“lovely seaside cottage”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2015

A lovely break, the owner was very helpful and helped with the last minute booking. The cottage was comfortable and clean. Beds were very comfy and the kids loved the bunk beds. Staithes is a great short break destination with nice walks, a beach and pubs!

Response from the owner So glad you enjoyed your stay at Coastguards. Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback, and I hope we can welcome you back in the future. Andy

“Great cottage!!!”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2014

Communication from andy was fantastic from start to finish. The Cottage is furnished to a very high standard with everything you need and more Location is lovely right in the heart of the village just a short walk to the harbour.I couldn't fault it...We also hired a cottage on the harbour again described as for six people but there was only enough lounge seating for four people and only four dinning chairs something worth checking if ever you are daft enough to want stay anywhere else but coastguard cottage

Response from the owner A pleasure having you guys, and you were lovely to deal with, thank you. Glad you had such a great time. Andy

“A great escape”

An absolutely lovely place, everything you need, A credit to andy the owner who was fantastic. Really they thought of everything. Only stayed 3 nights but will be returning for a longer stay in 2014. A great base in a fabulous place, loved it all.

Response from the owner Thanks for the lovely review Donna, and I hope the birthday went down a storm ;-) Andy

“nice cottage in old fishing village”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2013

This three bedroomed cottage met our needs well. Its in the old village, which we've loved since discovering it way back in 83. It has a nice lived-in feel, not too pristine. I like the fact that the owner is very user-friendly and helpful eg he has got a car park pass for people hiring the cottage; and he doesn't take one of those tiresome deposits beloved of many landlords. We had a great week and would certainly go again.

Response from the owner Thanks for the review Ian. A pleasure having you as you were very easy to deal with and communicative. Glad you enjoyed Coastguards as we do, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Andy

“A perfect place to stay”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2013

A beautiful cottage in the heart of a quaint fishing village steeped in history. The owners give excellent service regarding bookings and information to local amenities and correspondence is dealt with straight away. The cottage has everything you need for that relaxing holiday. It's spacious, clean and comfortable with all the little extras to make it a 'home from home'. (And I'm very fussy with cleanliness) The wood burning fire is a big hit (and already laid for you when you arrive) making the cottage wonderfully cosy. Coastguard Cottage is in a perfect location, just a few minutes walk to 'The Royal George' which is one of the friendliest pubs to visit and a few more minutes to 'The Cod & Lobster' and beach and harbour. If you like a relaxing holiday with plenty of scenic walks and nearby places to explore try Coastguard Cottage!!

Response from the owner Lovely review, many thanks Lisa. Bet you're looking forward to you really getting the fire roaring on your winter break! Andy www.coastguardscottage.co.uk

“Wonderful location”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2013

This was one of two properties hired for 17 people of all ages for a surprise 60th for three nights. It was extremely well set up with equipment for cooking, eating, drinking, and sleeping. Probably not good on four floors for elderly disabled adults - one indoor bathroom/shower/toilet for 6 people probably best for close friends and family! Also worth knowing that there are two excellent double bedrooms and one much smaller with bunk bed - OK for us but not all adults. Absolutely tip top location right in centre of Old Staithes, virtually backing onto the river and harbour. Very hot weekend and we spent a lot of the time with front door open - good to feel part of the high street! We loved it.

Response from the owner Hi John, thanks very much for the review. Yes, I am always honest with guests about the fact it's over four floors, would rather people didn't come than had a difficult time when they do, and have deterred some but that's still best to be honest with people. Glad you had a lovely time and felt part of Staithes - it is a warm and friendly place. Hope we can welcome you back some time. Have a great summer. Andy & Michelle

“Very good weekend stay”

Pleasant cottage in the centre of Staithes in walking distance to the sea. Very well equipped with everything that one needs. Great to have wifi. Only problem with Staithes was the loud noise created by the seagulls.

Response from the owner Thanks very much for the review John, we really appreciate guests taking the time to let us know what worked and what we can improve on. Unfortunately I fear I can't do anything about the seagulls - believe me, I would ;-) Hope we can welcome you back. Andy

“Won't be the last!”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2013

Our first stay at Coastguard's won't be the last. What you see is what you get. The accommodation is exactly as it is described and pictured on the webpage. It was every thing it said it would be - spacious rooms. spotlessly clean and very well equipped. It is ideally placed for walking (or driving) along the coast, Runswick Bay especially, or Saltburn, Sandsend or Whitby. We got friendly, attentive service from andy and Michelle. We would not hesitate to book this cottage again - absolutely faultless.

Response from the owner So glad you enjoyed Coastguards as much as we do! Thanks for the review, and look forward to having you back! Andy

“Ideal Half term break with plenty to keep children amused for ho”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2013

We were a group of 2 adults, with our 2 sons aged 7 and 12 years, along with eldest son`s best friend.Staithes is a quaint village, with a real unspoilt feel. If you want a `Famous Five` style holiday this is the perfect place.Coastguard Cottage is a real home from home, probably the best holiday cottage we`ve stayed in (and there have been a few over the years) the 4 levels are great to dispatch the children to another level or you can all be together comfortably in the kitchen or living room. We had dinner for 9 one night as friends were also staying nearby. Our boys spent the first day and a lot of the 2nd just exploring the riverbed (it was v low tide when they started) and the harbour areas, crabbing and fossil hunting. When the sea is out, it goes out so far, you can spend ages exploring the rocks and pools. There is a Co-op at the top of the village, some gift shops in the village and a brilliant arts & crafts co-operative centre at the church. Would recommend the Royal George pub, we were a bit disappointed with the Cod & Lobster though, despite its harbour front position. (wrong meal served for a vegetarian and the Baileys was definitely off!) Beware of trying to do a supermarket online delivery!.. I had a Tesco delivery arranged with the majority of our provisions for the week, due on our first morning. the driver wouldn`t come down the High Street into the village as it is narrow and had had an issue with turning round before.. don`t let this put you off, we saw a dustcart, oil delivery lorry and various other delivery vans tootling past during our stay! Brilliant butcher in Staithes, with another related butchers in the next village Hinderwell. (which also has a Post Office and General store) Whitby is 20 mins drive away for the usual corny seaside fairground environment.. lovely sandy beach. Would recommend a visit to the abbey too. Robin Hood`s Bay definitely worth a visit, we found several fossils there. We all want to come back again next year :)

“Fabulous cottage for any occassion and group”

Reviewed 29 May 2013

The cottage is excellent - it looks great, is spotlessly clean and had a lovely 2nd stay there. We were a larger party of 8 and so had to use the sofa bed in the lounge - it was really comfy and the house had plenty of extra chairs, crockery, etc for the extra guests. There was nothing we needed that wasn't there. The owners were really helpful before and after our stay and we will return again.. Staithes was lovely too and sampled both pubs for meal and coffees.

Response from the owner Lovely to have you back Nicola. Until next time. Have a great summer! Andy
