“Comfortable' peaceful cottage.”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2016

Stayed here mid June. Easy to find via Rosie's directions. We hired Kingfisher cottage and the adjacent shepherds hut. We had a few issues, we could only get two channels on TVs,no wifi as advertised but we did get 4g and owing to the heavy rain and the flood on the roadside, we had drainage issues for a day which we resolved slightly using a plunger. The cottage was very comfortable and very warm, we didn't need any heating on. It's a bit of a squeeze in the living area with the dining table, I feel some tv tables would be more adequate. Plenty storage space in bedrooms. My sons friend loved the shepherds hut which had electricity, tv, kettle. Good sized garden area and ample parking. The cottage is about 8/10 mile away from Cardiff but there are a few villag s close by. Rosie and Simon were very friendly hosts, popping in when we checked in and came to say by to us a day early as she was going away for the weekend. Owing to the steps up to the cottages in the hallway and down to living area, I would not recommend this property for wheelchair access.

Response from the owner Thanks for your valued review. I do hope you enjoyed. Did the use of our bean sticks work as a makeshift tripod for your husband's fishing from Penarth and that he enjoyed wondering around the garden? It was very interesting hearing how he can improvise with stuff from our shed. Very sorry to hear the TV was limited... strange as they are flat screen tv's with built in freeview, thanks for letting us know but all seem to be working now. All good here and were looking forward to further reviews from the very lovely people who came after you. Looking forward to seeing you again Carolyn and so glad your son's friend liked the Shepherd's Hut, it is sooo cosy. Enjoy the summer. x

“Great venue for a group stay close to Cardiff”

We enjoyed a weekend at Duffryn Mawr cottages in June - a lovely quiet location within easy reach of Cardiff City Centre. We booked all 3 cottages for a group of 10 girls - the accommodation was simple but very clean with everything we needed for the weekend (including a BBQ in the rain!). It was also extremely well priced. Rosie was really helpful in advance and during our stay - I would definitely recommend Duffryn Mawr to anyone looking for accommodation near Cardiff. Only words of advice - don't leave your doors open unless you want to be joined by a pair of inquisitive (but friendly) dogs!

Response from the owner Hi girls, I'm so glad you had a good weekend and I was very impressed that the bbq went ahead even though it was pouring down. How can you blame the dogs for paying a visit when you were all so friendly. Hope to welcome any of you back soon. Have a great summer!

“Excellent cottage in a superb location!”

During my holiday in Wales I stayed in this beautiful and cozy cottage located just 20 minutes away from the sumptuous city of Cardiff. With a wonderful location, lovely rural views, we really had a very peaceful and relaxing time! The owners were very friendly and kind and always there to help us with everything we needed. I really had an excellent time and I even got the chance to ride their beautiful horse Bud :) . I really enjoyed the place and I highly recommend this cottage to everyone! Thank you Rosie&Simon!

“Amazing fortnight at Duffryn Mawr”

We returned to Duffryn Mawr for a second time and found that our experience first time around was equally replicated. Warm welcome from the owners Rosie and Simon - accommodation was perfect for our needs particularly as my 80 year old mum likes her own space leaving the other half of the barn conversion for myself and my daughter. As per usual the accommodation was clean, comfortable, light and airy. The beautiful setting only adds to the fab experience of staying at Duffryn Mawr.

“A peaceful retreat in a great location”

We enjoyed a week in cold January and found the cottage very comfortable. The cottage was small but well equipped. We managed to find space for ourselves and our chocolate lab, Oscar. The position is great - easy access to so many interesting areas.

“Just the job!”

The cottage was clean and comfortable and my dog was made welcome too. Also it was very near my son's home.

“A holiday for the country lover but with easy access to Cardiff and the coast.”

Reviewed 13 May 2014

We rented the three cottages for a family holiday so that we could have easy access to Cowbridge, Cardiff and the coast. We had a week of splendid weather and managed all three. The cottages were comfortably furnished in a quiet farm setting and near enough to each other so that the children could easily play together in the evenings. The small apartment was actually in the same building as the 4 bed accommodation with a corridor between and a central locking door to the outside so that it was possible to treat this as a 6 bed rental if you wanted. This suited us well. The children loved the dogs but if you do have an allergy to dogs, as I do, be aware that dogs are welcome in the rented cottages. All in all we had a very good week and our hosts were always friendly and helpful when needed.

“Perfect!”

We stayed for a couple of nights to meet up with family in Cardiff. As we have a dog it is normally quite difficult to stay in a hotel so we booked this converted barn which is very dog friendly. Lots of walks nearby, plenty of countryside but only 15 minutes from the city. Lovely and clean. We will book again!

“Great location, and dog friendly to boot!”

Reviewed 7 May 2014

We stayed at Duffryn Mawr for a long weekend break and we were really pleased with the well maintained and very clean accommodation. Rosie was very friendly and helpful in setting up our stay and the accommodation is very handily placed just 5 min from the M4 junc and a wee bit further from a direct train link into Cardiff. Situated down a country lane the cottage is quiet, and quite private, with parking at the door. Although dog friendly, it is situated in farming country and there is no immediate places to let you dogs off the lead, but the are several beaches nearby, particularly recommend Barry Island with a great beach side dog friendly cafe. Cottage is well-equipped, although our double bed was a wee bit short for my long legs! Would recommend Duffryn Mawr for breaks visiting the Vale of Glamorgan nd Cardiff, particularly recommend Blue anchor Pub nr St athan for excellent food.

“Perfect pet friendly accommodation near Cardiff! Highly recommen”

We cannot recommend Duffryn Mawr Cottages enough. In april this year, we made last minute plans to go to Cardiff for my partners 30th birthday. We have a little dog, which we wanted to take with us, but are unable to stay with family with the dog (they have other pets). We found Duffryn Mawr Cottages and Rosie Kennedy was very helpful and prompt in letting us know she had room for us. The barns are perfect, with all the facilities you need. We were only 15 minutes (if that) from Cardiff. There are walks around the area, and a nice pub down the road. Rosie and her husband Simon were brilliant. If you could sell peoples personalities on paper/a website, they should. They are very friendly, welcoming, down to earth people who really made our weekend memorable! Thank you. If you are looking for somewhere to stay near Cardiff, where they also offer the option of taking your dog! Then Duffryn Mawr Cottages is the place for you!
