“William, our host, knocked himself out for us and made it very special.”
William was a superb host, starting with the delicious meal he prepared when we arrived and continuing through the (unexpected) fresh pastries and bread for breakfast every morning, the excellent written guide materials and tips for fun events in and around St. Remy and the suggested restaurants and reservations he took much pride in arranging. He was never officious or in the way, and his time and advice, verbal and written, were invaluable. The accomodations were extremely comfortable and well provisioned and the landscaping outside was beautiful and the grounds very clean. The location, within easy walking distance of St. Remy, was perfect. I would not hesitate to return.
“Relaxing, glorious, summer-y week in Provence!”
Completely wonderful week with 2 other couples. The weather was most cooperative, and William guided us unobtrusively every step of the way. William has the uncanny knack of being there with a big smile when we needed him (for guidance, dinner reservations, breakfast croissants and more) and not when not. He was the IDEAL concierge. We quickly felt as if we knew exactly what to do for maximum enjoyment!
Response from the owner Thanks for your very artful leadership of your band of "confederates," here on "yankee" soil. We enjoyed your presence here in our PROVENCE PARADISE "hamlet" which is a good sign. When the host enjoys his own party, that means that the party was a grand success. And, indeed, it was. Your comment about "discreet presence" is music to my ears! We try very hard to be there when we're needed but to let you "explore" on your own, i.e., get lost, find your way back home, discover new sights of interest, bring back funny stories, etc.
The best thing about Provence Paradise is its owner, William. He greets guests when they arrive, gives handouts, and goes over things to do and places to eat in the area. He delivers pastries every morning, makes dinner reservations, recommends and arranges tours, gives guests a phone to call him directly for emergencies, makes a brief visit every afternoon to check on everyone, and is there for every eventuality. He is the best, his recommendations were all first-rate, and I would give him even more than 5 stars, if that were possible. La Tour has a full kitchen, living room, and terrace in addition to an upstairs bedroom and small bath with shower. It was clean and comfortable, but not plush, so I would give it, as a structure, 4 stars. I would certainly stay here again and would recommend this rental, particularly to those visiting Provence for the first time and those who would appreciate William's help.
Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to write your Guest Comments. We are sure that others who are still in the planning stage for a trip to Provence in the Fall of this year will find your ideas very useful. In the Spring and Fall, when our travellers are mostly adults, questions always arise about opening hours and breadth of choice of activities. You and your group did a little of everything, which proves that the choices were abundant and satisfying. Hope you will come back to see us!
“Fabulous vacation spot!”
This was more than we could have imagined. The accommodations were wonderful. The owner went above and beyond to make us welcome and help us with everything- from daily itineraries to restaurant suggestions.
Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to write! It was our pleasure to have the three of you with us for week. Glad that our suggestions of daily itineraries and restaurants made such a positive impact on your stay in Provence! Now that you are "veterans," we invite you to think seriously about coming back next year to help us celebrate our 10th Anniversary AND our debt-free status. 2015 will be a big year around here!
“Provence Paradise is not just a place to stay, it is an entire Provence experience.”
The photos on the web site do not capture the charm, warmth, and quality of the experience at Provence Paradise. Spending a week in Provence with my two sisters was made extra special because of the welcoming warmth of William - our host. He spent many hours guiding us as we planned our days of exploring the region. He met us every morning with warm croissants, maps and helpful hints to make our day special. And checked in every afternoon to make sure our day went well. Such fond memories that will never be forgotten.
Response from the owner And, every moment we spent guiding and encouraging you to explore Provence is depth was a pleasure for us, too! Remember that as "veterans," we want you to partipate in a big way in our 10th Anniversary celebrations, which we're busy planning for 2015.
“A true holiday haven”
William literally rescued our extended family group when we unexpectedly found ourselves without accommodation. We wish we had found and booked La Tour de la Girouette in the first place! The welcome from William was first class and his attention to detail throughout our stay was second to none. The house was superb with everything that you could need including copious amounts of kitchen equipment, towels and fresh flowers. The gardens are lovely, with many seats and a lovely private dining area. We all loved the pool and the jacuzzi and spent many hours in both! William is knowledgeable and a marvellous host especially when he appears with fresh bread and pastries each morning - not to mention the delicious meal that was waiting for us on arrival. We would not hesitate to recommend these properties and can not think of anything that we did not like - it is the first holiday let that we would return to! We were a mixed age/sex family group and this property met all of our needs and wishes - what more can we say?
Response from the owner Your visit to PROVENCE PARADISE was pure serendipity-- an unexpected, very pleasant and memorable event. Sure, we wish you had chosen to stay at our "hamlet" right from the start; but better late than never! Come again next year, if you can. We would be happy to have your mix of family and friends among our guests in 2015.
“Every day was Christmas Day.”
This is my second visit to Provence Paradise. I came three years ago, as a widow of one year. This year, I came back with the same couple I went with three years ago, but brought a fifty year old widow friend, as well. Last time I had stayed in a different home while my couple friend stayed in La Tour. This time, I stayed in the upstairs bedroom. For two weeks, the bedroom became the perfect sanctuary for me. Our group worked out a great routine. Every morning we'd meet downstairs for coffee/tea and wait for William to knock on our door with fresh croissants. William gave us some great suggestions of places to go and things to see. We did quite a few of them. He gave restaurant suggestions, parking suggestions, road information, etc. We rented a car and I drove, exclusively, this year. It was easy and fun. I learned to LOVE the roundabouts! We learned that getting to the supermarche was easy! Each night we'd make a simple meal. One of our favorites was to make croque madame! It's easy! Each day brought new adventures. We kept saying, "It can't get any better than this!" but, every day IT DID! We saw unbelievable Roman ruins. We saw fabulous things in the museums. Everything was so touchable it blew our minds! I touched it ALL! We shopped and the shopkeepers put up admirably with our franglais. By the time I left, one of them would greet me with kisses! We took a tour of the grounds of the asylum that inspired some of Vincent Van Gogh's greatest work. You can still see what he saw! We came away with a strong respect for Van Gogh. We had no idea! We saw the Luminaire show where you are in a big, cave like structure and famous art work is projected on the walls. It moves....and it is accompanied with music. Awe inspiring! I tell you very seriously: every day was like Christmas Day! Every night, we'd begin to yawn at 9:30 after dinner and wine. I would go upstairs to my little private retreat and post my photos on Facebook. I took my facebook community with me in France. They enjoyed it all, too! My friend and I fell in love with Santons, so William taught us all about them and how to choose good ones, then he took us to some french flea markets and bargained with the people to acquire them for us. Who does that? William goes above and beyond. Always. Count on it. William is one of the most fascinating, brilliant and visionary men I have ever met. He'd probably hate me to say so, but he's like Walt Disney, imagining this little Hamlet. So often he would enter with his tray of croissants and say, "Just wanted to tell you a couple of extra things about your plans today and then I'll get out of your hair." The fact was that we couldn't get enough of William. All of us wanted to sit with him and just listen. Every time he opens his mouth and shares of his life, you marvel and say, "Really? REALLY?" His stories are captivating....and they aren't even mentioned on the list of 'must do's,' but, trust me, he's the best thing about this magical, beautiful, serene hamlet. The only downside of the entire deal is that you will come home a wine, cheese, yogurt, cream, crepe, croque madame SNOB. We now know too much to accept mediocre! I tell all of my friends, now, to go see the sights of Paris. Paris has got 'em! Take, perhaps, three days, but then, take the TGV to Provence Paradise and relax for two weeks! I try to put it into words, but it takes more than I have...and I'm a writer. It's a serene, charming, warm, magical hamlet, with freshly delivered beignets and croissants coming to your individually decorated home daily, where you have an American safety net who can speak English, French, Spanish, and more. Sorry for the run on sentence, but it is my frustration in trying to capture a dream in words. Our group wouldn't think of going to Provence without William and Provence Paradise.
Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to write your comments. Didn't we have a great time together!?!? We enjoyed your company and were very glad all four of you chose to stay the full two weeks, because that gave you welcome "breathing space" between events in your busy exploration schedule. We repeat what we said when you pulled away from our driveway: Come again and/or send us other great folks just like YOU! Remember 2015 is a special year for all of us-- our 10th Anniversary and our "Mortgage Burning." Lots of interesting perks for "veteran" visitors like you. Get in touch with Stéphanie too; so she can set up a "courtesy hold" on the weeks you would like to reserve for next year. No obligation. We just want to be sure we save "your house" for your return visit.
“In 3 years of a lot of holidays whilst living in Europe, Provence paradise has been my favourite location.”
My holiday in Provence was made so truly enjoyable because we stayed with William in his most beautiful home la Tour. I spend about 8 weeks a year in rentals in Europe and this was truly my most favourite as it exceeded my expectations in every way with croissants in the morning, the most beautiful dinner on arrival and William even packed us a picnic upon our departure! But, I think that's not included for everyone - I think I was special! Now, that's a joke! William goes out of his way to make sure everyone feels special whether it's wine by the pool, an ice cream for the kids or just making sure your next day is well planned and he has made bookings for you where necessary. This was fantastic, particularly in a foreign country where you can waste so much time organising! A really special place and thank you again to all at Paradise Provence! Ps book early especially if you want the large house as that really is a place to behold! Restored to perfection and a real step back in time ....
Response from the owner We thanks you for your kind words and for your visit, filled with enthusiasm and energy. Hope your "Autralian jambouree" here at Provence Paradise was everythings you hoped it would be! Remember when it's gray and raining in Belgium, it's probably sunny and bright here in the south of France! Come back to see us, if only for a short stay! And, send us other great folks just like you!
“A million Thankyous”
We recently holidayed in France for a month, staying a week at a time at various places. Provence Paradise was the last before leaving for Spain, but a week was no where near enough time here. There is so much to see and do in very close proximity, and you will want to spend a lot of time just hanging around Provence Paradise. You can be as private or as social as you want. One couple we neither saw or heard from at all. But we joined others by the pool for drinks in the evening, did a cooking class with other guests, organized by William (a must do, so much fun, from shopping at the markets, to preparing and eating the scrumptious 3course meal) and chatting with other guests, again by the pool, while taking in the sun. The grounds of Paradise are very pretty, and beyond the boundry, an easy walk into the centre of town. Our house and setting, it's history, ( ask William ) is just as I immagined a typical French countryside experience to be, and then much more. The fresh flowers in my bedroom, exquisite linen, the obvious intention of William and his team, to make our stay with them, one we would never forget. William must be the kindest, most helpful man in all of France. He went to extraordinary trouble to help me with a problem I had, though by then, we were in Spain. So his kindness extends beyond his own domain. He took my young grandchildren to a farm, they would have gone anywhere with him. He was just there if you needed him for anything, but if you didn't want to see him or anybody at all, then you didn't need to. But for this Australian family, it was a welcome break from having to figure out everything for ourselves. Don't go to France without going to Provence Paradise!!!
Response from the owner You are most welcome, indeed. It was a pleasure to have all you Australians here with us... especially with all your energy and enthusiasm. What a memorable week we had with such an interesting mix of personalities and nationalities! Cooking together was a blast! You need to think seriously about coming back in 2015! We will be debt-free and celebrating our 10th Anniversary! Many special features and favors for those, like you, who have helped us build our family-business from literally "a pile of rocks, plus broken doors and windows on the side of a hill overlooking Saint Rémy de Provence." Writing your Guest Comments is also a part of helping future guests and our Team to find each other. We are sending out our special invitation for 2015 to the 135 "returnée families" we have gotten to know from around the world. We tell most guests: "Come again and/or send us other nice people just like you." And, they do!!! That is what we will be celebrating in 2015!
“June 2014 - Yet another great visit to Provence Paradise !”
Our family just returned home from a truly great week at Provence Paradise. For 2 of us, this was our 4th year staying at William's "hamlet" and as in all earlier visits we were always impressed with the personal care William heaped on us from the arrival dinner, in the fridge, to the daily breakfast pastries delivered to the door. For the other 4 in our group, this was their first visit to Provence and they loved being at Provence Paradise - both as an excellent base for getting to all the sights in Provence as well as the great pool and, not to forget, the house itself ! They were particularly impressed with the First Night's "ready to eat" dinner - especially the wonderful strawberry cake dessert. The youngest (ages 6 & 9) loved the pool - even though they have one at their home ! When several difficulties came up: French Train and Air Traffic Controllers strikes, William was at our door, sometimes twice a day, advising us of the latest in the strike situations and alternative travel arrangements we might want to consider. We DEFINITELY plan to be back next year !
