Very Good

“A peaceful retreat, a home from home, overflowing with quality!”

Reviewed 5 Dec 2013

From the moment we drove on to the property we were impressed with the overall presentation. Good outdoor facilities, BBQ, garden furniture as well as a clothes line. Once we entered the home, we liked its homeliness, quality furnishings, including the 2 bathrooms equipped with good fittings. The lounge and dining room are spacious. The bedrooms are a good size and the bed we slept in was comfortable (only 2 of us). Towels were creatively positioned on each bed, cupboard space is good as well. The home has a washing machine and tumble drier, with washing powder and pegs included. The tumble drier is in the garage. Coffee, tea, sugar, flour, were also provided. Games, Dvd's and books (including the local area) are also supplied. The home is cleaned upon your departure. We would recommend this lovely home, it was close to Te anau, but tucked out of the busy lane of tourism traffic. Lake Manapouri is a short walk away. Manapouri is a small settlement with the necessities of every day living available. We intend returning, everything was good, the owners, Ray and Jessie are incredible owners!

Response from the owner Thanks Keith and Clare, we look forward to meeting you on your next visit and thanks again for your lovely review. Jessie and Ray

“Awesome Doubtful Sound adventure!”

Reviewed 21 May 2013

#18 Motu-Au-Close Cottage was amazing! It was clean, comfortable, well appointed, and located ideally. It would be perfect for a family as well as couples. We would have loved to have stayed longer. It was easy to find and communicating with the owners was easy. Our schedules unfortunately did not allow us to meet in person, but they were so helpful for itinerary suggestions. Can't wait to go back.

“Best place we stayed our whole trip”

Reviewed 16 May 2013

Loved this place, we are from australia on Holidays driving around the southern most parts of the South Island. There were four adults and a child, we stayed in many holiday rental properties on our trip and this was definetly the stand out. It had everything you would ever need and my son and husband loved putting the lego helicopter together. It felt like home. Would definetly stay again if ever down that way again. Ray and Jessie great job with making this place so homely and comfortable.

“Awesome stay!”

Several friends and I stayed at 18 Motu-Au and it was wonderful. Ray and Jessie were very kind and accommodating. We had an absolute blast checking out Doubtful and Milford Sound from here. The rental was great, the rooms were huge, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is great as well as the outdoor grill.

“A Warm & Comfy Home in a Great location!”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2013

We stayed here with another couple in March for three nights & were very pleased with the home. It had all the amenities necessary to make us feel as if we were in our own home only away! Jessie & Ray were both great to deal with, Jessie even was able to book us the tours of Doubtful Sound & Milford Sound which were both amazing tours & very well worth doing! The location of the house was perfect to do both tours & site see to & from Milford. After site seeing all day it was nice to come back to such a comfortable place. It was very nicely maintained & clean. Don't hesitate to stay here if you want to see the "Sounds" & surrounding area. You won't be sorry...

“All mod cons”

Wouldn't really describe this as a cottage - more a modern house in a cul de sac. Beautifully decorated and well equipped on the whole but shortage of shelves/drawers in the bedrooms and room for toiletries - this could be easily remedied though. Enjoyed the DVD collection but had some difficulty with TV channels. Great location for Doubtful Sounds cruises but small hamlet and need to go to Te anau to shop/eat out. Lovely if you like peace and quiet or there's a crowd of you who want to barbecue every evening. Very helpful hosts both before and at the beginning of our stay.

“Warmth to the heart!”

Ray & Jessie, we thoroughly loved your cottage! We arrived with a tired young family, after touring Doubtful Sound, and the cottage was cosy, inviting, with cute little personal touches, pretty, clean, full of perfect toys, child-friendly. Ray & Jessie, thank you for your warmth and your personal touch of kindness to us! We would thorouhgly recommend this cottage to any young family.

“Home away from home!”

Reviewed 4 Feb 2013

We had a lovely time at the home of Ray and Jessie. Ray came by when we arrived. He brought us a bottle of wine and made sure we had maps of the area. He also told us we could go by their house and see the alpacas and sheep. Our little girls (ages 7 and 9) were so excited to do this. The location of the house was great for us as just down the street is the Doubtful Sound overnight trip location. The house has games for the kids, books to read, a stocked kitchen, 2 great bathrooms, washer/dryer and even a garage to park your car in. Jessie was great and made all of our reservations for our trips before we arrived. Thanks for a great accommodation Jessie and Ray and your kindness! Best wishes in the future!

“Amazing, absolutely no complaints”

Reviewed 2 Feb 2013

This place delivered. It exceeded even our expectations, which were high. Quality all the way. We have stayed in many holiday houses and this one took care of every need we could have had. The owners were helpful with our plans to Milford Sound. Very flexible even with us getting in late. The area was beautiful and convenient. There were extras we weren't expecting...a french press for coffee and coffee. Most places only had instant. A clothes dryer that was missing from most places we stayed. Even laundry soap...which we had been buying and carrying with us. We just wish we could have stayed more than two nights.

Ray and Jennie thank you so much for such a welcoming home! Everything in the house was set up with a lot of thought and warnth. A great home to relax in peaceful surroundings, and magnificent views. Loved the outdoor living, and the comfortable beds (beautifully presented). Very friendly hosts. Wish I could stay there longer!
