The property is situated on the square of a charming 13th century village in the Lot, near the Dordogne and Aquitaine. The terrace, where breakfast and dinner can be served, has panoramic views of the countryside. The two double-bedded rooms are modest but practical and are in an independent wing of the house.

If you want private facilities when booking one of the bedrooms you can make an exclusive reservation. The entire guest wing will therefore be yours for a supplement.

Your host is Sally Gaucheron, a British art historian resident in the region since 1991. The range of services she provides reflects her interests : personal cultural tours, walking holidays, artist's or writer's retreat. Sally creates holidays for individuals and not groups.

This region of southwest France is famous for its wealth of Paleolithic and medieval sites, picturesque hilltop villages and unspoiled and varied landscape.

St. Cirq-Lapopie, Rocamadour and the Valentré Bridge at Cahors are the best known sites in the Lot. Many less familiar but equally delightful treasures await the enquiring visitor. Pech Merle is of international renown, both for its prehistoric images and geological formations. Bonaguil castle is just a short drive away. Lawrence of Arabia wrote about it in a letter to his mother in 1908: "It is so perfect that it is almost ridiculous to call it a ruin".

Henry Miller describes the area in 'The Colossus of Maroussi': "It is not French, not Austrian, not European even: it is the country of enchantment which the poets have staked out and which they alone may lay claim to. It is the nearest thing to paradise this side of Greece. Let us call it the Frenchman's paradise, by way of making a concession."

You can visit these sites and more without having a car! The solution is to book your own touring programme with Sally. However she is always pleased to advise you if you wish to remain independent.

Getting around

Having a car means you have complete freedom. However Sally's supplementary service of guided tours and walks allow you to explore and fully appreciate the treasures of this region. Indeed many visitors stay without their own means of transport, who are met at certain train stations by prior arrangement.
