“Wonderful short stay but one I want to repeat...”

Reviewed 31 Jan 2014

Just wanted to say thank you very much for letting us stay over at Blackbird Cottage at such short notice. We were on route to Whitby to a family gathering and decided to make the most of the weekend by staying in one of your lovely cottages. We found it very quaint and cosy and it had everything we needed. We even had time to try out the fish & chip shop that was recomended. We will definitely be booking again, but will be staying there the whole weekend..

Response from the owner Hello Janet Pleased you enjoyed your stay. Glad to be able to help at short notice. Hopefully you will be able to stay longer next time and have more time to enjoy the area. Robert

Roomy, yet cosy with character. Well equipped and very clean. Comfy beds. A quiet village off beaten track but near to coast and handy for touring. A brill fish and chip shop about 1/4 mile away and fine dining within easy reach. Easy to book and contact owners if needed. Felt very welcome.

Response from the owner Hello Kay Thank you very much for your kind comments. Very much appreciated. I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards Loraine Shelton

“Excellent”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2013

Fantastic cottage, beautiful location, great setup and facilities. We stayed as a couple with a small dog. The cottage is setup great. Enclosed small garden to contain the dog and enough space to not feel cramped. Great cooking facilities and equipment. large dining room. Nice bedrooms. Wood burner in the lounge to stay warm and cosy! The place could do with a shower fitting but the bath was adequate. Great value and great cottage. Highly recommended!

Response from the owner Hello John Thank you very much for your kind words. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are in the process of having a shower fitting over the bath. We look forward to welcoming you again sometime in the future. Kind regards Loraine

“very enjoyable holiday in a great location”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2012

The area of Iburndale is a perfect location for coast/moors, Visited in July but only just been invited to review hence the time lapse. There are some delightful features to the cottage we stayed in, however there were a few maintainence/housekeeping issues with the cottage which should have been attended to before our arrival. The light switch was broken in lounge, the actial switch bit was on the floor when we arrived. We put it back and taped it and didnt use it during our stay, There was a patch of black damp in the main bedroom to the right of window, not very nice! Around the base of the loo seemed to leak water, we had to mop up morning and evening, There wasnt any fuel for the fire so we put the heating on at night, could have saved the owner money if there had been a bit of firewood and would have been nice for us too. The drier in the garden (for hanging washing)was broken, couldnt use it. Thought your request for guests to strip beds on day of departure a bit cheeky, we stay in 3 to 4 self catering establishments a year and this is the first one we have been asked to do this, Lastly the wheely bin was full to overflowing when we arrived and absolutely stinking ? something maggotted in there as the lid cracked and broken, think somebody else was using it, Hope this helps you put things right as it is not major problems but its the attention to detail that makes such a big difference. I have to say this was a bit disappointing but didnt spoil our enjoyment. We booked an evening meal on the Nymr pullman and it was fantastic, can highly recomend it. Visiting whitby again next week but staying on the west cliff.

Response from the owner Thanks for the review and appreciate the time lapse. Very glad you had an enjoyable holiday. The maintenance issues you noted were dealt with some time ago. Garden dryer removed as there has always been a washer/dryer in Blackbird Cottage. Logs are provided for solid fuel stove for effect but not usually right in the middle of the summer months. The central heating is available anytime as much as required. Sripping beds not essential just helps service staff, who works hard in a short space of time. We took this suggestion from other holiday cottage owners. Bin appears to have been a one off. NYMR pullman dining is a real experience, highly recommended.

“Cosy cottage in a great location!”

We had a throughly enjoyable stay at this cottage. It is very well equipped (though without a shower) and very comfortable. A great base for exploring the beautiful North Yorkshire coast & countryside. We would love to stay there again.

Response from the owner Hello Laura Thank you very much for your kind comments, very much appreciated. Kind regards Loraine Shelton

“Great spot.”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2012

We had a very, very pleasant time in this cottage we had stayed in before. It was a great base, close to many towns and sites and with a number of good lcoal shops - there were several good walks from the cottage (handy for dog owners). We would say, though, that it was looking just a wee bit tired in comparison with the last time we stayed (and in comparison with other cottages we have stayed in for a similar price): there was no wood for the fire, no dish cloths or scrubbers, no non-stick pans, the garden clothes line was not easily usable and the parking area was difficult to use throughout our week because of building work on other properties. We did notice that there was a planning permission posted to re-extend this cottage so perhaps these improvements are pending?

Response from the owner Very glad you had a pleasant stay again. Extensive refurbishment of a cottage close by is due to finish imminently and access to the on site car parking should be back to normal. Other points noted are in hand/updated.
