“AMAZING!!! Love, Love Love!!!!”

A great house for the whole family! Kid friendly rooms & play areas inside and a beautiful, shallow beach to play and relax in. The house is far enough from town and other people to feel like you have an island to yourself, yet close enough to be able to run into town to pick up something at the store, or grab something to eat. Fell in love with Eleuthera and can't wait to go back!

Response from the owner So glad that you had a great time. You are always welcome back!!

“Our kids favorite vacation!”

My husband and I, along with our 3 small children, recently returned from a relaxing vacation at Parlay at Sunset. The home was perfectly equipped for our weeks stay and the owners provided a wealth of helpful information to us prior to traveling. Whether you plan on exploring the island or just parking it on the beautiful beach at the house, Parlay is the place for you! I highly recommend The Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera book...without it we would have been unable to locate some of our favorite beaches on the island. As Kelly and Denise told us, "pack your water shoes and your sense of adventure!" Enjoy!!

Response from the owner We're so glad you guys had such a great time. We visit new beaches every time we are on island and still have only been to a fraction of the amazing locations Eleuthera has to offer. We hope the kids had a great time playing in the sand and enjoying the beautiful waters at Parlay At Sunset!

“A true bliss from the usual vacation - highly recommended.”

My wife and I recently visited Eleuthera for 10 days, along with another couple who were having a private destination wedding while we were there (beautiful wedding destination). The four of us stayed at Parlay at Sunset, and needless to say - loved it! We did a lot of research before the trip and as advertised this place takes you off of the beaten tourist path and delves you right into uber-relaxtion and self-rejuvination. The water, the beach, the relaxed atmosphere and the abundant privacy (seriously, we were the only ones on the beach for miles) make this place unique. We are quite well traveled, usually visiting cities and tourist sites so this place was a much needed breath of fresh air. Booking the place was a breeze. The owners are professional and truly want to make sure you have a good time. Read the information packet they send out and follow it - you will have a better trip. Logistically it was easy to get to with a flight from Nassau (NaS) to Rock Sound airport (RSD) where we were picked up via car by the lovely Ken Culmer and driven to the beach house (about a 15 minute drive). Ken, the manager of the house is great - any questions just give him a call. Once you are there, take use the car to easily get around if you so wish. Parlay at Sunset was pretty well situated in the mid-section of the island which made it a good starting point for day trips / exploration. The beach house was in really good shape and the air conditioning worked like a charm (which is not always the case in Caribbean countries). Everything we needed was available and I can't say there were any legitimate complaints - just a calm and cool Caribbean beach house with all first world amenities (yes, by first world amenities I mean a blender for making margaritas and pina coladas :) For the price, there is nothing comparable. Skip the expensive, over-hyped tourist traps of Nassau and set your sails for Parlay at Sunset. It was a blast!

“One of those "tell your grandkids about" places.”

My new wife and I spent our 2 week honeymoon at Parlay at Sunset. First, the house. This house is clean, well maintained, gorgeously situated on the beach and just plain awesome. The owners spared no expense in making sure you have a real beach home that fits with the paradise island of Eleuthera. Ac in all rooms makes sleeping easy even in the middle of summer.(We were there in august) It is less than 30 yards out the back door and you are on your own beach! Since it's on the Caribbean side, the water is calm 95% of the time so it's amazing for snorkeling and swimming plus safe for the kiddos if you have any. I am a bit adventurous and did some spearfishing also off the shore from the house. It is a bit difficult to find any grouper or snapper big enough to spear but I have speared a couple lion fish and gotten 4 or 5 really nice size crawfish(lobster) there. The closest neighbor(1/4 mile up the road) is also the caretaker and most likely him and his wife will be the only people you see on the beach while you are there. They are great people so strike up a conversation if you see them. It's only about a 15 minute ride from the Rock Sound airport. Rock Sound also has the best grocery store(IMO) on the island along with a couple liquor/beer stores so you can get all the Kalik and Rum you need. You are also only about a 30 to 45 minute ride to Governors Harbor. Make sure you hit the fish fry there on Friday nights. Great food cheap and great way to meet some other vacationers and locals.(hint:the locals come late usually) Stick to 1 or 2 Rum Bubbas at the most. ;) Back to the house itself. Easy to stray when it comes to Eleuthera. There is a game room with toys, board games, and video games. There is a great deck on the back of house. Grill up the fish you speared or bought at the docks down the road at the docks in Tarpum Bay.(Go around 3 or 4pm and get some fresh caught fish) There's great shelling up and down the beach here as well if you're into that. Paradise!!

“The most amazing vacation spot ever!!”

We couldn't have picked a better place to spend our honeymoon! Kelly and Denise were amazing hosts, making us feel right at home in their paradise digs without even being there with us. It was immediately evident upon arriving just how much of their resources (time and money) they have invested to make Parlay the clean and comfortable retreat that it is. There really was not a detail overlooked in terms of Parlay's amenities. Lots of space, air conditioning, modern appliances including a washer and dryer and cable too (but who really wants to stay indoors in a beautiful place like this??). And that's just the inside! Out the back doors awaits paradise and the most beautiful beach we'd ever seen. Mind you, there are many breathtaking beaches (Lighthouse Point was at the top of our list) to explore on the island but Parlay quickly became our favorite. We found our best collection of shells here and loved the sea life that greeted us each day (sharks, rays, and other fish). And talk about having a beach to yourself...we only saw one other couple on the beach in the entire 10 days we were at Parlay! We can't forget to mention the inviting beach cabana under which we enjoyed our breakfast every morning or the hammock for taking naps in. Compared to the other settlements (towns) we visited, we loved Tarpum Bay and the people we met there and always felt privileged to be heading back to "our Tarpum Bay home" at the end of each day we spent exploring. The island people were truly one of the joys of visiting this place. They are so friendly and live at such a relaxed pace. Time really has a different rhythm in Eleuthera and it was so refreshing. There is something for everyone here. You can do nothing but relax or stay busy exploring an endless number of beautiful locales. Thanks Smith family for sharing your place and helping us to have an unforgettable honeymoon! We hope to visit again!! We keep saying we'd love to retire in Eleuthera!

“Fantastic vacation spot!!!”

Parlay at Sunset is a beautiful island home with many amenities. It is very comfortable and has a nice layout. My family of 5 was more than comfortable staying here! The backyard is full of hammocks, a volleyball net, an awesome fire pit (just make sure you have lots of bug spray at night!!!)and 2 single kayaks to use at your leisure. The beach here is the true gem though. The colors of the water are amazing, the wildlife abundant, shallow water which is perfect for children to play and snorkel in, great shelling, and extremely private. We basically lived on the beach all week long and only saw people briefly on the beach twice during our week there. The location in Tarpum Bay is great. You are close to the town of Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound is just down the highway for grocery shopping and of course, Ocean Hole. Or head north to Governors Harbor for more restaurant choices and sightseeing. This was our best family vacation ever and I hope to return very soon! It was extremely relaxing and such a gorgeous setting. If quiet and relaxation are your goals, then this is a perfect place! The owners are very easy to work with and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns you may have.

“A vacation to remember!”

This was our first Bahama vacation & what an adventure it was! Our son & daughter-in-law took us here for our anniversary. We also had our 15yr old grand daughter & 20 month old grandson. The accommodations are perfectly set up for your comfort & enjoyment. The beach is beautiful & relaxing. You can walk for miles & not see anyone. The water was so clear and calm for the first 2 days of our trip. If you like peaceful relaxation & comfort, this is the place to go. Everywhere we went, the folks were friendly & helpful. Thankfully we were able to stock up on necessities before the storm, just like we do back at home to prepare for a major weather event. So when our uninvited guest, Hurricane Sandy arrived, we were able to watch the storm from the safety & comfort of the house. The caretakers & local folks were so helpful & caring before, during & after the storm. When the island lost power, we were thankful for the generator at the house. As the wind & rain howled around us, we felt safe & dry inside. We had games to entertain all of us, and satalite tv to keep up with the weather updates. The tv reception was spotty during the 104mph winds but stayed on most of the time, amazing! As the storm approached, the owners contacted us to make sure we were ok, and the caretaker checked on us. Even tho the storm had passed our house with little damage, the island roads & airports were flooded with debris and we had to wait til all was clear to try to make our way back home so we were stuck there for 3 extra days while trying to reschedule our flight. We couldn't go in the water because it was so rough from the hurricane, however, we did do lots of beach combing and found many interesting treasures the storm left behind. We finally enjoyed some much needed sunshine the day before we left. Our only complaint? We didn't get enough sunshine! We will definitely go again, preferably not during a hurricane!

We stayed for a week at Parlay and had a very relaxing time. The house is comfortable and very spacious. Wished we had brought the family-almost. Once we got the hang of driving on the wrong side of the road we wished we could stay longer!:) We enjoyed 8 different beaches and found it challenging to find them, but fun! Take bug spray for the night time walks. We will definitely return!

“ver private”

If you're a people watcher, like conversing with fellow tourists,or sharing cocktails with complete strangers, this is not the place for you.Parlay is a very private escape on what we found to be an absolutely private beach--we saw 1 person the whole week there. We loved it! The water out front is crystal clear, the kind you see in commercials/pictures of the Caribbean--simply breath taking! We snorkeled, seeing 3-4" sand dollars, star fish, sea urchins in water that is shallow a long way out--perfect for children.Water shoes are a must. The cottage is clean and spacious--the owners have graciously/thoughtfully supplied everything you'll need, plentiful towels, for instance. When the Caribbean out front was choppy, we drove North 3/4 city blocks, turned right down a partially paved road to get to the other side of Eleuthera, where we found more gorgeous see-thru aqua water--this is the reef-protected atlantic, so snorkeling is great here as well. Again, no one on this beautiful beach. We like to beach comb/take long walks, and found lots of "treasures"--buoys, colorful rope, drift wood, shells. We never visited a restaurant in the very small town, but purchased the catch of the day from the town dock at around 5. For instance, we got 4 nice-sized lobsters, our favorite, for about $30,which we brought back to Parlay, cooked then ate while watching the sun set. We've travelled the Caribbean extensively and think we have found the perfect place for beautiful water, privacy, shelling, beach combing, long walks, gorgeous aqua water, walk-in snorkeling.(I know the owners were working on internet connections, which is spotty as best, if this is important to you). We suggest you rent a car and explore the island, particularly South where we found more incredible beaches. The island is truly idyllic. We felt safe there--the people are very gracious/humble--no one trying to sell you anything.Pack lightly--all you'll need is a bathing suit, shorts, some t-shirts. Will Return--great place!

“Fantastic Family home on an idyllic Bahamian Beach”

We arrived a day late due to transport problems. We were met at the airport by Mr Culmer who took us to the house and showed us around. There were ten of us, six adults and four children, and the accommodation was excellent, the lounge is spacious and comfortable, the bedrooms were ideal and each one was individually air-conditioned. The location was amazing, we never tired of the view out of the back door, just a few steps to the beach and the turquoise sea. The kayaks were a great hit with the adults and the children, the beach and shallow sea was a perfect playground for the children, where they saw starfish, fish, a small shark and were able to pick up sand dollars and sponges. The shops on the island were very adequate for all our needs, and the restaurants and cafes were very accommodating and the food was delicious. We enjoyed Sammy's Place in Rock Sound, Tippys at Governor's Harbour, Rosie's Place up on the North Side at Rock Sound, and a great takeaway at Betty's in Tarpum Bay. Of course some of the best features our stay were the visits we were able to make to friends on the island, and to have a comfortable base to invite them back to.
