The Milestone offers a three bedroom fully-appointed holiday home just a few steps from the ocean offering you seclusion, exclusivity and direct access to your own private beach. It is the perfect haven for nature lovers and for all of us wishing to recharge our batteries from the stress of daily living..

Relax to the sound of birdsong and gentle waves lapping. Experience unique encounters with such South African wildlife as Cape clawless otters, dolphins, cape fur seals, genets, mongoose, porcupine and a variety of sea and land birds. During the calving season between July and November, experience the thrill of seeing Southern Right whales swimming and breaching right in front of the house from the comfort of the living room. Enjoy swimming or snorkelling at the bottom of the garden, exploring interesting rock pools or going for leisurely coastal walks. The world renowned Boulder’s penguin colony is within easy walking distance of The Milestone, passing three charming white sandy beaches, of which Fisherman's Beach is a leisurely 3-minute walk from The Milestone.

The Milestone enjoys a superb 180-degree uninterrupted sea-view, making the ever-changing moods of the panorama from the spectacular sunrises over the sea and the Hottentots Holland Mountains to the equally impressive pastel sunsets part of The Milestone experience. The house is situated in a secluded garden that opens onto shoreline.

The Milestone offers Seclusion Without Isolation

The house is lovingly maintained, comfortably and attractively furnished and well equipped with everything you would need for a seaside holiday. The house sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. The living room is furnished with comfortable seating, CD/DVD player and television. The sunroom and living room’s large windows allow for panoramic views of False Bay. The dining room seats six. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, kettle and vacuum cleaner. The washing machine, a second fridge,barbecue equipment and deck chairs are in the annex.

The Milestone combines the pleasure of being close to nature with accessibility to the major attractions in Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. The historic village of Simon's Town with its interesting shops, art galleries, museums and good restaurants is a mere 5-minute drive from The Milestone.

All outside photos were shot from either the deck, garden or the rocks on the seashore in front of the house, except the photograph shot from Fisherman's Beach looking towards The Milestone. In this shot the house is partly obscured by trees, thus unfortunately not visible unless the photo is blown up very large, but the large boulders and land marks shown in the other photographs should be recognisable.

The penguin and dassie populations have taken a dive lately due to caracals that were praying on them. Two were caught by the municipality at The Milestone and have been relocated to Hout Bay. So, hopefully the penguin numbers will now increase again. Penguins lay only one or two eggs a year so the rate of increase might be slow.

Response from the owner The Milestone truly is an idyllic retreat and is very popular during the holiday season. Many of the guests are regular returnees, some opting to return during the moderate off season when the wind drops and the sea becomes calm. Demand is highest during the summer months and I wish not to disappoint the pool of regular guests that has grown over the years. It is for this reason that I don’t favour the monopolisation of this peak period by one set of guests despite the fact that it cuts down a little on housekeeping. With normal bookings it is possible to sort out problems that may arise at changeover times ensuring guests are not inconvenienced nor their privacy compromised during their stay at the Milestone. The Jensens are lovely people and very persuasive, they managed to convince me to deviate from regular policy and allow them to book the Milestone for extended periods over peak season. In the process I have had to disappoint other long- time customers even before the Jensen’s booking has been secured by payment of the deposit. Health problems and uncertainties have been cited as reasons for the delay in paying the deposit and I accept this but it still forces me to turn down other bookings without certainty that the Jensen booking will actually materialise. This has motivated me to return to my long-standing booking policy for the Milestone. Also staying for extended periods increases the likelihood that problems that arise with the house will coincide with the stay and this unfortunately is what occurred in the case of the Jensens. I apologise profusely that this happened but in defence must state that the problems that arose, the water supply problem and the installation of the security system were beyond my control. I also apologise for the disappointment my decision has caused the Jensens but I would never disregard an agreement that has been sealed by payment of the deposit.
