“Beautiful Surroundings”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

We stayed for a week whilst visiting relatives over the Easter break & arrived late having met traffic on the way up from the south. When we arrived, it was so helpful to see Keith unpacking our delivery shopping & putting it away for us.! We were also greeted with a welcome pack/milk/biscuits & to the kids delight - the Easter bunny had visited their bedrooms! Waking up to the peaceful countryside & breathtaking views are second to none & watching the lambs running around 10metres from our kitchen window was perfect. Couldn't fault the cottage - perfectly furnished & more than adequate kitchen facilities/utensils . We stayed in Cornmill & the kitchen area was perfect for family dinners & playing games once the kids were in bed! The farm is also large enough for a walk around - directly opposite you can walk up a hill & observe beautiful views within minutes. The kids loved running up & down the hill. Must also say the beds are the most comfy we have ever slept in! 6 wonderful nights sleep! Having also left something behind - jane kindly offered to return it to us - can't fault the service! Thank you for a lovely relaxing break- would recommend you to anyone with a young family or a couple.

Response from the owner Thank you for your comments, pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you all again in the future. Keith and Jane

“Great vacation cottage”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) from the States stayed for 6 nights and had a wonderful time. The cottage was clean, and spacious. Around the cottage were sheep, chickens and horses. Peaceful walks are right outside the door. The appliances, dishes and linens were all in great shape. The cottage is a short drive (less than half an hour from Durham) from many historic sites. Couldn't have been happier!

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us in Cornmill Cottage. We hope to seeing you all again in the future. I hope you had a pleasant journey home. Keith and Jane

An excellent location and facilities for adults and horses alike. Use of arena, fields and cross country course was excellent and our 8 horses were soon chilling in the fields and feeling very at home. Cottages were fabulous and very comfortable and well fitted out. Jane and keith couldn't do enough for us.

“Excellent - accomodation, views, friendliness of owners, ideal p”

We chose this cottage because it was ideal for us three; me, my husband, and our adult son who has disabilities. We visited Durham because my Dad came from there and we wanted to see the sights and catch up with cousins. Accomodation being all on one level was necessary for us and Keith was very helpful in making the bathroom floor extra safe. The cottage was homely and just the right size. Went to Durham Cathedral and Beamish and aydon Castle near Hadrians Wall; all good days out. The Pudding Basin pub recommended by our hosts was superb. Will definitely use Stowhouse when we return to Durham.

“Cornmill Cottage - An excellent location.”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2013

We had an a very enjoyable stay in Cornmill Cottage. It is in a beautiful location, and it was was great to see the sheep, chickens and horses from the windows and the garden seats outside the cottage, accompanied by the sound of curlews and other birds. The furnishings were very comfortable and of a high standard, and it was very clean. The beds were especially comfortable and we slept very well as it was lovely and quiet as well. Stowhouse Farm Cottages are a convenient place to stay while visiting beautiful countryside and picturesque towns and villages nearby. Keith and Jane were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.

“Wonderful week-end, great owners, great location, great eggs.”

Six of us stayed in Bluebell Cottage over three days so that we could visit Beamish open air museum for which you need 2 days. Our group consisted of myself, wife, brother, cousin & his wife + sister in law visiting from australia. Booking and gaining access went very smoothly. We were please to find that this cottage was exactly as described, very well fitted out, comfortable and overall excellent. The views and countryside was magnificent. The eggs were to die for and we consumed over 3 dozen in the 3 days. We will definitely visit again to walk in the beautiful countryside. I have recommended it to all my friends

“Great location in which to decompress with family”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2012

Cottage is great - well designed and well finished. We had family meals almost every night and enjoyed a great, relaxing 'farmhouse kitchen' experience with members of of our family that we don't get to send nearly enough time with. Do it - you wont regret it.

“Fantastic cottage in a great location”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2012

This is a lovely facility. Four cottages - we stayed in Cornmill Cottage and it was very nicely furnished, spacious and clean. Great for a family holiday - there is lots of space for kids to run around and there were sheep, horses, chickens and dogs around the farm which my girls enjoyed. The owners left some provisions for arrival - tea, coffee, biscuits, and a bottle of wine. Things like washing up liquid and toilet rolls were there too. Really recommend for a weekend break or holiday and there is lots of interest nearby. We visited Durham and also spent a couple of days at Beamish Museum which is only 25 min away.
