“Beautiful large house, perfect for group travellers”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2013

Mimosa is a wonderful place to stay. We were a family group with partners ranging from 26 to late 50s and it was perfect for us. The bedrooms are large and all have ensuites. The communal areas are sunny, roomy and a great place to relax as a group. Each day a cleaner would come, so while having our 'private' house, we still had the service of a hotel. We certainly enjoyed having some drinks on the balcony upstairs while watching the sunset at the end of each day. Mimosa is on the 'other side' of Puerto ayora, in the sense you have to catch a small boat to get to the main shops etc. The boat costs 60c per person ($1 at night) and we didn't have to wait more than 3 minutes for a boat at any one time (and the trip to the main area of town takes less than two minutes). Looking at the hotels in town, we were very happy with our choice of accommodation. The hotels seemed overpriced and as we were a group of 8, we saved a substantial amount of money compared to having to book 4 hotel rooms. The owners are absolutely lovely and accommodating and booking Mimosa was a breeze. We had a brief problem with the refrigerator and they were so nice as to bring an esky of ice so that our beers were nice and cold when we returned home! I would certainly recommend this place to stay to group travellers, families or people interested in a long-term stay and looking for a place with a homey feel.

“Mimosa - how you will be missed”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2013

My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon. It was a bit big for just us, however, we enjoyed the property very much. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was easy to pay for and find. The whole experience on the island was a fond memory that will not be forgotten. We had the pleasure of scuba diving, day tours to see many of the island's natural attractions, and eating phenomenal Ecuadorian food. We hope your stay at Mimosa is just as memorable as ours.

“Great house for a family or group”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2013

We stayed at Mimosa for a week in June. We were 7 people and the house met our needs for space and privacy. We loved the location as it was away from the town and the water taxi rides were a novel experience, although they do get expensive for 7 people at night ( $14 return trip). The kitchen is adequately equipped and we bought fresh fish and vegetables and managed to make some good home meals. We also recommend having Fernanda cook a meal. After a long day out exploring an island, coming home to a delicious, Ecuadorian meal was a delightful treat! Marta the housekeeper was warm and helpful, and came everyday. Although the services do not include any laundry, we found that our towels and other clothing really needed to be washed and Marta was available to do it for a nominal fee. We highly recommend this house as a great alternative to a hotel.

“Great Getaway for Group”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2013

We learned so much from Paul. His excursions were a great value, and his knowledge and passion for the Galapagos made the trip very interesting and fun. The Mimosa house was large and well-equipped. I would recommend the Mimosa to any group. It was a great value for us since we shared the cost 4 ways with our friends. We have so many great photos of wildlife and will remember this trip for a lifetime.

“Relaxing, comfortable, spacious...unforgettable stay!”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2013

Full marks for our stay at Mimosa! We couldn't have been happier with our choice of accommodation for a weeks stay in Puerto ayora. The house is very spacious, has all the amenities you could need, is very comfortable and in a great location away from all the hustle and bustle, surrounded by nature yet close enough to town..we loved taking the water taxi to and from the port. The whole booking process, check-in and check-out was professional, efficient and welcoming. Paul, the Owner, was a pleasure to deal with and kindly gave us the best room arrangement for our party. We would most definitely stay here again and have recommended it to many of our friends and family at home. Mimosa is an excellent option for exploring Santa Cruz and for those who wish to plan their own Galapagos experience by doing day trips from Puerto ayora. Highly recommended.

“Marvelous Mimosa”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2012

How do you begin to describe perfection? During our unfortunately extremely short visit to the Galapagos, our Study abroad group chose to organize an independent trip to the Galapagos. The Property Manager of Mimosa, where we stayed, Paul Mc Farling, was our backbone. Arranging things for our group to do, leading tours, and giving out the best advice for where to eat or do anything else, he had us covered for our entire adventure. The Mimosa house itself was absolutely breathtaking. It was a real pleasure to be in a semi-secluded area, but have the incredible views, and ease of transportation as well. The house was well kept by a very friendly maid, who can definetely make you laugh. I have to say my favorite part of the house however was the Patio on the top floor. The scenery and views have no match, and the hammock made just the perfect touch! No matter how much I type words cannot express what a pleasure it was to stay at Mimosa and get to know Paul and his wife, experiencing a real taste of the Galapagos.

“Lovely”

The house was great...beautiful house, comfortable beds, very clean, plenty of hot water. Great upper deck for relaxing...and what a great view up there. Loved the no-car/pedestrian paths only in the neighbourhood. Paul and Mariza took great care of us!

“Great family spot at good value”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2012

Our family ranging from 12 to 77 (6 people) stayed at Mimosa for a week. It was a great house for our group--spacious living area, ac available when needed, well equipped kitchen, internet, private baths and a roof top covered deck with a view of the waterway. There was always a nice breeze on that deck. After a long day of island touring with a naturalist, we were very happy with the meals prepared by our house lady. The tours recommended by Paul were just excellent. We have traveled extensively and must say, the Galapagos measured up to be a most unusual vacation in terms of what we saw and experienced. I would recommend the house for any group and would also note the water taxi you have to take over to the main town to access most restaurants and shopping, is just a short, inexpensive ride available all hours. You do sometimes need to be a bit agile to get on and off the taxis though 74 and 77 year olds didn't have a problem. The house is a short walk down a tree lined path that continues to the Finch Bay hotel and a small beach. Paul gave us excellent advise on a number of things and also is a great tour guide.

“Clean and comfortable property with a great owner”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2012

We arrived at Mimosa after staying for a week on Isabella and it was a breath of fresh air. The friendly housekeeper was there to greet us and let us in and Paul also came by to greet us. The house was clean, modern, and comfortable. The housekeeper, Maritsa, keeps the place sparkling and will also prepare food and fresh juice for you for a nominal charge. We had her make OJ and Passion Fruit juice which were both excellent. She also prepared a meal for us one evening with chicken and a mushroom sauce. It was absolutely delicious. Paul is also a guide and took us on a nice guided trip of the highlands as well as the Darwin Research Station where he also works. The only way to get to town is via short water taxi at the Finch Bay dock. The cost for the taxi is minimal, but the process does cause you to plan your trips to town a little bit more. I would definitely recommend Mimosa to anyone looking for a clean, modern place to stay on Santa Cruz. The fact that both Paul and Maritsa are both great people is a bonus.
