“The most perfect holiday imaginable.”
The photos on the website looked impressive but nothing could have prepared me for the comfort and beauty of Villa Vajra. The site is spectacular--lush gardens and vegetation, filled with orchids and tropical foliage, the villa itself spacious and so comfortable. Three of us stayed in the villa for five days; it could easily have accommodated six. The staff was incredibly helpful, the food beautifully prepared and delicious. A car and driver were at our disposal, and when we invited a couple of friends staying elsewhere for dinner it went off without a hitch. And finally, it's a pleasant walk or short drive to Ubud, culture capital of Bali I heartily recommend Villa Vajra to anyone who wants a restful, idyllic, bordering on spiritual Haven. Np
“Best of Bali: stunning luxury villa, gracious people, impeccable”
Villa Vajra is the most magical, unique, beautiful place I stayed during my three weeks in Indonesia. I looked at lots of different villas and stayed at several other places before checking into Villa Vajra. Nothing compared. It is truly a unique and spectacular estate that affords privacy, tranquility, serenity and luxury. From the moment my husband and I arrived, we found it hard to leave the villa. We loved the indoor-outdoor design of the estate; the outdoor living area and outdoor bathrooms were great. The grounds are stunning- the villa straddles the edge of the rice fields and the crest of a beautiful gorge above a river, with views of the other side of the valley. We loved wandering through the lovely gardens and enjoyed the yoga/meditation pavilion. The villa's location is close enough to Ubud to enjoy all it has to offer, and yet removed from the hustle and bustle (about a 10 minute drive or a beautiful, highly recommended walk). The staff really made the experience memorable. Gusti, the manager, was friendly and attentive. He arranged in-house massage and yoga, and drove us to Ubud daily. The meals prepared by Ketut and Made, the chefs, were the best I had during my entire time in Bali. We're both foodies and really enjoyed crafting custom menus based on organic produce and fresh fish. The fish curry steamed in banana leaves was one of the tastiest things I've ever had. And Saba (wonderful!) made awesome mojitos. The owners, Joel and Nirgrantha, are gracious hosts with a plethora of knowledge about the area and great recommendations. They live in another villa across the rice paddy with two very sweet Golden Retrievers. We are so glad to have gotten to know them a bit, and look forward to going back next time we're in Bali.
“Exceded all expectations!”
Villa Vajra was the most perfect vacation home. The setting is breathtaking and the staff exceptional from the moment we arrived until we departed 5 days later. We felt like we had become part of the family. The villa has beautiful amenities and it is better than the pictures on the website. The furnishings are lovely and the food terrific. I would give it a 10+++ Edward MacDaniel
As a family of 6, with 3 generations from Mexico & UK, we stayed in Varja for 3 days from the 4th-7th February 2014. Having seen photos on the internet we knew we had chosen an extremely beautiful place, however on arrival we were simply spellbound by everything, and were continually amazed with the everything Varja contained: The actual home & amenities, all the staff (such professional, helpful, angels who were never intrusive and always available to provide for us); the impecably clean rooms; a resourceful study, with a magical view of the gardens from the desk (should we have chosen to work or use it to its potential); the outdoor bathrooms a real, fresh taste of the Tropics; the gardens so inviting and so lush, with fantastic walks easily followed by all ages and interests; the meditation patio simply perfect (all of us - from the 60+ to the 6 year old all were inspired to meditate)! The food was 5 star standard with generous portions and extremely fair prices. We chose to eat moreso at the house for we were so impressed with the range of menu, the magical settings of the tables (the napkins being origamied into different shapes each meal were such a lovely touch, which the children were very impressed with)! The pool and jacuzzis (one in the master bedroom) were fabulous - the onlooking Buddahs around the living area were a classy, spritual touch. Transport was readily avaiable and activities in Ubud were well advised; communication bewteen us, staff & businesses was perfect, all requests (including dietry requests) were met. It was ideal to be away from the hubbub of Ubud - minutes away yet tucked superbly away from any noise. Coming home after a busy day out was heaven- melting into paradise each moment at the house. There is no "best" or "worst", as our whole experience was simply magical - thankyou to all who made our stay one of the most memorable and serene holiday we have ever experienced!
“A piece of paradise”
The service received went beyond all expectations - thank you so much to Gusti and Saba, for whom nothing was too much trouble and always received with genuine smiles ...friends rather than staff. The villa is breathtaking. Rice fields to the front, jungle to the rear separated by beautiful luxury accommodation and grounds. The villa is breathtaking...each bedroom feels different and the open air living room is so relaxing...yet strangely intimate too. Located some way from town meant peace and quiet, travel in and out of town easily organised by Gusti. I loved my stay there...my only regret is that i couldn't stay longer!
“Amanresort quality without any other guests to trouble the seren”
We have rented villas and stayed in many of the best resorts in Bali and throughout SE asia on many occasions over the past 15 years. Villa Vajra is one of the very best. It ought to be included in the Luxe Guide to Bali if it isn't in the current edition. The location, quality of the villa its surrounds, the food and especially the attentiveness of the staff are simply top notch. We are already recommending to our friends that they try to arrange to spend some time at Villa Vajra and we will definitely be back.
“A Villa in Shangri-la that deserves a lengthy stay!!”
From the moment we were picked up at the airport by the Villa Vajra staff till we left, we were treated like royalty. This villa is outstanding, perfect for experiencing the essence of Bali. We didn't want to leave! Villa Vajra is a marvelous picture out of "Architectural Digest". You're not in some cookie cutter hotel. Situated in the middle of a rice paddy, we knew we were somewhere special from the moment we walked through the arched plant clad bamboo gate into this creatively built Balinese villa.. There are fabulous areas to relax in. We sampled alfresco dining at its best, served by two fabulous in-house chefs (no need to eat out when we could sample excellent Indonesian food or select from a menu food of our choice). There is a beautiful picturesque pool with cascading falls to relax by or swim in, magnificent landscaped gardens, a tranquil meditation area and the air conditioned bedrooms are nicely appointed with local art and fresh flowers. There's even an outdoor shower! We experienced what it's like to live in a Bali village area and yet we were only a ten minute drive to Ubud. Joel, the owner, even pointed out a trail where we could walk to town. We didn't rent a car as the villa provided a ride into nearby Ubud where we could experience ancient temples, gamelan dancing and shopping for handicrafts and batiks. We liked that free Wi-Fi and internet was provided. Guisti and his staff were just wonderful attending to our needs. Per our request, they arranged massages for our party of five for when we arrived after a 28 hr. plane trip and also booked a great bicycle trip and rafting expedition for us for which we were picked up directly at Villa Vajra...Unbelievable service!!! This is definitely a 5 Star Villa for those who want luxury, serenity, culture and comforts at an affordable price.
“Paradise on Earth”
"Villa Vajra is truly a little bit of paradise here on Earth. Set in the middle of stunningly green rice paddies, it includes 3 buildings. There is a very large guest house that includes the kitchen and gorgeous quarters that go down step by step to an outdoor eating area and a wonderful blue tiled swimming pool. There is also a magnificent 40 foot high thatched roof structure that serves as another guest house, a dining room and a media room. Finally, there is the home of the owners. The large staff is extremely helpful without being in any way obtrusive. The food that the 2 cooks prepare is superb and ranges from delicious Indonesian specialties to pasta to sushi to Mediterrenean fare. In sum, I can't think of a more beautiful, relaxing and sumptuous place for vacationing."
We stayed at Villa Vajra for only 5 days with friends and family and then moved to another property close to the beach following the desires of the younger crowd. I should say that we should have stayed there for the rest of our vacation or, perhaps, the rest of our lives. The location could not be better. Sebali is a tranquil village some 15 min away by car from Ubud. Joel indicated a shortcut path that we could use to walk back and forth to Ubud, beautiful and quiet, which we took several times. Just walking and seeing people working in their rice paddies was relaxing and spiritually invigorating. The architecture of the house is fabulous. A mixture of Balinese and modern with all the modern conveniences. The open plan of the living and dining room let nature, with its fragance, sounds and greenery, complemented by the pool waterfall, penetrate and wrap you. A massage in the meditation bale everyday made a perfect addition to our therapy of body and soul. The house is tucked on the rim of the valley, separating the rice paddies from the perfectly designed gardens which merged imperceptibly with the natural vegetation going down into the ravine. But this paradise would not be human without the staff and owners of matching excellence. Everything you can think of is already solved. From where to go, to what to eat or drink. I have no words to describe this standard of service, all of this coordinated by the villa manager Gusti. We opted for having dinner at the villa every night. Ketut and Madi, the cooks, prepared wonderful Balinese fare better than anything you can find in Ubud, with an unbeatable setting. The villa attendants Saba and Gwayan (?) did a wonderful job in maintaining us always pampered. In summary, it is the best vacation house I have ever been. I am already planning my next asian journey and two weeks at Villa Vajra is on schedule. I will look no further.
We stayed here for a week in august, 2013 with a group of seven adults. We had a marvelous time. The setting is serene, quiet yet accessible. Joel and Nigrantha are gracious hosts, generous and communicative with their expertise of the area. We are so grateful for the opportunity to have experienced a slice of their nirvana. One of the best bits of our stay was our interaction with the incredible staff of the villa, starting with Gusti, the villa manager, and extending to all the cooking staff, especially Ketut. We recommend staying here, and if you do, do choose to dine in. The food is incredible, affordable and healthy. Perhaps the truest comment we can offer is this: we will be back.
