“Flat Champagne”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2013

I travelled to Villa Champagne in July for a week with friends and family expecting luxury accommodation (as advertised) in a facility that offered everything we needed. On arrival Villa Champagne looked everything that it was advertised to be - after this initial first impression everything was a just a massive disappointment! The weather was fairly ordinary for the time we were in Vanuatu which forced us inside - the wind literally blew us back inside the house. You cant plan the weather but the house was advertised with enough facilities. The TV didn't work (flashed on and off continually)and staff had no idea how to operate it - we couldn't use this facility for the whole period. The internet was so slow and with 6 teenagers in the house was hopeless. The free use of the Toyota land cruiser - this vehicle was very old and quite frankly should not be offered to guests. The hot water in the house was always running out and you had to plan to press the manual heat switch 1 hour before you wanted a shower. With 10 people in the house most were left with cold showers. Kitchen - There are not even 2 wine glasses the same left in this house! It appeared to us that all that's left in the kitchen is left overs from years gone by. This is not luxury accommodation!!! There weren't enough blankets in the house - weather was awful so kids wanted to be warm. After complaining a few times to the house staff the agent sent new blankets?? Tennis court hadn't been cleaned for a long time and was in a state of disrepair! Cat - not sure why you would leave a cat in the house? It was so old and then got ill and we had to take it into town to the vet and collect it the next day. We understood from staff that this house was on the market and the owners were not using it much anymore. I was not going to write a negative review based on one visit as things can sometimes go wrong but all things considered this was a gross waste of money. Sell it or do a major revamp!

Response from the manager I feel compelled to respond to this review as whilst I know how bad the weather was during your stay I do know that there were a number of things we did to try and assist your needs. The weather here plays a major part on internet and TV communications which is sometimes unavoidable. The internet service is intended for guests to keep on touch with family or work and not to be used as an internet cafe. The internet services in Vanuatu generally are expensive and slow and I make no apologies for this. Our Service provider for both TV and Internet is always consulted whenever we have any issues and generally they are able to assist as long as its not a general outage. Yes the vehicle is old and we have now moved to not offer the car to future bookings but have included a hire car in the tariff. Some guests still use it however. We are always contactable by phone to assist with any guests issues throughout their stay and we provide our contact details and a welcome kit for all guests on arrival. In the past 12 month the owners have spent around AUD$200,000 on this property and more recently we have replaced the solar hot water heaters with gas powered heat pumps. Our Housekeeper Valerie provides us with shopping lists weekly of any replacements required so I am at a loss to understand why glassware would be short on nevertheless we do accept complete responsibility for that and ensured that this would not happen again. I guess at the end of the day when bad weather interferes with your holiday then the options of what to do each day are somewhat reduced. We see so many great reviews both on this site and personal feedback that we can only say we are sorry that you did not find this property to your liking Kind Regards Bryan

“Amazingly beautiful and very homely”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2013

My husband and I with our 3 kids along with 2 other families just spent a fabulous weeks holiday in Vanuatu staying at Villa Champagne. We loved everything about the house and had a really great vacation. A very special thanks to Valerie who was wonderfully cheerful & helpful every day, and was always happy to oblige all our guests. The access to the vehicle was excellent however we also arranged Seth in his bus to help transport everyone around the island on several day trips - definitely do this, as Seth is very punctual and trustworthy and goes out of his way to help you. A special thank you to the "Bryans" who came over whenever we needed any minor adjustment/help ie. getting the TV to work. Villa Champagne is a beautiful home and I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of staying there.

Response from the manager Thank you for your lovely comments. Villa Champagne is truly a gem in the South Pacific with a touch of Gone with the wind

This was the most amazing holiday! What a wonderful house and amazing service by Valerie, Suzie, Helen and Sasha. Thanks girls we will never forget you! We did our own cooking and enjoyed the amazing beef that was plentiful at the supermarkets. We will be back! Sophie and family

“Very hot”

I really liked the way the house was set and thought the pool was amazing. The hired help were all fabulous but it was very hot at night. I think air conditioning would be great for every room.
