“A serene place away from the madding crowd.”

Reviewed 28 May 2014

We REALLY enjoyed our stay at your gite. I speak for my wife & my brother who stayed in the cottage section when I say that we enjoyed the three days we spent in the lovely village of Sonnac Sur l'Hers. Nick's chef skills as well as your hospitality made our stay a most pleasant one. This combined with the peaceful setting of your place made for a restful break in our trip. The hiking trail through the hills behind the village was most pleasant and the scenery, beautiful. Waking to the sound of the adjacent farm animals and mourning doves made the experience a real pleasure. The local wines & cheeses were excellent as well and beautifully complimented the meals we had.. ;) Wish Nick had shared his bread recipe however ;)

“A friendly and relaxing place to stay”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2013

Carolyn and Nick could not have been more accommodating. We decided not to hire a car and use the cottage as a base for our cycling holiday.Nick provided the airport transfer and a supermarket visit en-route to the cottage. We cycled the local area each day and had a very comfortable and relaxing base to operate from. We decided to dine with Carolyn and Nick on alternate nights - the food and company were excellent and one of the highlights of our week in France. This was a delightful introduction to cycling in France which we would recommend to new and experienced travellers to the area.

“Peace and Quiet in the Country”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2013

La Maison Bleue is an oasis of calm in the hamlet of Sonnac sur L'Hers. It is easy to find and delightful to return to each day after touring. The house has lovely outdoor spaces in front of the dwelling or on the back terrace overlooking hills and fields with sheep and cows. Very restful. Interior space is good, beds are comfortable and linens of top quality. Our hosts left us farm fresh eggs, bread, milk, tea and coffee to get us started as well as olive oil, herbs and balsamic vinegar in the cupboards. Fresh flowers adorned the dining table. There is a good selection of Dvd's should you wish to stay home of an evening and catch a feel good film. If you wish, Nigel will make you dinner at the next door B&B.; It's a very good deal! Carolyn is a charming hostess. I recommend this vacation home to anyone who enjoys a tranquil holiday.

“Charming place to relax.”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2013

We had only a short stay at Chez Maison Bleue but saw some of the magic of its special location on the picturesque village square (where fortunately the church bells stop ringing over night!). The house is renovated thoughtfully and feels homely with books on the shelves, a good coffee machine and a box of Dvd's. We felt extremely welcomed by Carolyn who made the arrangements very easy and exceeded our expectations with a welcome of wine, bread and cheese given our late arrival. Shame we couldn't stay longer.

“2 weeks of utter relaxation”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2013

We stayed for two weeks at Chez Maison Bleue, 6 nights in the bed & breakfast and 8 nights in the gite. We took our 3 year old son and 3 month old daughter. The house and gite have been renovated in a very pleasing way and you are made to feel at home the moment you walk through the front door. Nothing was too much trouble and Carolyn had thought of everything for the kids. It was great to be able to sample Nicks cooking whenever we were too exhausted to cook (which was often). Every meal was superb and Nicks knowledge of the local cuisine was extensive as was the extent of the local produce. The advice given to us on what to see and do by Carolyn and Nick was spot on. The village itself is small and picturesque. It is a very peaceful and relaxing place. There is not a great deal to do in the village other than taking in the scenery and wildlife. There are also plenty nice walks and cycles. Within a short drive however there is plenty to do for families with young kids and we did something different most days. I would heartily recommend this holiday to anybody who likes beautiful scenery, diverse culture and fantastic cuisine.

“Beautiful house in a lovely quiet square”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2013

We were a family of 4 (girls aged 14 and 11) and had a lovely relaxing time in the gîte. It is well appointed and spotlessly clean. The lakes, especially Carcassonne Plage, were a good alternative to the coast. An ideal location to explore the local area or just relax at home. The square on which the house is situated is idyllic and very quiet except the church bells which do not ring at night.

“Lovely Gite Close to Many Places”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2013

We had a wonderful week at this gite and it was close to everything, including within walking distance of a Tour De France stage. We were also close to other wonderful places like the market of Mirepoix, the walled city of Carcassone and many chateaux of medieval times. Our hosts even had short cuts that made it easier to get around. The gite was very clean and thoughtfully furnished: the highlights were the wonderful tub and the upper patio that overlooked the hills behind. We ate out there every night. We did quite a bit of light cooking there and had everything we needed. Our hosts could not have been nicer, including a delicious welcoming meal and many suggestions based on our interests. Nick even helped us get answers on our next stay. The rooms were exactly as described and could comfortably have slept 6. We used the washing machine several times which was great as the temps were warm and we did a lot of hiking on the many trails just outside the property. For us, a deciding factor was being able to walk to the Tour de France stage. We walked there mid-morning and walked back mid-afternoon. Based on its location, I would estimate that it would be pretty easy to get to other stages that are close by, even by driving. I would definitely recommend this gite and the hosts, and have been doing so when our friends hear what a wonderful time we had there.

“Simply Divine! Gritty angel Thumbs Up!”

Reviewed 5 Feb 2013

I knew I wanted to return to this beautiful area in southern France and couldn't have picked a better "home away from home". I rented the cottage for 3 weeks and ended up staying a month! Cozy and comfortable with a nice blend of antiques and Ikea and my own personal fig tree! The bathtub was divine with a view of the village square with it's lovely fountain. The pictures are very accurate on the website. I loved the ambiance and charm of the small village, with the tinkle of cow bells and you are within a short distance of castles and wineries by car and bike. All the special Cathar haunts from Montsegur to Carcassonne! Just watch those French drivers on country roads! The open market on Mondays in Mirepoix is the best way to shop and only 20 minutes away plus other local markets with everything you could wish for. Carolyn and Nick were the kindest and very respectful hosts, very responsive by email and always willing to help me bumble through a French translation or share a glass of wine on the terrace or a cooking utensil! Just a totally joyous experience and I shall return! Dog friendly too which gets 5 stars in my books. You won't be disappointed by your stay or this location!

“Home away from home - sout of France”

Reviewed 4 Feb 2013

Nick and Carolyn provided a first class service that made us feel like we were in a home away from home. The cottage is in an idyllic setting in the tiny village of Sonnac-sur-L'Hers, surrounded by similar cottages and a church. The room was warm, pleasant and comfortable, with plenty of privacy. The bathroom was roomy with both a bath and shower. Meals were exceptional. Nick is a cordon bleu trained chef and the offerings were proof. Breakfast was brilliant with eggs to order, including an omelette and the usual continental fare. Dinner was three courses accompanied by great wines. Nick and Carolyn were able to give us an insight to the local attractions and we took advantage of those. The best part of the stay was the evening chats with the hosts. The worst part was having to leave!

“Relaxing, exiting,homecoming”

Chez Maison Bleue. The first week of our holiday we spend at the gite of Chez maison bleue, what a surprise ! The warm welcome of Carolyn and Nick at our arrival and the beautifully restored medieval stable which is transformed into a modern gite next to the BB. The gite is really clean, nice and complete, situated at the small village square. Nicks lovely meals we enjoyed at the terras of Chez Maison Bleue. Even our vegetarian daughter was served lovely meals by Nick. It is a fact we will return to enjoy Chez Maison Bleue again!
