“Excellent location, helpful and friendly staff making a relaxed,”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2014

We have just returned from a weeks stay at hikka villa. I would just like to say what a wonderful time our whole party had. All the hikkavilla staff were outstanding and really made our holiday special - chat was a fantastic host and couldn't do enough for us, making us feel welcome, organising trips and tuk tuks making our holiday fun and relaxed, he was so good with our 2 toddlers and even took care of our babies while we enjoyed lunch durning one excursion. Lal the chef cooked wonderful food ( an eh lush fry up and fresh fruits every morning at our request was a fantastic way to start our day!) he also kept the kitchen area clean and tidy. We felt extremely safe with the driver at all times who collected us from the airport and drove us to all our excursions and who was also fantastic with our children. The villa was kept clean and even though we were there only six nights a team came in to change towels, bed sheets and give a general clean. The swimming pool was perfect temperature with a babies pool all kept clean. I would highly reccomemded this property for families with young children and the team supporting the villa really made this holiday the best we have ever had and we are already looking to book again for later this year!!!

Response from the owner Many Thanks for your comments and appreciations.

“We loved every minute!”

We booked Hikka villa for 1 week for 4 adults and a 1 year old baby. The owners were extremely accommodating, especially for our daughter. We had Low the cook with us for the week, he made breakfast for us every day and also cooked us some fabulous Sri-lankan meals in the evening. Chat the tour guide was very helpful and friendly, he checked in with us everyday to see what we would like to do. On our first day of arrival chat picked us up from the airport and took us to the villa, all hassle free. He then collected us later on in the day to show us around the town which was very helpful to us. I would recommend Hikka villa highly!!!

Response from the owner Dear Becky, Many Thanks for your feedback. Regards Prasad

“location, location...perfect, perfect!”

All our experiences were fantastic, which we couldnt have enjoyed without chat and his back-up crew, all of whom were great when chat was unavailable! The team was complete with lal and his cooking which was also fantastic, brilliant food and so good with all our tastes including the childrens needs. Beautiful house, lovely big rooms, with everything you need for a great holiday, lovely pool and amenities. Walking distance to the beach and shops. Had a fantastic time and highly recommended! Really well looked after on check out where we were put up in a great beach house for the day until our evening flight, so accommodating at all times.

Response from the owner Dear Nicola, Thanks a lot for your feedback. Regards Prasad

“Relaxing, comfortable, felt like home”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2013

We are a family of 6 and spent 14 nights in Hikkavilla. We were picked up at Colombo airport up by "Chat" a very friendly and knowledgeable guide who very quickly became our children's favourite person and a good friend to us!! The drive was very comfortable and quick in his a/c van on the new hwy. After checking in we met "Lal" our cook and housekeeper for the stay. Lal is a very good cook and made trad Sri Lankan dishes & Western dishes. Lal is a very quiet man who liked to please us and listened and watched what we liked. He made us packed lunches for a day trips. Chat our guide took us on some amazing day trips. Chat is very honest and explains everything about costs up front. Chat would pop in to the villa most days to make sure we were ok. Chat has become a great friend to us. Our stay at Hikkavilla was made even better by being able to swim and relax in the private pool everyday. The gardens and pool are well maintained and are an asset to the villa. The Villa is situated in a very lovely part of Hikkaduwa. It is quiet with lovely green surrounds and friendly local neighbours. It is easy to walk to most parts of Hikkaduwa from the villa otherwise it is very cheap and easy to get a Tuk Tuk driver to take you to town or further. We have no hesitation in recommending Hikkavilla to families or groups that want to stay in Hikkaduwa. Chanaker, the owner is a very friendly and honest person who provides a gorgeous villa and staff to look after you.

Response from the owner Dear Justen, Many Thanks for sharing your experience and feedback. Looking forward to see you again at Hikkavilla. Regards Prasad

“Excellent!”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2013

Excellent! I am always a bit suspicious of overwhelmingly positive reviews about places but have to say that my family's holiday at Hikka Villa was superb. The people: Lal (chef and house keeper) Chat (local rep) and others have all been friendly, knowledgeable and helpful (without being at all intrusive or pushy) Lal is an excellent chef, we demanded that all our food be Srilankan food and had superb fresh food everyday. Chat is a great organizer and seemed able to arrange bespoke day trips and longer tours of the island with almost no notice at all. The house: the house is perfect for us, spacious, clean, and lots of cute touches and details to keep the kids and the rest of us amused. The kitchen is massive with breakfast bar, there is separate dining area and then more space upstairs. There are only a few signs of wear and tear which are easily resolved eg rinse sun loungers, replace one or two light-bulbs. The surrounding area: the local area is just charming, with a narrow lane overhung by palms and tropical grasses, rustic homes and tiny general store which sells anything you need in an emergency. People nearby are friendly and helpful, most people say hello as you stroll along. As you get closer to the beach things appear a bit more dusty and busy, do not worry about this as the beaches are amazing. We arrived during monsoon so no snorkeling, however plenty of body surfing and boogie boarding for the kids at the three most local beaches. 1st choice was Chaya beach, feed turtles relax. 2nd choice was top secret beach, best sun loungers and more interest for surfer dudes and shoppers. 3rd best was coral sands beach its closest, and guaranteed safe swim, coral is very close by but as it was monsoon we were not able to see much. All beaches accessible by tuk tuk which is by far the best way to travel : )

Response from the owner Many Thanks for your feedback. Regards. Prasad

“lovely villa, few teething problems but I am sure they will be s”

Reviewed 30 May 2013

As mentioned in other reviews, the photos do not do the property justice - it was incredible, there's even a gym and a koi carp pond in the living room!!! Chanaka met us on arrival and gave us a tour, the place is absolutely huge. I would love to come back with more than 3 people because it is the perfect group holiday home. We had loads of fun in the pool and exploring Hikkaduwwa. We went out of season in May and so the price was incredible - amazing value for money compared to if we had a similar villa in Europe. We really enjoyed our stay - there were a few teething problems with the villa as the bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms were newly refurbished, but I am sure these will be sorted soon. There are lots of people on hand to help you out if you need anything. Thanks very much, really enjoyed our stay!

Response from the owner Dear Guest, Many thanks for your feedback. Regards Prasad

“Outstanding”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2013

The service provided was excellent. The photo's on the website do not give justice to the villa itself there was certainly a 'wow' factor upon walking in. A special mention must be given to Lal, he couldn't have been more helpful and was an absolute gem, everyone should have a Lal.The location was initially difficult to find but was only a short walk from the beach. Tuk Tuk's were eassily available to get you around. Being ultra critical the upstairs off suite bathroom could do with an update.

Response from the owner Many thanks for your lovely feedback.

“Know what you are getting”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2013

My wife and I stayed at Hikka Villa for 5 days in Jan/Feb this year. The villa has some good and bad points. The good: - The pool is not overlooked, so it was great for my wife (a Muslim) to sunbathe in private - The jacuzzi is a nice although its only a few bubble jets on the side of the pool - we dont have kids but the paddling pool would have been great if we did The bad: - The villa is open to the elements, as the ceiling in the living room is partially open. This means insects and small animals can get in. The resident bunny was able to get in and out freely. I woke up one night with a frog on my pillow! - The villa is pretty basic. The beds were not made up as the photos suggest on this site. - Satellite TV did not work whilst we were there. We informed Chat and Chanika but unfortunately it was not fixed. As a goodwill gesture, they did not charged us for electricity in return. Chat took good care of us, and we took the opportunity to visit Yala and Kandy, as well as go whale watching. Overall, I'd recommed this villa for a large group who want a basic place to stay. I wouldn't recommend it if you are after a luxury place.

Response from the owner Dear Guest, Many thanks for your feedback. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience you may have been caused. Late 2012, we have added an extra area to sitting hall as an indoor garden to ensure fresh air circulation is well maintained within large sitting hall of this villa. Chanaka and I have made a note from your feedback that we need to cover this indoor garden through a net to ensure no single insect can enter to villa. This will be 100% completed before 15th May 2013. Satellite TV channels was working but this was not clearly explained how to operate (Power connection to receiver) at the time of check in. We have added this point to our initial show around check list for all new guests check-ins from now on. Due to high demand we we not able to get this villa free for our annual maintainance since past 8 months. At present we have started colour washing and furniture upgrade all the bedrooms which should be completed within next couple of weeks. Regards Prasad

“4 Brits and a Yank!!!”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2013

The photographs do not do this place justice. Our stay was excellent and made even better by Lal and Chat who did everything they could to ensure our stay was memorable.Location is good being only a 200 rupee tuk tuk to centre of Hikkaduwa although it is possible to walk . The pool is clean and we used it every morning before going to the beach. Recommend letting Lal prepare a local meal-just give him the money and he will purchase fresh produce and make a wonderful meal. Overall a most enjoyable stay.

Response from the owner Thanks for your feedback.

“A relaxing and chilled holiday in a great location”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2013

An excellent villa, large enough for several families. The owner continually making improvements for the benefit of guests. We have stayed there twice. Close to beaches and restaurants if you want to leave the villa. We were looked after superbly by Chat and Lal, who showed us the best places to visit and prepared and cooked fantastic food. We'll go back, definitely.

Response from the owner Many thanks. Looking forward to see you again.
