“Paradise found”

Reviewed 25 May 2015

Perfect setting made even better by private bungalows, our own pool right on the beach and fabulous, fresh food cooked and served for us daily by wonderful, friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble to the extent of following us on departure, on a motor bike to return a left behind mobile phone. We would all highly recommend The Kampung as a reasonably priced chance to experience a slice of paradise.

“Great place to learn diving-great villa”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2014

We stayed eight nights in the Kampung and really ennjoyed the experience. It is one of those places that is actually more beautiful than the already stunning pictures you see on the web. Really wonderful for small kids, it has a very nice garden and lots of toys for them to play with. The staff is absolutely wonderful, from the manager to the cook, they all want to make sure you have a great stay. I recommend getting them to bbq fish for you or veg kebabs. Going for a fishing trip with the fishermen was also great. I would not recommend, however, that you call upon the doctor that the villa uses, to treat you or your children, he does not really know what he is doing. If you have small kids, get the number of one of the 24 hour clinics in amed. Be also prepared with some basic medecine such as imodium. Overall, though, I would highly recommend this villa, especially to go and learn scuba diving, which we did.

“Amazing Stay!”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2013

We just recently returned from a fantastic 10 day stay at the Kampung. From the moment we set foot in this beautiful oasis we knew that we had made the right choice. Mandra and all the team were always there to help but never intrusive. Made's cooking was consistently excellent...Im really missing the Beef Rendang and shredded chicken!! I think it took several years for the Kampung to take shape because the antique houses had to be sourced/shipped from Java and rebuilt..its quite an achievement. Thanks again to Bill and all the staff...we will return! Scott, Melanie and adair (Dey-Dey)

“Perfect Honeymoon!”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed four days and had the dreamiest time at Villa Kampung! The distribution of the houses is ideal, with the beach just in front of us and a private pool for us to enjoy! The Dining pavilion (call it lounging pavilion) was incredibly comfortable and we used the table and the daybed and even the game table. The staff is superb! They are attentive but respectful. We actually only went out to eat once .. we were happy to have food prepared since we were already at the most beautiful spot in amed! Thank you so much Bill! We will be back next year for sure. I can't imagine going to amed and staying anywhere else!!!

“The Kampung is perfection”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2013

After Uluwatu & Ubud, we landed at The Kampung. Wow! Sooo beautiful, sooo perfect. Our kids (10 & 12) loved the pool, the snorkelling just off the beach. The villas are amazing. The architectural details are incredible. But best of all - the staff! We felt indulged, spoilt but in a beautiful way - not too intense. The food was among the best traditional Balinese we had on our holiday, and the western food the kids ate was consumed with gusto. We hope to visit again. We felt like we were leaving our family after only 5 days ... cannot recommend enough!

“A beautifull place to stay”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2013

We had a great time in amed, Bali. It was a beautifull place and also the houskeeping were very kind and helpfull. After a few weeks of intensive traveling arround Java, this was a perfect place to get some good rest. If you need some quality time with your family without being overwhelmed by tourist, salesmen et cetera, this is a great place to be.

“Beautiful retreat!”

Reviewed 6 Feb 2013

This place is amazing. The attention to the architectural detail by the owners is stunning. The staff was beyond anything I've ever experienced before. So nice - they really made you feel welcome. Loved swimming in the pool everyday. Started each day with breakfast (served by the fantastic staff) on the outdoor patio. Read a book. Work on the tan. It was easy to rent a motor scooter and explore the area. Great restaurants nearby but even better, the staff will cook your meals for you. Just tell them what you want. Will definitely go back. Some day. It's a long way from la! The drive from Seminyak long. But worth it. So nice to get away from the bustle of city.

“R-E-A-L Bali! Don't miss it!”

6 reasons to come to the east coast of Bali (rather than the touristy areas near the airport): 1). Support the relatively poor fishermen and farmers in the villages on the coast. They do double duty as drivers, cooks, maids, masseuse, tour guides for scuba/snorkeling/fishing...and they do it well, with a huge friendly smile, because they are greatful that you are supporting their village (Amed). 2). The accommodations are fabulous (at Villa Kampung) and oh, so reasonable. Our own pool, wi-fi, AC at night, sea kayak, concierge, two lovely maids, one cook, night time security. 3). Local drivers who will take you wherever you want to go and talk to about their love of Bali...and get you back in one piece (so far). 4). Home cooked Balinese or Indonesian dishes (you get to call the amount of hot chilis!) 5). Some of the best snorkeling in the world right out front and down in the next bay around the bend. 6). And a $10 massage by your pool at sunset, waves lapping at the beach, nice breeze, no humidity, by tiny hands that are very powerful and full of genuine concern for your comfort and relaxation. On the downside...it does take a long time to get here from the airport (3 hours) and the trip is not for the faint of heart! Rush hour (i.e. All the time) on tiny two lane roads, loaded with small trucks and motorbikes, none of whom (including our driver) have much concern for traffic rules (if they even exist here!) Yikes! But it's a small price to pay for the experience at Villa Kampung (and it gives us a good story to tell!) Have I made my case?!

“Perfect in every way”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2012

We stayed for 3 nights at the Kampung in the village of Bunutan and wish we were still there being pampered by the special staff in paradise. On arrival we were met by Wayan and some of the ladies who whisked our luggage away and presented us with cool refreshing towels and a welcome lemon juice drink; from that moment on nothing was too much trouble for the staff and our every need was looked after. We were in Kampung Limas, which is the larger of the two 'kampungs', consisting of three javanese joglos - the two that we used each had an enormous king-size++ bed and a double daybed, both with mozzie nets, writing table with chair, wardrobe, bedside tables and a huge outdoor bathroom with shower complete with shampoo, conditioner, bath gel etc. In addition there is an open-sided pavilion, close to the pool and the beach, with another three daybeds, dining table and chairs where we spent a good part of the day. Another seperate building housed the kitchen and was the domain of Made - the balinese lady who cooked all our meals for us, just for the cost of the ingredients. We discussed the menu the day before and at the alloted time a wondrous meal would be set in front of us - a real treat not to have to leave the kampung to find food! Everything was sparkling clean and well maintained. The Kampung is built right at the top of the beach, which is of the black stone variety - not the easiest to walk on, but doable. We found good coral for snorkeling just 50 metres down the beach and the sea was very safe for swimming. We would thoroughly recommend an extended stay at the Kampung and intend to visit again very soon.
