“Amazing place for outdoor activities with kids!”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2013

We (mom, dad, 4yo, 1yo + grandmom) stayed at the Tryfan Cottage during the autumn half term 2013 (Sat-Fri). We could not have hoped for a more functional accomm/base, nicer setting and friendlier host! Louise & Rosie met us upon arrival late night. The cottage itself is fully equipped including the kitchen. Based on previous experience we took some kitchen utensils with us (grater, caffetiere, cling-film, aluminium folio, salt/pepper, etc) but all of it was there. The same for towels, bedlinen etc. 2 bedrms upstrs worked well and the cottage is warm. Kids were happy to have rosie-the-dog, the horses, hens sheep around. The cottage is ideally located for exploring Snowdonia and surroundings. Its about 5min walk to the Tryfan Highland railway stop (must for anyone visiting the area!). C.10min drive to Caernarfon (nice castle and town centre). We did another train ride around the lake in Llanberris (30min away). Unfort didn't get tickets for the Snowdon train but then most/all trains to the summit were cancelled due to the weather. The slate museum is good for kids and adults alike. Halloween decos & activities made both the ride and slate museum v memorable! We spent 2 days touring anglesey: 1-day visiting the South (?) Stack (didnt spot any seals or puffins but nxt time) & walking on the hills followed by some cakes in Beaumaris! 1-day spent walking on Newborough beach, forrest as picking mussels during low-tide that we ate for supper that evening. One evening we smoked trout on Louise's BBQ! The immediate surroundings of the cottage are nice for walks (the slate path). Good idea to have waterproofs, good footwear (wellies or walking boots) and slippers for indoors. The only downside of the cottage is the small dining/kitchen area but it worked for 5. We had a v nice week and will def be back. We were there in Oct and can only imagine how it is during the summer. List of things to do next time: sea fishing & mount snowdon! p.s. people are v friendly in the area

“Cosy cottage in great location”

Reviewed 11 Feb 2012

We had a great time in the cottage in September 2011. We enjoyed the circular countryside walks from the cottage (a few walks had been detailed by the owner), with great views down to Caernarfon castle and the coast. There are lovely views from the cottage itself and it's nice to the Welsh Highland Railway go past across the field opposite.

“Peaceful retreat”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2011

Louise was very helpful. The cottage looks small from the outside but is surprisingly roomy inside. tastefully fitted out ,could not think of anything else that was needed. Beautifull setting with lovely views, very peacefull broken only by the puffing of the local steam train a few fields away. What more could you ask for.

“Pleasant stay away from it all”

Cosy converted barn cottage. Great for getting away from it all for a few days. Louise (owner) was very friendly and helpful. Very pleasant stay.

“Superb cottage in remote setting”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2011

Modern clean cottage with all facilities. Remote and quiet but accessible to tourist areas such as Snowdonia, Anglesey, Llandudno, Lleyn etc. Owner on hand for any enquiries. Good local pubs and restaurants, beaches, walks & railways recommended.

“Lovely cottage in rural location yet close to attractions”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2011

This is a lovely cottage with wonderful views with a remote feeling but not far from local services. The cottage was very clean and had everything you need for your stay. Furnished with practical up-to-date items. Very helpful owner on hand if you need anything. Very safe for younger children to play outside etc.

“Lovely comfortable peaceful cotttage with easy access to shops.”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2011

A lovely well presented cottage in a secluded location, with a local steam train passing nearby to take you to Caernarfon or Porthmadoc plus shops and pubs at the end of the lane. An ideal location! Even the beach at Dinas was deserted and sandy. The cottage was clean and comfortable and we received a very warm welcome from the owner. Excellent cottage to use as a base for exploring North Wales, walking, bird watching and for steam train fanatics. We found lots to do in the area for our young family and we will definately return to the cottage again. We loved it!

“We came back again as this place fully meets our expectations.”

Charming location with splendid views, very remote. House and kitchen well equipped, good beds (mattrasses and linen). Warm welcome, very well looked after.

“Beautiful surroundings, excellent barn conversion”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2011

Very good accommodation, all needs met. Surrounding area tranquil and spectacular. Good for walking, cycling, horse riding and steam railways. Close to Caernarfon and Snowdon. Helpful, friendly owner. Will certainly visit again.
