“Great property; close to everything.”

Great property. Close to everything you will need to enjoy Port Douglas, and the surrounding area. Very friendly / helpful hosts, with excellent communication.

“Time to Chill Out”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2015

We just spent a week at the Coral Sea Beach House and it couldn’t have been more relaxing. We have two teenage children so this spacious home gave everyone the room to chill out. Each room has a huge balcony and the area by the pool is great for enjoying breakfast or a relaxed dinner at home. It’s just a few minutes’ walk to four mile beach, a local tavern and a restaurant we enjoyed. Highly recommended.

“A tropical paradise”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2015

We had the pleasure of spending a week at Jay and Astrid's Coral Sea Beach House. They are gracious hosts - readily available and incredibly helpful when needed but very discrete if privacy is desired. The home is situated in a lovely, quiet neighborhood about a 10 minute drive from downtown Port Douglas. Access to Four Mile Beach is literally across the street and is safe and easy to get to. The home is beautifully appointed, immaculately clean and has a wonderful swimming pool. Imagine floating on your back in the pool in the pleasant night-time air and gazing up at the milky way. The house has a great kitchen with all the modern conveniences (we love to cook). There are two excellent food stores about a 10 minute drive from the house. Can't say enough about the place and the hosts. To top it all, Jay took us on a snorkeling adventure to the Barrier Reef on his private charter boat (ABC Scuba Diving). I recommend renting a car. There's lots to do and see in the surrounding area. Thanks Jay, Astrid and Zoe. Regards from Warren & Gretchen, Santa Cruz, California.

“Paradise Found - exceptionally clean, family friendly, luxury, home from home”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2014

My family and I stayed in Jay & Astrid's Coral Sea Beach House for just over a fortnight in October 2014 (our ages: 48, 46, 19, 19 & 16). The property was easy to find and is tucked away at the far end of a residential cul-de-sac so was very peaceful. We arrived unexpectedly early but this wasn't a problem for the owner Jay who greeted us warmly and gave us a guided tour of the property upon arrival and then returned to his own home which was behind and directly linked to this house - this was fab as it meant that if we had any questions, queries or problems he or his wife Astrid were on hand quickly - but we didn't need to bother them at all as everything was just right for the whole time we were there. The house was spotlessly clean and basic advice about leaving our shoes outside the door, although at first seemed frightening at the thought of spiders setting up home during the night in the toes of my shoes, but proved good advice to keep the sand that inevitably ends up in all your shoes being spread throughout the house and Jay quickly put our fears to rest that spiders settling into our shoes for the night was something we didn't really have to worry about. The three double bedrooms were indeed large and very comfortable (even though we were reluctant to use the mezzanine level in the third bedroom as the stairs were a bit steep and awkward to get down). The floor-to-ceiling mirrored wardrobes in each of the bedrooms were large and it was wonderful to have enough storage for our belongings due to the length of our stay. As Brits we decided to cook a full Sunday roast and found the kitchen had everything we needed plus there was a separate dining room, table and chairs linked by a serving hatch to the kitchen/utility room. The utility room with washer-dryer was a godsend to our two 19 years olds (our daughter and her friend) as they are travelling Australia for a year and had lots of laundry to catch up on before they carried on their adventures. There was a drying room on the first floor to dry clothes but found that their damp clothes took a long time to dry out in there. The living area is furnished with a rattan-style sofa with two separate arm chairs. I think the property would benefit of having a larger more comfy seating area as the five of us could all be seated but it wasn’t very comfortable. The outside area was wonderful with your own private and security-gated salt-water swimming pool which, the same as everything else, was spotlessly clean. It was deep enough for my 16 year old to stand up in so that put my mind at rest that I didn’t have to keep an eye on the pool 24/7. The garden was small but functional and beautifully kept, ideal for sunbathing. We loved the outside BBQ and seating area and made the most of this for our stay as eating out in Port Douglas can be a bit pricey. Jay gave us some good recommendations of places to eat and drink and we followed all of them up and weren’t disappointed. At the end of the road we found a pathway which led us directly onto Four Mile Beach which was absolutely stunning. We were warned about stingers in the water, but were told by Jay that it really wasn’t the season for them so we could relax a little more but still to be vigilant. We sat in the warm, clear waters up to our waists and were delighted that small stingray would swim around you and were very friendly indeed. We walked one evening from the house, across the beach into Macrossan Street which was the main thoroughfare in Port Douglas and it probably took us a good hour or more, so if you do intend walking into town, do it well before the sun goes down as it’s a longer walk than it first looks. All in all, Coral Sea Beach House is a fantastic place and the perfect base for exploring Northern Queensland and the beautiful beaches and rainforests which surround it. Jay and Astrid were helpful, friendly (Jay has a cracking sense of humour) and they have a holiday home which I’m very envious of. I would highly recommend staying here and also take advantage of Jay’s scuba diving and snorkelling services – ABC Scuba Diving. All in all a beautiful place to stay - highly recommended. Thank you Jay and Astrid - you made our Australian experience unforgetable.

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. You were lovely guests and we are glad to hear you had such a great time! We entirely share your views on the lounge. We have never been happy with it either, but unfortunately it was all we could get for a quick replacement for the previous lounge that had been damaged not long before your stay. We have replaced it now with a new comfy leather lounge. We hope to welcome you again and send our best wishes for the start of the festive season. Jay and Astrid

“Perfect GBR vacation”

Reviewed 28 May 2014

I booked three days of scuba diving with Jay and decided to stay at his beach rental house which made our vacation truly memorable. This is our first trip to Australia, so staying in a house next to the owner adds so much more local flavors to our trip. The house is clean and meet all our needs. The owner is friendly, helpful and entertaining.

“Peaceful excellence”

Reviewed 25 May 2014

Coral Sea Beach House is a haven of tranquility. It is spacious, light and airy. All modern amenities are provided and all fixtures and fitings are of high quality, including the kitchen and bathrooms. Our bed was very comfortable. The air conditioning/fans worked well. On arrival, everything was spotlessly clean. The house is located at the head of a quiet cul-de-sac, only a two minute walk (others say five, but may be slower walkers!) from 4 mile beach which offers a vast expanse of largely unpopulated sand. Astrid and Jay were pefect hosts - always available for support but not intrusive. Overall, we enjoyed a very peaceful, relaxing stay in Port Douglas. PD has seen some development over the years but none has spoilt this wonderful small town. Coral Sea Beach House more than met our expectations and we would thoroughly recommend it.

“Home of Luxury”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2014

What consists a luxury home when you are on vacation? One that offers you every amenity you find in a five star hotel...and Jay and astrid's rental home was nothing short of fabulous! First test is cleanliness and this house was spotless. Second test is livable space especially for three couples with very different views of what constitutes livable. We all agreed this home was perfect! From the modern, comfortable decor to the kitchen fully stocked with any appliances or utensils we needed. Jay's photographs of underwater sea creatures complements the openness of the living spaces. Third test, location. The proximity of the house was excellent. A 5 minute walk to Four Mile Beach, rated as one of the most spectacular beaches in the world. Less than 10 minute car ride into Downtown to the marina for scuba and snorkeling trips, restaurants and shopping. Better yet - take the day and spend it by the pool! The landscape surrounding the pool gives a hint of natural aromatherapy. The privacy of the house offers a peaceful, serene setting. Each bedroom was spacious with ample closet space. As each bedroom has its own balcony, the couples spent time on their balconies reading, having morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. One of the few reasons to leave this wonderful home is to go with Jay on his scuba and snorkeling tours. Jay is a master diver and provides personalized trips to the Great Barrier Reef. Come and stay at this lovely home with very attentive and welcoming hosts!

“Clean, Modern Living!”

Wonderful spacious property. Clean and bright with a lovely swimming pool to relax in too. Five minutes drive from the main town this is a lovely self catering property with high quality modern facilities. Drying room which is excellent for washing and soggy towels. Five minutes walk from Four Mile Beach it is in a lovely quiet location. The owner lives next door and couldn't have been more helpful. He runs a diving business too called aBC Scuba Diving which my brother and I and my two children made use of. Great experience. Well worth it.

“Outstanding space with modern accessories and indoor outdoor flo”

They say if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. But Coral Sea House is the exception. Grandfather and wife enjoyed pampering two adult daughters and father of 2 year old grandson for 9 fabulous nights.Little archie loved the onsite pool and learned to swim underwater! On arrival you will recognise the smart, clean and modern lines of the house you have seen in the photos on the website. Not yet two years old when we visited (March 2014), the house is cleverly designed for tropical living, with the bedrooms upstairs each sheltered by its own generous verandah, and the pool having its own shower and toilet, with immediate access to both outdoor and large indoor living areas. Kitchen is well-appointed with quality appliances, while a drying room upstairs deals with soggy towels. Beach is a five minute walk, with a pub and a restaurant at similar distance. Otherwise, you will want a car for shopping and to enjoy the attractions of Port Douglas and the district. Our hosts were very attentive and super helpful. Astrid even made two trips to drive us into town with our luggage. Jay was thoughtful and kind throughout all our communications. We highly recommend this house and would have a repeat visit at a heartbeat!

We had a fantastic stay. The house was spotlessly clean, modern and spacious. Jay was very welcoming and gave us great advice on all the amazing things to do and see in and around Port Douglas. There were 6 of us staying and we enjoyed the beautiful pool and barbies every night. The house was only a few minutes walk to the beach and was in a lovely quiet location. Couldn't fault it and would definitely recommend it. We're looking forward to going back!
