“Hidden Gem”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2014

Simply spending one day on the verandah feels like you've spent a week on holidays. It is located on a quite section of the island where the locals go to relax by the water. With views over the lagoon, it is a place you could spend an eternity at. Nora and Rema were superb with coordinating the booking and making sure everything was ready for our arrival, as well as making us feel like part of the family. Having stayed at a resort previously, Ootu provided the freedom you would like on an island like this. Importantly it provided the opportunity to cook our own meals without having to eat out every meal (which can be quite expensive). Scooter hire, fishing, sail boats, stand up paddle boards and more are located right at the front door. The best part of the experience was waking up and walking 10m to the beach and shallow lagoon section directly in front of the house and going for a morning/midday/afternoon/evening swim. Have already booked again for next time.

“Excellent home”

Reviewed 2 Mar 2014

Everything about this home is first rate. The location is the best on aitutaki. The home is spacious and comfortable. Private, but easy access to local restaurants. The view of the lagoon is something to enjoy every moment. Nora and Richard provide great support, either booking or while at the home.

“lovely house in a lovely location”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2013

We originally intended to stay in a resort but could not find one we liked that had vacancies. We took the Villa as second choice , but it will be first choice next time. It is a great location , plenty of space , very clean and tidy with excellent facilities. When we arrived there were fresh flower arrangements in the lounge room , fruit in the fruit bowl and coconut drinks in the fridge, some nice touches. There is a good choice of nearby eating places and we hired a buggy from the nearby Boat shed which was great for getting around the island. Evan as a couple it was great to have the space that the villa provides.

“The best spot of entire Lagoon”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2013

We have studied quite many accomodations on aitutaki and finally decided to go to aitutaki Ootu Villa, which we definitely did not regret at all. On the contrary: We found this place to be the best spot on the Island even if it is some km from the main city, but there are nice restaurants (Samade, The Boat Shed Bar & Grill, Kouru Cafe) in walking distance. Alone for a supermarket a scooter is needed. Nora's familiy gave us a warm welcome and always had an open ear for us to make our stay most pleasurable. The villa is very new, spacious and very recommendable for a big familiy or two couples. Kitchen is well equipped for full self-containement. Due to travel schedule we only stayed 6 nights, could have easily spent 2 or 3 weeks there.

“Warm and Friendly”

warm, peaceful, quiet, relaxing, no dogs. no rubbish, no glass on the beach, very friendly, very clean.

“Fantastic fortnight in paradise.”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2013

We have had a very relaxing fortnight in Ootu villa. Mum, Dad and five kids managed to fit in comfortably and the safe swimming beach across the very quiet road (track), with the ability to watch the kids in the water from the living room and deck made for a very relaxing time. Rima and Richard were great hosts and made us feel very welcome and we would highly recommend staying here to anyone! A modern and comfortable building in the most friendly tropical paradise, what is not to recommend. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

“Great short stay at Ootu Villa”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2012

We stayed for 4 nights in early October as our second destination in aitutaki having spent the previous 8 nights at Tamanu. Booking with Nora was easy and she responded quickly to all enquiries. Ootu Beach is definitely the preferable spot for swimming at all tides...there were no sea slugs that are so prevalent on the other coast. The house was modern, clean and well presented. The kitchen was well resourced for self-cooking. We were warmly welcomed by Richard and Rima who made us feel at home. The outlook to the colours of the lagoon was fabulous. There are good restaurants in walking distance that serve a good range of enjoyable meals and they are also licensed. Having rented a scooter while at Tamanu, we were well stocked for breakfast items. If we were to stay longer, I think we'd plan to bring more food staples with us from home as restaurant prices were maybe a little more than NZ...but then the food has to travel a long way to get to an island! We took a day trip on Te Vaka cruises and were pleased with our choice. The big 'waka' style boat meant you could stand up and move around. We enjoyed our snorkelling encounter with giant trevally on this day out. The lunch proved to be surprisingly good too. On our last night, Richard and Rima rounded up the neighbourhood for a barbecue which was a really enjoyable way to finish our stay. Our only con was the lack of shade at this beach but as the trees mature that will change...oh, and I had sun lounger envy - two were sitting unused on the deck of the house next door!

“The best choice!”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2012

The location on Ootu beach is perfect to explore the lagoon and the house is perfect with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and livingroom with a terrific view. There's also a fantastic outside deck to relax yourselves and to have a drink! Result? We think is not possible to find something better in aitutaki!

“Great villa”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2012

this is the perfect spot for a aitutaki break within easy walk to great eating places & bars (the Boatshed, Koru Cafe, Samades). It is a big house, with lots of room for the 4 of us, 2 bathrooms were also a bonus. Rima & Richard looked after us so well and we had a very entertaining bbq with them and our neighbours. Having the beach right on the doorstep was a huge plus too. We'd go back in a flash. The only recommendation I'd make would be to have a folder with activities/places to eat/places to see etc for those new to the island.

“Fantastic house & location”

Reviewed 6 Jun 2012

This is our second time back to this beautiful Island of aitutaki. We stayed for 2 weeks in this beautiful modern home, very clean & well equipped for anything that you need, very good for families lots of room. Is in a perfect location on the Lagoon side and just a few steps from the front door to the water. Walking distance to Restaurants, cafe & boat trips that take you out for the day to other Motu's . Groceries etc is not very far but will need car or scooter. My husband & I spent most of the time sitting on the deck having breakfast, dinner , drinks in the afternoon looking out to the lagoon, it was like being in Paradise. The home belongs to a beautiful family, all very helpful, welcoming & eager to help you in any way. I highly recommend this home to anyone, I am going back next year, can't wait...
