprietari, spaziosa, e se torniamo a Portofino la prenoterei di nuovo!!
We stayed 3 nights at the property in June this year. It is perfectly positioned to the harbour and restaurants of Portofino. Although there is no balcony, the view from the windows is amazing overlooking the visiting super yachts and the main harbour town. Chantal was lovely and assisted us with great advice for our stay including suggesting a memorable lunch at "Puny". There is a mile of room to stretch out and be comfortable in the house. It is a very clean old building but it has most of the modern comforts you will need including wifi. Be aware that the stairs up from the main harbour are steep and daunting and would not suit unfit people or people who are not stable on their feet. You can however, access the top floor of the house from the rear and take the back lanes into town without too much effort and without having to negotiate the harbour side stairs. We rented the whole house (3 of us) which was overkill (but very private). I am not sure how the configuration works if you only take one level...but you would want the level with the view. The roof terrace was not used as it has no view.
“Large apartment overlooking the spectacular port - perfect location!”
We loved the apartment for our family of 6 visiting one week in June. It is a duplex offering high views of the harbor. Entry is directly from the harbor door up 2 flights of stairs or directly in from the street behind the harbor. It was very reasonably priced and much better for our family than the harbor hotels. Perfect location, views, 4 bedrooms (if you use the sleeper sofa bed), large living rooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. We loved our stay in this apartment and will return many times in the future!
“Gracious Hosts and Portofino at Your Doorstep; It Doesn't Get Any Better”
Your hosts Chantal and Serena are some of the nicest people you will ever encounter. They also own a beautiful gem in the middle of it all in Portofino. Do your self a favor and reserve this wonderful apartment in the heart of one of the most beautiful villages in the world. We are frequent travelers to Italy (2 to 4 visits per year) and have traveled to Portofino on a number of previous occasions. In the past we have stayed at a very well known hotel in the village. However, over Easter vacation this year we were traveling with our young son and didn't think a luxury hotel was a great environment, nor a very good value for a family vacation. We looked at other options and Casa Zina seemed to be the best fit. We could not have imagined how good! Casa Zina has one of the best locations of any lodging, at any price, available in Portofino. It is right on the Calata Marconi directly on the gorgeous bay that is center of everything in the village. You will be tempted to simply stare out the window at the incomparable beauty of the place. Walk out either your front or back door and you are everywhere you want to be . . . out the backdoor and up the path to the Hotel Splendido or a long walk to Santa Margherita di Ligure. Out your front door and pick from the great restaurants, shops, cafes, and wine bars. By Portofino's standards Casa Zina is a large accommodation when you rent both floors. There were only three of us, and three more would have been just as comfortable. The decor is a mix of traditional and contemporary. The apartment has interesting architecture and everything you need for a comfortable short or extended stay. The beds were firm and comfortable. The temperature was easy to adjust and we were comfortable even when is was chilly outside. Water pressure in the showers was good. Hot water was plentiful. Anyone who has rented vacation homes in Italy knows these things are not to be taken for granted. The star attraction of Casa Zina are the lovely sisters who own this home. Communication was outstanding. Chantal and Serena were very responsive and easily available via email or telephone. They went the extra mile for us when we made a special request. We wanted child care for our son for 5 nights during our trip. They wanted to make sure we got the best care possible, so one of the sisters (Serena) agreed to watch our son. What is most remarkable is that she traveled all the way from Genoa each time to do so! Honestly, we have never met nicer and more hospital people anywhere in the world. Portofino is a very special place. Casa Zina strikes just the right chord for couples or families who want to explore the area from the best location. Thank you Chantal and Serena for sharing your lovely home with us. We will absolutely visit again! Ciao auguri, J, K, and JJ Lake Bluff, Illinois, USA
“Three friends, 2 weeks in Portofino”
Casa Zina was just what I expected it to be. The location is fantastic. The apartment was clean, the beds comfortable and Serena is very gracious. She allowed us to use the washing machine even though we did not rent the top floor. We were very thankful for that kindness. We had no problem with the three flight walk up from the harbor entrance or the street entrance, which is also on a steep incline from the harbor. However, I can see how this could be a problem for anyone with physical concerns. There appeared to be a chair lift to the second floor but I'm not sure it was operational. There is an air conditioner in the living room and I'm not sure if it is also a heater. If not, this apartment would not be good off season as I did not see any other heaters in the apartment. And this one unit would not be sufficient to heat the entire apartment. I have rented other apartments in Italy and all have had cooking basics supplied - olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, coffee, tea, milk, bottled water. I would like to suggest that they be included in this apartment.
“Great place to stay in Portofino!”
Enjoyed very much our family stay in at Casa Zina in beautiful Portofino. The apartment was very spacious, clean, fully provisioned with all amenities and most importantly in a most fantastic and central location, right in the middle of the Portofino main port and square, next to all restaurants and ferry landing. The view onto the port was absolutely stunning and we have spent a fair amount of time by the window just observing the beautiful yachts and ships sailing in and out of Portofino. Would highly recommend the apartment and welcomed reception and arrangements by its owners.
“Lovely and Perfectly Located!”
Casa Zina is perfectly located on the inner harbor of Portofino. You could not be better located within this lovely resort town. The views of the harbor from the front windows are spectacular. We were greeted at the door, given keys, and shown the lovely house. We rented both levels. You can come in through the harbor area (and walk up the stairs two levels) or from the road above. If you come in from the road, there is a lovely entryway, and the well appointed kitchen is on the right. We did not eat in much, but from looking around everything you might want is there! Down the hallway to the front of the house there is another bedroom on the right with two single beds. Then, you enter the magnificent living room. There is a large beautiful sectional couch, dining table, and windows out to the harbor - a stunning view. Off of the living room is an alcove bedroom (separated by a curtain) with a large bed. Upstairs is another living room, steps up to the terrace (which is on the back of the house), and another bedroom with a large bed. There are full bathrooms on both floors. The linens were spotless, and the beds comfortable. There are even extra blankets in the closet for cool nights. Bath towels were plentiful. You literally walk out the front door and you are in the heart of Portofino. Waterfront bars, shops and restaurants are steps away, and small grocery less than a 5 minute walk. We walked easily (in heels!) up to the hill to the Splendid for dinner (10-15 minutes), and the public beach is maybe a 5 minute walk from the upper door. When it was time to leave, we were again met at the house in a timely fashion and our deposit was returned without question. The house is clean, beautiful, and you really feel as though you are part of the town. When we return, I will definitely be staying at Casa Zina again. One caution: this is not a house for those with severe disabilities, there are steps in and out - especially from the harbor.
It was very easy to arrange pick up of the keys. The house is very beautiful, nicely furnished. The location could not have been more perfect, right on the water with restaurants all around. If you want to walk out of the house on the water side there are about 50 or so stairs to climb down ( I think there is a mechanical stair lift but we never tried it). The front door is easier if you find stairs difficult. Although the house does not have wifi most of the restaurants have free access. We are already looking forward to our next stay here!
