“Piece of Heaven.”
We were here for just 2 nights with our 7 month old. He really enjoyed looking at the trees, birds and the the little stream of water. More than than, he loved crawling in the house, seemed to like crawling here more than our home in Nashville. All in all this place is ideal for families, romantic getaway or adventure seekers. The great thing besides the location ( far from hustle and bustle of gatlinburg, cherokee etc) is that the house is truly a home. It feels like home and the owner has really tried to keep it that way. Loved the movie collection too. I wanna visit again but stay longer next time for sure.
Response from the owner Thank you for the review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and found the location to be a "Piece of Heaven". I feel the same way -- every time I come out here it still takes my breath away. Thank you for noticing and appreciating all the little things I do to make it feel like ‘home’. I do put a lot of attention and energy into creating an inviting, relaxing and enjoyable experience for my guests. I look forward to having you back again.
We had an extended stay at the cabin in winter, while we were both finishing big work projects, and it was indeed perfectly quiet and without any distraction. Since our stay fell over Christmas, we got a tree, and at night, with the lights on and the fireplace lit and the snow falling, it was a lovely winter wonderland. One day we drove half an hour north and hopped on a piece of the appalachian Trail, which is quite easily accessible from the cabin, and has several great walks in the area. Driving to and from the cabin itself was full of mountain views and scenery in any direction. Even during a two months' stay, we didn't really have any problems, and I wouldn't expect anyone else to, either; in any case, for any small thing, the property owner was extremely responsive if we ever needed her.
Response from the owner I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and were able to finish your work projects. The cabin and 7.5 acres property are perfect for a quiet 'back to nature' getaway and retreat. And when you want more, local activities and attractions are close enough to enjoy. Truly the best of both worlds - remote enough that you don't see neighbors, yet close enough to fully explore the area. I agree with you -- the mountain views and scenery, driving to and from the cabin, are wonderful. I can feel myself shift into relaxation every time we start getting close to the cabin.
“Peaceful, met all our expectations.”
Jean & Fred Cooper and family July 29 - Aug. 3, 2013 "We had a wonderful relaxing vacation with most of our family: two daughters, two sons-in-law, and five of our six grandchildren, from Ohio, Maine and Georgia. Thanks for providing such a beautiful, welcoming place. It suited us and our tastes perfectly. Thanks for your attention to details and for your thoughtful preparation for children. If we are ever able to pull off such a vacation again, we will check on this place first! May God bless you and your family as you continue to provide a service of love and environmental stewardship for those seeking a short refuge in the mountains."
“Perfect Honeymoon Cabin”
Our stay here was wonderful. We were able to relax, cook, read, and watch movies in comfort before heading out to hike some of the many trails in the area. We enjoyed how the cabin is located - remote enough for privacy, but close enough to asheville and Hot Springs for convenience. If we were planning our honeymoon over again, we would definitely be coming here. We had everything we needed, and hope that we can come again soon!
“Peaceful Getaway for a Large(ish) Group”
We brought seven people for a two night stay and had a great time. The cabin is spacious and we enjoyed the hiking trails, both on the property and off. The cabin was more well stocked than we imagined, and the first aid kit came in handy more than once! Our seven broke down into three couples and one solo rider; there are only two beds and two bedrooms, whereas there are four futon beds (nice quality, not the $50 college dorm kind) situated in the upstairs and downstairs living rooms (i.e. a little less private than some couples may want); with seven, it worked out great, but I mention it in case someone brings 5 couples - you'll all have a bed, but some will be in close quarters! We had a wonderful stay, and the owner was kind enough to send home forgotten items and charged us more-than-reasonable rate for an accidentally broken item (again, sorry!). The rate was amazing, and coupled with an a great owner, this place was a steal! Highly recommended.
I was looking for a place to escape. I needed a mountain home with a wood burning fireplace that would encourage a rugged and simple way of living. This retreat provided exactly what I was looking for. The drive to this location is magical in itself--a kind of transitional portal from bustling city life to a unique quiet countryside. Just around every tight turn along Hwy 209 is another picturesque countryscape, where handcrafted homes billow smoke from NC hardwoods that creep between mountainous valleys. The "butt-and-pass" construction style of the cabin is quite charming. Plenty of exposed wood to bring out that raw untamed feeling of being one with nature. The cabin sits at the bottom of a steep mountain grade which provides for a challenging hike to the top! However, if you want a terrific panorama view of Betsy's Gap then take a hike through the cow pasture just adjacent to the property. Great climbing trees! The cabin is equipped with fine amenities and excellent piping hot showers. Downtown Hot Springs is only 15 miles away and has pretty good dining options, some well equipped hiking surplus stores, and immediate access to the appalachian Trial. If you do decide to dine in Hot Springs, I recommend the Iron Horse Station--good food, great beer! This cabin would be the perfect retreat for a small family, romantic getaway, or best friend reunion. It's a great place to slow down and reflect. Bring a project, bring a good book, write a book, write a screenplay! This is definitely not the ideal place for playing video games or chatting it up on your cell phone. In fact, I had no cell service up here; there is a land line phone available to use. There is WiFi in the cabin if you must connect to the Internet, which I found myself doing everyday.
Thank you so much for allowing us to stay here while we wait out the snow created by Hurricane Sandy. This cabin is truly a 'thru-hikers' dream... We are heading back to the trail today warm, dry, showered and refreshed. “Winter in Hot Springs”
My husband and I were in between locations about to get married and wanted to spend some time in the mountains during the winter. We luckily found Chloe's lovely cabin and spent 6 months there from November through May. It was such a special experience and absolutely beautiful throughout the winter and spring. We even think one day we would like to live in the area permanently. The cabin is clean, comfortable and has plenty of space and having 7 acres to explore was wonderful. We went on a little hike every day. You could always hear the stream trickling and the birds calling. And even sometimes you would see turkey and deer. If you wanted to get away from the isolation of the mountains, Waynesville was 20 minutes away and asheville 45 minutes. We highly recommend this charming place to anybody and hope to get back ourselves.
