“Aloha Cottage is paradise in upcountry!”

Reviewed 28 May 2013

My husband of 31 years and I spent 2 weeks in the cottage, and loved it. We are beyond the age of spending our vacation on the beach, so upcountry was perfect for us. We definitely visited the beach, but found so many interesting places to visit in addition. I highly recommend the aloha Cottage, and particularly for newly weds! The location and seclusion are perfect. The setting is calming and serene. I loved the intoxicating spicy/floral scent as you come up the steps. Kristin is just a phone call away if you need her, but absolutely does not intrude on your privacy in any way. My only suggestion would be to install some vertical blinds, not only for a little added privacy, but also to block out some of the afternoon sun. If our future travels bring us back to Maui, the cottage would be our first choice.

“Perfect romantic getaway- exactly what we needed.”

Reviewed 23 Mar 2013

We stayed at aloha Cottage for our 10th anniversary and wow! I cannot say enough about how perfect this place is! We had been to Maui before and stayed at a hotel on the beach. We wanted to try something different this time and It was such a different experience to have the privacy, peace and respite of a cottage that is away from the crowds. We chose this cottage because of the soaking tub and the cool architecture, but once we got there it had everything we needed. Full kitchen, barbecue, and a huge king size bed that was more comfortable than our bed at home. There is also a double shower and the bathroom has a dual vanity. There are lounge chairs on the lanai and also a little breakfast table--so nice to be outdoors with nothing but the sounds of birds in the mornings. We loved aloha Cottage and definitely won't wait another 10 years to come back!

“Beautiful getaway but a few complaints”

Reviewed 14 Mar 2013

The cottage was a beautiful getaway. I loved the kitchen, the double head shower, the spacious deck and tub, and just the beauty of the whole cottage and its surroundings. The reason for the 3 stars is because there were a few things that I did not like. The first is that we noticed that the owners came to the cottage when we were not there at least two different times. The second time there was a key left in the door by mistake. We wouldn't have minded them coming in if they would have called, but it felt very much like an invasion of our privacy since we knew nothing about it and there is no service provided, i.e. no reason there should be anyone coming in the cottage. The second thing I didn't care for is that the cottage is far away from many of the activities we took part in. We drove at least an hour each way to get to the beach and most of our other activities each day. This place would be perfect if you just want to camp out and not go anywhere. Most of the resorts sit right on the beach and are close to all your activities. Lastly, it's a small complaint, but there was a very strong smell in the cottage, almost like incense. We didn't care for it. I hate to give a bad rating on the cottage because it was beautiful. It has such a unique design, beautiful foliage surrounding it, and was more private than a normal motel room would have been. The owners did offer to give any advice if we wanted it when we called about the key in the door. However, the invasion of the cottage without our knowledge and the long drives through winding roads each day did not make a lasting impression. If we ever went again I would mostly likely stay on the beach.

Response from the owner We are so glad you enjoyed the beauty and seclusion of the cottage! While some people do enjoy being right on the beach, that comes with the tradeoff of so many other people being on the beach and losing the element of privacy and seclusion. For that reason we are a very popular honeymoon and anniversary spot. Many of our guests do choose to drive to activities, and on Maui everything is spread out, so you can always expect to drive half an hour or more...unless you stay in a tourist area and do the activities only in that area. We are centrally located so that is a plus for guests who want to explore the entirety of the island, and the seclusion supports those who want to enjoy lazy days in the company of one another. It is because we honor the complete privacy of our guests that we do not enter the cottage area for any repairs while guests are staying with us, unless of course it is an emergency. February and March are our busiest months, so it can be difficult to care for the cottage at the level we feel is important when the cottage is fully booked for months on end! We always communicate with guests when repairs need to happen, but at times guests are on adventures out of cell phone range and cannot be reached. We also take the security of our guests very seriously. The property is secured with a gated entry, and there is a safe in the cottage for storing any valuables. However, we have never had any problems with any breach of security, as our property is secluded off of the main road within a rural area.

“Serene, Private Hideaway”

Reviewed 7 Mar 2013

This is a lovely, secluded cottage - perfect for individuals who want privacy and quiet. The cottage has all the basic amenities including cable tv, laundry facilities and a hot tub outside on the patio. It is about a 10-15 minute drive into the local village where there are a few art galleries, restaurants and some really nice little shops that offer home furnishings, clothing, jewelry, etc. If you drive an additional 10 minutes, you will find a somewhat larger village with more restaurants, a health food store and a beach. This beach is good for people who like surfing activities as it has waves, but I think it is too rough for small children to safely enjoy. Be aware that driving to other attraction areas around Maui can take anywhere from 45 - 75 minutes (that's just how the island is). Anyways, if you want a quiet, serene hideaway with the best night time star watching you will ever experience, this is it.

“The most romantic, secluded, lovely vacation spot ever!”

Reviewed 4 Mar 2013

Imagine this: you walk up a winding staircase encased with foliage to arrive at your own private treehouse cabin - a tottaly unique one room cottage with a skylight's view of the stars from your bed, a gorgeous kitchen and bathroom, an outdoor porch and hot tub, and carved wood and luxurious detail everywhere. The place comes stocked with cooking equipment and linens and knowledgable hosts you'll never see unless you want to. and and your neighbors? There are none. You're ensconced in your own private hillside getaway. This place blew my mind. It's beautiful, romantic, private, immaculate and perfectly appointed. I can't imagine anyplace better for a romantic getaway. We will come back every year!

“A week in paradise”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2013

This was my first visit to Maui and I couldn't have been more pleased with my choice to stay at aloha Cottage. The property is secluded, quiet & gorgeous. The cottage is upscale, clean & beautiful. The kitchen is fully stocked which is very important to me. The outdoor tub on the lanai is heaven - nothing like soaking in a hot tub every evening in paradise. I was lucky enough to have a full moon for company! The owners were available to answer any questions I had, to offer suggestions only a local would know and yet they were very respectful of my privacy. The location upcountry is perfectly situated for peace, quiet & fresh air. It was easy to make daytrips to other locations on the island. Also close to the best natural food store on the island, Mana Foods in Paia.

“Peace and quite”

This is a private peaceful place with everything you need to feel relaxed. My husband and I are used to it being quiet in the evenings and the cottage did not disappoint us. The outside tub was a wonderful relaxing treet. It is a beautiful and different part of the island to enjoy..cooler days and evenings then we are used to living near Lahaina. The owners have done a very nice job in making this cottage feel special...but complete.

“A fabulous treat.”

Reviewed 2 Feb 2012

The Thai Cottage was a lovely zen-like experience and a total change from the West and South beaches of Maui. We appreciated the thoughtful ammenties which supplied us with everything we needed. Really enjoyed the soaking tub, both morning and night. Be prepared for a windy 3 mile drive out of Makawa, but worth the drive.
