“Everything we hoped for and more”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2013

As promised we were met by Seth and taken to the supermarket so we could stock up on goodies for a couple of days. The house, well, to be honest the photos don't do it justice! It was beautitiful; had everything we needed and more - and its situation means we were always shelted from the prevailing winds which was awesome. The covered deck is fantastic (its a great spot for watching the cruise ships leave at night) and you look over the pool to the beautiful sea where we swam and snorkelled. When the tide is out there is a rock pool to swim in - the best of both worlds. Linda and David (on site) are delightful and Rusty the kelpie looked after us and made sure we did not miss our own four legged lady too much. Its only 7 minutes from town - the road in can be rather bumpy which added to the charm of the place - if hiring a car I suggest a 4 wheel drive as we had, rather than a sedan. If you don't want to get a car the buses are numerous, frequent, very cheap and will take you just about anywhere you want to go. We all agreed it was a great find and are currently discussing when our next visit will be, as we will definately be back.

“Overpriced, difficult to find, no internet”

Reviewed 18 Jan 2013

While the house itself is large and pleasant (just like the photos), there are a number of downsides that potential guests should be aware of: 1. It is extremely difficult to get to -- nearly impossible if you don't have a rental car. Even with a rental car, it requires approximately 15 minutes of slow and very bumpy driving on a small unpaved road each time you want to get to/leave from the property. You also have to memorize a sequence of right and left turns along this small, unmarked and unpaved road in order to successfully reach the property from the rest of the island -- something that may be difficult especially at night. We got lost a couple of times. There are definitely other properties that are more accessible to the rest of the island. Also note, although we arrived on a late night flight from Sydney, the owner (Bryan) was not there to greet us, nor did he appear the following morning or at any other time. 2. There is no internet, despite the owner's promises. While this may not matter to you (you may be wanting to disengage completely from the outside world) -- it was a significant problem for us. I was constantly required to go to town and to other hotels and pay for internet -- partly so I could send the owner emails about not having internet! Despite daily complaints to the owner, nothing was done and the internet was not fixed. 3. The beach has no sand. On the contrary, it has rough coral rocks. While this is nice to look at, it is dangerous to swim in without shoes. I, for example, got a nasty and deep cut on my toe when I tried to go swimming. Visitors should be very careful, since these types of cuts (even small ones) can easily turn into coral infections. Because of these downsides, I'd recommend considering a different property if you are planning on visiting Vanuatu. As for Vanuatu generally, it is a beautiful island with amazing scenery and a lovely local population. I strongly recommend it to everyone.

Response from the manager I need to write a response to this review to clarify some of the comments raised. I agree that the house is accessed by a sometime potholed road however ,most agree the drive is worth it once you are there. WE are in Vanuatu where sealed roads outside of the municipality are rare apart form the new Efate Ring Road I was not on hand to meet the guests at the airport as this task is performed by our driver Seth or Brian depending on the circumstances and flight arrivals time. They carry with them our welcome kit for guests and take them to the accommodation and settle them in or take them via the supermarket to shop enroute should the flight arrive during business hours. I did go to the house 3 times during the guests stay. On 2 occassions they were out enjoying the sites and activites of Vanuatu and on the 3rd occassion they were still asleep so obvioulsy did not wish to disturb. The internet issue was a problem and from the time they made us aware of it we endeavoured to have our service provider sort this issue out. It turned out that the modem was the problem and we immediately purchased another and installed that however there were further issues with connectivity which we aplogised for. We do live in Vanuatu where sometimes these things happen. Nearly all beaches in Vanuatu have a degree of corall rock in the sand and we do always recommend that people wear protective footwear in the form of Reef Shoes.and this is recommended in the Broadwater Info kit. The treatment of small cuts is also addressed in this kit and the same information is provided for all of our properties in Vanuatu. I am please that Paul enjoyed the Counrty and the people it is truly an amazing place when you look at what is happening in many other parts of the world
