“GREAT HOME FOR A FAMILY CELEBRATION”

Reviewed 14 Mar 2017

We just returned from a 9 day visit to Oahu and stayed in this wonderful home. It was a perfect beach friendly house that was comfortable and nice for our extended family of 12 adults. Nancy and Bill were great communicators and were so respectful, being available if needed and giving us privacy as well. They even offered for us to come to their home to snorkel if we had trouble finding a clear beach because of the water quality from the rain. The house is essentially on the ocean. It has a slight decline to walk down to the beach, but our parents who are in their 80s did just fine with it. We wanted to know what the outside is like since pictures aren't necessarily available and I just want to say how perfect it is. The ocean/beach side has a nice grassy space, wonderful picnic table and outside dining table, so easily can eat outside while looking at the ocean waves. In the back is a covered deck that looks out to the beautiful mountains and large open grassy field. We had some rain and we still were able to eat meals outside in the back. The beach is a beautiful sandy beach that we were essentially the only ones on the beach most days. We saw a harbor seal warming on the sand, turtles in the water and even a sting ray that got washed ashore and a local was able to push it back into the water. We had some rain intermittently while we were there so the water wasn't clear until our last few days, and there was significant surf, which I think was because of the time of year and it did calm down the last day. There is quite a bit of coral in the water straight from the house, but there is sandy areas not far down the beach.. We woke up each morning to see the sunrise which was always so beautiful! The house was open floor plan, very clean, and the bedrooms are situated well. We had 12 people and had no trouble having a bed for everyone. There is 3 full bathrooms in the house and then a bathroom with outside access as well as a hot water outside shower to rinse the sand off They had really nice extras, such as great beach chairs, nice quality beach towels. They had boogie boards, snorkel gear, and even a couple surfboards. They had water shoes as well. The kitchen was well stocked, good quality and worked well with our big group all trying to cook and clean together. It was very private which is what we wanted, however you need to be prepared to drive about an hour to honolulu and many sight seeing activities. The North shore and Haleiwa is about 30 minutes away. There are many other beaches that are close to the house, easy to drive to, as well. The town of Laie is just a few minutes away, which is where the Polynesian Cultural Center is located. Kahuku is the town just north of the house. Both have eating establishments and grocery shopping, Although slightly spendy. We stopped at Costco by the airport and that was more cost effective. The house also was very well stocked with condiments, spices etc. Make sure to check with Nancy at what is stocked before you shop. This home is really secluded and is more like country living, so with that there are plenty of chickens roaming about, and roosters waking you up in the morning. There was a sweet cat that visited often, which we named Luci! We never fed it or let it in, so not sure if it is owned by someone or just a stray. It really was exactly what we were looking for to vacation with this size group. We would definitely come back to stay if ever in Oahu again! THANK YOU NANCY AND BILL!

Response from the owner WOW ! What a review. Seems you covered pretty much all of it. Was a pleasure to be of service to you and your ohana and we look forward to seeing you again ! Aloha and ahui ho ! Nancy and Bill

“Large Vacation house with Beach access”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

My parents gifted my family and my 2 sisters and their families with a Hawaiian vacation. Their were 14 of us. The house and property was fabulous. Seemed very secluded and private, although there were houses on each side. Great big front yard with view of mountains from the large front porch where we ate breakfast and supper each day. Awesome view of the ocean from back porch where we drank our coffee while watching the sun rise and listening to the sound of ocean waves each morning. The beach behind the house was practically a private beach. The kids enjoyed using the body boards, surf boards and snorkeling all in our back yard! 4 full baths made getting ready easy with such a large group. Kitchen stocked with all the essentials. Great house for a large family vacation! Thanks, Bill, for going above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay!

“A dream come true for our family of 16”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2014

Our families’ initial reaction upon seeing the house was, "Dad, are you kidding? Do we really get to stay here?" Indeed we stayed at this marvelous house and location for two wonderful weeks. It was everything the listing said it would be and more. Frankly, the pictures cannot do justice to this house and location. This was our long awaited family vacation with eight adults and eight children and we never felt crowded. Kids downstairs...adults slept upstairs. The amazing wrap around deck and patio served as our gathering place and dining room (we barbequed on the patio every evening). The front football sized yard was the kids play area, second only to the beach which was steps away. Most of the time, we had the beach exclusively to ourselves. The low tide excursion to Goat Island was a highlight. The kids played in the ocean every afternoon and evening. The outdoor showers kept the sand out of the house. Some of our party knew the island of Oahu only from the Honolulu side but the drive to the Northeast coast is amazingly lush and green with thick tropical foliage. It reminded us very much of the island of Kauai. The house is set back from the main road creating a quiet secluded almost remote feeling even though it is short drive to Shark's cove (amazing snorkeling) Turtle Bay and shopping. Our hosts Nancy and Bill were exceptional in their care and hospitality. They were responsive to our every request, although everything was so well prepared we only needed to call for trash pickup as is their protocol. As long time Hawaiian residents their suggestions of places to go and things to see were spot on! We spent some time getting to know them and by the time we left we felt like we had made lifetime friends. Final conclusion of the family, we need to make this house an annual event. Thank you Bill, Nancy and Ohana.

“An idyllic and comfortable experience”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2013

We were a party of 11 friends in our late 20's, who were coming over from the UK to attend our friend's wedding. We stayed for 7 nights in august 2013. This is a really beautiful place to stay - near the North Shore, hidden down a little dirt track, and then across the massive lawn you can see the impressive property. The other side, there is a lovely garden that backs on to a very quiet, long, and beautiful beach, which is basically your own for the week. Nancy was immensely helpful - very prompt in communication, comprehensive in providing information, and made everything very convenient for the duration of the stay. The key was in a coded lockbox at the property, and there were minimal cleaning commitments required of us at the end of our stay, communicated to us via an information folder left for us at the house. Thus, we did not actually need to meet Nancy for the duration of the stay, and did not get any interruptions from cleaners or maintenance people. And the deposit has been sent back before I even asked! The home was spacious, well equipped, fairly luxurious, and comfortable. Basically I cannot fault the location, service or the home in any way, and I would like to thank Nancy again for a wonderful week.

“Amazing week in paradise!!!”

We just returned from our amazing Hawaiian holiday. We were able to enjoy our vacation with all our children and grandchildren. This home is the perfect family home. It is spacious , clean, and large enough that everyone can have their own space. When we pulled up to the property, I was amazed at how pictures can not describe the location this house is on. The beach is amazing, private, quiet and clean. We enjoyed the backyard, the grass made a wonderful play area for our little grand babies who were not real sure they loved the sand. The covered deck was so wonderful, when the occasional rainstorm hit, we could still enjoy being outside. You can not go wrong with this rental!!! We researched a lot before renting this home, and it was everything and more than what was described. I might add that Bill and Nancy were amazing to work with, thank you for your visit and for making our stay so enjoyable. My only regret with the house was that we didn't rent it for a month. Beautiful, clean, quiet!!

“Perfect Hawaiian Vacation”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2013

What can we say? From beginning to the end everything was great! We had 3 families in the house. 2 of those had 4 kids each ranging in ages of 7 to 18. The house was perfect. Big enough for all to gather and roam, but you had your own little spots for privacy. You have anything you need in the house itself. Outside, the yard is beautiful with beautiful views! The backyard is huge, plenty of room to run. The front is even better. Lots of seating to sit back and watch the waves! The beach was the best part! The kids hated to leave. Not to often can you actually walk out of your house and right down to the beach. Had the beach to ourselves the whole time, which was awesome! Grocery store and shrimp trucks were not very far away 10 to 15 min. It was about an 1 hour away from the Waikiki area and only about 30 min from North Shore activities. All in all, there is really nothing bad I can say about this rental. We all really enjoyed ourselves and were sad to go! Thanks again, Nancy!

Response from the owner Aloha K Mc. and Ohana Sounds like you all had a really GREAT vacation, spending lot's of quality family time at the home and the beach. Yes, the home does offer alot of space for all to be comfortable and still have a little hide away for the quite time we all need after a full day out and about the Island. One of the nicest things about this house is it's access to the secluded beach. It is not uncommon to be the only person within eyesight. So glad you all enjoyed yourselves, and we hope to see you next year ! Ahui ho (until we meet again), ALOHA ! Nancy and Ohana

“Best of Both Worlds”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2012

Our stay at this home in the quaint town of Kahuku was the perfect place for our family getaway. In fact, this is our second year renting out the five-bedroom estate. It's just the best of both worlds-the front of the house overlooks the majestic mountain range, while the back of the house boasts the most surreal views of the Pacific Ocean. The home is equipped with everything for your family's stay: snorkeling gear, beach towels, beach chairs, a full kitchen and a large patio with a barbecue. During our stay, we alternated nights out at the town's local favorites (such as Kahuku Grill-a must-try for their coconut shrimp!) with home-cooked meals. One of our favorite aspects about the home (sometimes there's too many to count) is its nearly panoramic views of the ocean. Large windows in the family area, and in nearly every bedroom, offer ocean-views at every angle from the back of the house. It's hard to side-step, however, the fact that this home is right on the oceanfront-just a trot down from the backyard leads you to sandy white beaches and rolling waves. In august, when our family came, the beach was nearly deserted, giving us pretty much our own private beach for the week. Just a short walk north, however, will bring you to another lovely beach that's just perfect for children (the beach by the house, while absolutely great for snorkeling, does have a few rocks by the water's edge). This beach has virtually no rocks and flat sand that stretches nicely into the ocean, giving small children a chance to play freely where the waves hit the sand. It's safe to say that your stay at this vacation home will be an experience like no other. The home is located in a very quiet area, pleasing those who yearn for a little serenity, yet only a short drive from livelier spots, such as the North Shore, Turtle Bay, Lanikai Beach and Waikiki. Everyone will feel the 'aloha' at this special spot in the Hawaiian Islands-just like we did!

“The perfect place for a big family reunion”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2012

We had a family reunion of 10 adults and 7 youngsters (ages 17 down to 5) in July, 2012. We took care of beds for the littlest grandkids by renting mini air mattresses from www.travelbabees.com (picked them up in the Kaimuki district on the way from the airport to Nakapakea). Nancy and Bill kindly provided a big air mattress for the 17 year old, and also provided a large cooler on the back porch which housed the "adult beverages" for the beer and wine drinkers in the crowd. The house is awesome and with the additional sleeping mattresses was perfectly sized for a group of 17. The kitchen is very well equipped and our "world class" male chefs were pleasantly surprised that the house came furnished with excellent cutlery. The huge back porch was the ideal place for family dinners cooked by our chefs. The extra huge back yard gave us the ability to string up a volleyball net and play both volleyball and badminton. And the hammock at the far end of the football field sized back yard was a hit with the younger grandchildren. And the beach in front of the house is ideal for young kids not quite ready for big surf. The parents of the 2 youngest kids signed them up for swim lessons at Gunstock Ranch, which is a long walk or short drive across Kam Highway from the driveway leading down to Nakapakea. We recommend getting your fruits and veggies at the Kahuku Land Farms stand almost directly across from Turtle Bay Resort. Different family members hiked Diamond Head, swam with the turtles near the tide pools north of Nakapakea, visited the Dole Plantation (a little touristy, but fun anyway), and had the mandatory shaved ice in Haleiwa. We had a little typical Hawaiian liquid sunshine, one Portuguese Man 'O War sting, cussed at the nocturnal and very noisy Shearwater birds, and saw (but avoided any stings) one scorpion and one centipede. It's all a part of being in a tropical climate. All in all a great house and a great place for a family get-together.

“Best Family Vacation ever!”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2012

What a beautiful home, right on the beach! There were 12 of us (5 children) and the accommodations worked out great for us. The beach is right out the back door. And the ocean right there is beautiful. All of the children were able to swim in the water with no problems. Many of the adults and children enjoyed using the boogie boards and we had rented a 2 person kayak that was great for paddling around. Each day that we were on the beach we were surprised at how few people there were. If we ever make it back to Oahu this is the house we will choose to stay in again! Just don't forget your water shoes, there are a fair amount of rocks in the bay, which also makes for nice snorkeling.

“Scot's Ohana Vacation”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2012

Aloha Nancy & Bill. I believe this is our 7th year renting beach houses from you and of course it was awesome as usual. This is an excellent beach house for our growing ohana and we all love staying there each year. The front yard is sooo big it allows the kids to play around and do whatever they please without any worries about cars since it is a private road. Baseball, football, bocce balls, chase, etc. We especially love the outside lanai area with the large picnic table where we have our ohana meals and the view of the valley reminds us that we're on vacation even though we live on the opposite side of the island. Of course the ocean right outside of the beach house has been so fun for the kids to surf and fish. They especially liked exploring Goat Island and all it has to offer. Our yearly ohana vacation is never disappointing staying there. Mahalo again...

Response from the owner Aloha Scot. Always a pleasure to have you and your Ohana stay with us and we enjoy seeing how the keiki have grown. I'm sure they enjoyed the "wide open spaces" of this particular property and we look forward to seeing you all again this year ( your dates are already reserved). Aloha and ahui ho ! Nancy and Bill
