“Peace and tranquility in abundance”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

We have just returned from a delightful stay in this lovely cottage. All that has been said about Karen and Craig and the cottage is true and it is an ideal place to recharge the batteries and in a perfect location for visits to the many Chateaux in the area.

Response from the owner And, we were so happy to see these guests leave looking refreshed and ready for the upcoming summer! If you are feel like a quiet (or take in all of the chateaux and wineries you wish!)place to read, swim--in our heated saltwater pool--and have a heavenly nights sleep: La Barauderie" is certainly the place to stay. Thanks again for yours, Karen & Craig

“All you could wish”

Reviewed 18 May 2014

This was our most recent visit after half a dozen others extending back to1992, when we lived in Munich. The Havre cottage accommodations have only improved over the years, and the new panel heating is a blessing in the sometimes chilly "shoulder" season that we favor. You arrive to a kitchen stocked with provisions with the makings for the next morning's breakfast. We enjoy shopping at the crowded but congenial Sunday market along the banks of the Cher at Amboise. And the kitchen corner is sufficient to enjoy your own meals either inside or out on the graveled patio with the meadow and woods beyond. As our hosts point out you can now take a train directly from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the TGV station outside Tours, pick up a rental car right there and be "at home" in about 45 minutes. We never tire of the Loire and, for a couple, the Havre cottage makes a perfect base as well as a destination in itself. And Karen and Craig are pleasant and helpful hosts.x

Response from the owner We always look forward to Joan and Bruce's visits, because after all of these years, we feel like we are welcoming old friends "home". Each year we do something new to the cottage to improve our returning and new visitor's stays. This year they are new a mattress and pillows. I guess it works..... Hoping the next visit is sooner rather than later! Karen & Craig.

“A French Fairytale Getaway!”

If you are looking for a beautiful, warm, charming, cozy, rustic, centrally located, countryside setting for a rejuvenating vacation; then this is the place. If you are looking for a personal touch, where you have privacy as well as a caring, well informed and articulate concierge; then Karen Kenady is that person! We stayed here for our honeymoon and had the time of our lives! We were greeted each morning by the beautiful deer and hawks of the forest as we had our coffee and breakfast. The cottage is perfect! A full kitchen with everything you need, a stereo for music, an unbelievably comfortable bed, a large wonderful bathroom with terrific robes! A great touch! Seriously, I could go on and on! The location is also perfect to easily get to all of the chateauxs and sites of the Loire Valley. Karen effortlessly directed us to everything we wanted to see and more. I couldn't recommend this little piece of heaven more, other than to say it is my sincere hope that my wife and I are able to return. It was with tears in my eyes that I left their wonderful home, and we were going to Paris after our stay. I loved Paris, but this cottage and it's owners is what sticks in my memory!

Response from the owner Our "personal touch" seems to be: think of where we want to stay and then stay out-of-the-way until approached. When we go on vacation, we like to left to our own "devices" unless we need something or someone, so that's what we do here. We let our guests know that we are always available, but also that the cottage is theirs. Much more comfortable and homey that way, we think. And, we live the fairy tale, by living here all year 'round!

“wish this was our house!”

First of all, sorry Karen and Craig for not writing this review months ago! Even though our GPS tried to take us down roads that were not roads, we finally found our way to this simple, beautiful and wonderfully secluded cottage. Craig showed us to our very spacious room with a wonderful bathroom (big shower:)) and a fantastic seating area out back with our own grill. the room was stocked with great maps of the area and Craig and Karen were full of wonderful options of things to do and places to see in the surrounding towns. We bought all of our groceries in Montrichard and loved grilling in the back yard and cooking in the small kitchen in the cottage. Although we picked a rainy time to come (and couldn't really use the pool)everything was fantastic: from the bird watching, to local farmers markets, and to buying fresh eggs from the farmer across the street. We would gladly give up everything we have to spend our lives in such a beautiful place and it would be even better if we had such great neighboors as Karen and Craig. we had an absolutely fantastic time at the cottage and we can not wait to come back again

“Relaxing stay in the Loire Valley”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2012

The two of us stayed here for three nights in June...would have liked to have stayed a whole lot longer! This property is situated in a beautiful spot, on the edge of a quiet, yet spectacular forest. Facilities are great (including swimming pool!) as are hosts Karen and Craig who gave us lots of great tips and were delightfully friendly. Loved the special touches including bottle of delicious Rose waiting for us in the fridge when we arrived. A great spot to base yourself exploring the Loire Valley.

Response from the owner And that Rose wine is still waiting (a fresh bottle, natch!) for those who wish to come and enjoy this little part of "paradise"...... Big sky. Quiet days. And chateaux that are waiting to be visited--or not. They'll still be here, if you just decide to go to a farmers' market, buy, eat, enjoy and take a snooze. The days are long this time of year, so there is plenty of time for all of the above. Thank you for the rave review, we hope to see you in not too distant future! karen & craig.

“Fantastic!”

Really can't say enough about how great this place and it's owners were. The cottage was right out of a storybook, right down to the ivy covered stone walls. We only stayed 4 days but could have stayed indefinitely. They were very helpful with recommendations of local places for restaurants and activities. Everything we could possibly need was provided, including fluffy robes.A rental car is a must for this area but getting around was a breeze. Best part of our whole trip.

Response from the owner Well, that sure is a lovely review!!!!! Thank you so much. We really enjoyed having them here as well and hope that they'll return sooner rather than later. And, pass our information onto friends and family. There's room in September and October for those who are travelling later in the year....... Off to the pool and lunch afterwards al fresco. karen & craig.

“We'll be back!”

We've stayed in this cottage or a larger one on the same property several times and always look forward to our return. The location is perfect for seeing the chateaux of the Loire Valley (and close enough to CDG airport to catch a noon flight), and the cottage is a welcome retreat after a long day of sight-seeing. The kitchen is equipped with everything necessary to prepare a good meal using the riches of the wonderful markets at nearby Montrichard or amboise, and the bathroom is larger than some bedrooms I've seen and sports a magnificent shower. The bed in the main room is extremely comfortable and is outfitted with lovely linens, and the room itself is spacious yet cozy-feeling. Best of all is the hospitality offered by Karen and Craig, who have amazing knowledge of the area and that perfect knack of knowing when to offer a glass of wine or when to respect their guests' privacy. We can't wait to return!

“So good we did it twice”

Reviewed 10 Dec 2011

It was the perfect central location to see everything we wanted to see in the Loire Valley and venture into Samur the second time around. Karen and Craig are americans, so my husband, who speaks no French, was very comfortable. They provide tips about outdoor markets and "best practices" if you need them. The cottage was clean and charming. Having a kitchen was also a plus and we liked being able to have breakfast, coffee, and late night snacks. We went both times in October, so there was no swimming for us. I have recommended this lovely place in the country to friends. It was a bit out of the way and we needed to call for directions and we were arriving very late in the evening - they were very accomodating.

“Quiet retreat in the country”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2011

My fiance and I stayed here for 3 glorious days in October '11. It truly has every amenity you could wish for. It looks out over expansive fields to the forest. Very private We needed a quiet retreat after a week in Paris. This was it! Farmers markets nearby allowed us to prepare our meals in the very well stocked kitchen. Comfortable bed and bedding, wonderful shower, linens etc.. Our hosts Karen and Craig were a great source of information regarding the area. We look forward to the time when we can return...

Response from the owner Craig and I too enjoyed having these guests in October--albeit only for the three nights, as I think they would have liked to stay longer--. They gave us insight into what kind of a truly lovely place we live in, because, sometimes, after 21 years, one tends to become complacent...... They enjoyed the farmers'markets--as do we--(just returned from one 20 minutes away). And, the scents that wafted from the kitchen in the cottage afterwards "showed" us that they were happy preparing their finds. We look forward to their return one day! With thanks, karen & craig.

“A perfect little cottage in a beautiful spot”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2011

My husband and I spent a week here and loved everything about it. The main room is beautiful, spacious and comfortable and the huge bathroom is amazing. I loved the location, out in the country with expansive views, yet close to Pontlevoy, Montrichard, Amboise, and all the Loire Valley chateaus. The owners are wonderful!

Response from the owner What a lovely review--and our 1st on FlipKey!!!!! We look forward to having many responses--and happy guests--as a result. Many thanks, karen & craig.
