“Peaceful vacation in the silence of Bear Valley”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2014

Towards end of the season 2013, we (couple and daughter 11) visited the Bear Valley Highlands. It exceeded by far our expectation of getting to a remote place and in the Canadian wilderness. Hiking the ranch and the forrest, enoing the private small lake, the ranch itself and the ultimate privacy was a very special experience. Watching the night sky from this place, is something I will never forget. The cabin is new and fully equipped and working in a self contained way with solar power and water from a spring. In the surrounding area there are many outdoor activities possible and places to visit. We've enjoyed the visit of a rodeo stampide, surrounding lakes and hiking places. Not to forget the very warm and open welcome form the host family. They are very helpful in case help is needed and leave your entire privacy in case this is wanted. It is one of the most memorable vacation for me and I can encourage everyone seeking for silence in a remote place to make a visit to this very special place.

“Spectacular wilderness get away...refreshing”

Reviewed 7 Mar 2014

I was vacationing along with 5 family members from all across Canada. We arrived after a beautiful scenic drive from Calgary to be welcomed by Barbara in a way that we felt home, safe and amoung family. The log cabins are spectacular, very clean and everything you need to be comfortable. The view from every window was breathtaking and different and even when the cows come visiting you are happy to see them. The cabins are located off the main highway near Lumby BC but not to the point of feeling isolated. The drive up the mountain to Bear Valley is breath taking and exciting, up-down and around but more than worth the climb. We spent a week of what I would call inner peace and tranquility just having fun with each other, nights of non-stop talking and laughing, running into the cabin when suspicious noice heard by side of the cabin or miserious noices coming from the meadows. Life is good in the wild. Then came Barbara on two occassions with wonderful homemake cake which we all fought for the last morsels. Barbara & Jurgen her husband made us feel like one of the family giving us greens from their organic garden and the pleasure of meeting Wanya their dog who also made our stay that much more memorable(visited on a day basis). If getting away from computer/cell phones and spending memorable time making wonderful memories with loved ones this is the place... Thank you Barabara ans Jurgen and my family will definitely be back in the near future.

“Unforgettable, life as it should be!”

Removing oneself from the daily routine of city life and awakening in a place where you hear songbirds outside your window each morning before your eyes are open, exploring the natural environment under clear blue skies and then gazing into the vast array of stars as frogs, owls and other nocturnal animals perform their latest interpretation of a Mozart masterpiece. Your days are filled with adventures as you hike the many trails throughout the ranch visiting either cattle or horses along the way or seeing indications of where wild animals like bear, deer and cougars have passed. Enjoy the quiet surroundings of the ranch lake in a canoe as you paddle past various colourful birds while fish jump leaving their mark on the water. Our time spent on the ranch was unforgettable and we have already booked our next year's vacation to re-live a life that is next to impossible to achieve in today's busy world.

“Paradise on Earth”

Reviewed 14 Oct 2011

During our second visit to the Canadian West Coast we decided to spend a couple of days in the Okanagan Valley. We had been looking for a small peaceful retreat as a basis for day trips/hikes and found Bear Valley Highlands on the internet. And we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to stay! Our cabin showed the owners' affection for their place - it was clean, cozy and everything we expected and a lot more. The sound of wildlife we heard during our nightly barbecues on the deck was just incredible. The hikes we had planned to do were quickly being replaced by exploring the huge property of the ranch, canooeing on the beautiful lake or just relaxing. It was really interesting and a pleasure to talk to Barbara and Juergen and learn about their experience with running a farm in Canada. We also enjoyed the company of their animals and their cute dog Wanja. Besides our fantastic time at the ranch we also enjoyed our trips in the Lumby area (e. g. Mabel and Sugar Lake). We will definitely come back!

“Forget it all and relax your senses”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2011

The first thing that comes to mind about our stay at Bear Valley Highlands was the view. There was an amazing unobstructed vista for us to enjoy from our patio that made us feel like we were the only people on Earth. The cottage sits on the hill, inside a valley, and far on the horizon you can see the beginning of the Rockies. We had a very busy and loud year and this stay gave us a much needed relaxation within the nature! The cottage looked brand new, very spacious and clean. The owners, a german couple with two daughters were super friendly and nice, willing to help us at any time. We really recommend this cottage if you want to escape a rush hour noise of the city!

“Seclusion”

Reviewed 7 May 2011

Had a fantastic stay, very secluded spot. Cabin was clean and very comfortable and the area was really idyllic and peaceful. Barb rode up to us on horseback and came to welcome us which we loved and they make you feel really at home and welcomed opening there whole grounds for walking and rambling on.
