“A little paradise - Un havre de paix”

Reviewed 12 Mar 2014

We have just come back from a two week stay at the Playa Grande Casitas. We had a ground floor apartment and it was just so comfortable. spacious and tastily furnished. We loved the two grand rocking chairs in the living room. The kitchen was well equipped and it was nice to find coffee beans already there for our first morning! Manfred, the manager, was easy to reach, helpful and very efficient. We also found this same professionalism with the cleaning staff and the pool (cleaned daily) maintenance people. the apartment is walking distance from a little market and three restaurants as well as the beach. We also took advantage of the boat-taxi close by to get to Tamarindo. It was our first time in Costa Rica and the Casitas and its staff made our stay a memorable one!

“Fabulous Casita!”

We stayed in apartment 1. The apartment was absolutely beautiful; granite counter tops, fully equipped kitchen and comfortable furniture. The pool was simply terrific. That said, with the wind wreaking havoc with the flowers in the trees, it kept us busy cleaning the flowers out. People pay big money at spas to soak in water with flowers :-)! Playas Grande has very quiet beaches compared to the busy beaches of Tamarindo. The small store just around the corner is convenient for fulfilling basic needs and there's a nice restaurant at Hotel Bula Bula, about a long city block away. It is about a twenty minute walk to the estuary for a $1 per person ride across to Tamarindo. Just wave and a boat comes to pick you up - very convenient. We didn't see any Howler monkeys right at our apartment, but they weren't far away, as we could hear them, and we saw a large crocodile on the beach during our $3 each ride up the estuary from Tamarindo to Hotel Bula Bula. We'd take that ride when we were too hot to make the longer walk since this ride took us closer to the apartment. For the extra $2 each, it was well worth it during those times. Overall, this apartment was extremely comfortable and we'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from the crowds. The apartment manager, Manfred, couldn't have been more obliging; truly a terrific man! As well, the owner was great about answering questions via email promptly and also seems to be a great guy!

My wife and I recently stayed at Playa Grande Casitas and were extremely pleased. The property manager, Manfred, makes you feel so welcome and at home. He makes your stay personal. The property was outstanding, super clean and quiet. Our apartment had all the things we needed for our stay and the fact that the beach is only 5 minutes away is fantastic. We highly recommend Playa Grande Casitas to anyone planning a trip to Costa Rica. Personal thanks to Manfred and is wife for the personal attention you gave us!

“Best place to go!”

I absolutley love this place, been there twice and there´s no need for me to look for any other place! the place is beautiful, five minutes from the beach on foot, not crowded and you can do all types of activities like surfing, there´s a place nearby where you can even get lessons. The service was great and the best price in the market!

“Playa Grande Casitas perfect hidden treasure”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2013

We stayed in the upstairs apartment and it worked perfectly for myself, wife and 10 year old daughter. The location was great and offered the perfect balance of being out of the craziness of Tamarindo but not out in the middle of nowhere. The apartment was in perfect shape and the property manager was just a phone call or two minute walk away. The gated community offered piece of mind for my family. It was just a five minute walk to playa grande where we found uncrowded surf and pristine beaches.

We would highly recommend Playa Grande Casitas (or otherwise known in Playa Grande as 'Roger's Place'). We vacationed with our family having flown from australia for a month. We rented the main house and three casitas. With us we had three boys in their early 20's, two teenagers and our two daughters travelling with their partners. We hired a car from Tamarindo although you can get around just as easy with the help of the amazing staff at Bula Bula restaurant just around the corner, they were able to assist with taxis, including phoning for a water taxi to Tamarindo which leaves just across the way from the restaurant, or people movers or a bus if needed. Remember to ask for Todd, and remind him of the aussies that he took care of in March 2013. Manfred was wonderful and welcoming. No matter where we visited we were always excited about returning 'home' as this is what we started calling it. Relaxing, private and near enough to party-life (as required by the younger gen). The birds, monkeys & other wildlife were spectacular, the surf was great with no crowding on the beaches. I can't say enough about the staff at the casitas, they did a wonderful job tidying up after all the young ppl. Just writing this is making me yearn for a return visit. All I can say is go go go, stay, stay, stay. What a wonderful experience. Thank you Roger and Manfred and the warm, friendly Ticos & Ticas of Costa Rica.

“Great place for quality family time”

Reviewed 12 Feb 2013

We had a great time during our stay at the Playa Grande Casitas! Located in the heart of the Playa Grande Estates, we found it to be perfect. We were a 3-minute walk from our favorite restaurant there, The Great Waltinis and about a 7-minute walk away from the beach. The surf break my husband so desired was a bit further, but he really enjoyed walking it in the morning and being able to hear/see all the wildlife! We stayed in the one-bedroom apartment with our two year old son and had plenty of room. My parents stayed in a studio and we would converge on our patio or in our kitchen most of the time. It worked out perfectly, because we had the privacy of our own place, but a wonderful and large space to share our time together;) The only negative I can elaborate on is that the kitchen was lacking in basic cooking utensils such as scissors, more than one knife, garlic press, etc. However, I am sure this is something they could have taken care of if I had remembered to bring it to the attention of Manfred when I saw him. Manfred was always able to help us out with whatever we needed. On one occasion we could not get the grill to work so we called the number provided and spoke to his wife who said he would be there to help as soon as he got back from SaN Juan!! Even after such a long day, he came straight there and set us up! He also offered a bakery delivery service every other day where he'd pick up certain delicacies and deliver them to the casitas. Wow!

We stayed at Playa Grande casitas tree weeks with my sister and our husbands plus their little girl aged of 11. We just fell in love right away with the place. It's beautiful, juste like the pictures, the lawn, the pool, all those comfy chairs, the balcony, everything! My sister, her husband and their daughter stayed in the appartment and the two of us had a little studio, so we could shared the big, well equiped kitchen in the appartment. There is a little convenient store (5 min. walk) where you can find some things to eat but we really enjoyed to take the taxi-boat (3 min. walk to take it at the Bula Bula hotel) to go to Tamarindo for the groceries once a week. And just so you know, we did'nt drive a car for tree weeks there! We came from Liberia airport with Tamarindo Shuttle and we just stayed at the casitas, pure moments of relaxation and happiness! We juste loved it! Oh, and I forgot to tell you: full Wi-Fi!!! Thanks to Roger and Manfred, all I wish is to go back some day, and for sure I will. If I had to add a negative point, is that I would add loads of hooks everywhere to hang our bathing suit and towels, cause it will damage all the nice wooden furnitures.

We are experiencing serious post trip withdrawal, which means we had a really great time in Costa Rica! Manfred and the casitas are a winning combination. Our group of 4 had a 1 bedroom apartment and a studio, and we were very pleased with both. The value is excellent. The rooms are just as described, if not better. The fresh wood smell is one thing you can not see in the pictures. Clean and comfortable, well equipped, safe, great location... etc. The pool is always sparkling clean and refreshing and the beach is a short walk away. The casitas are in the Palm Beach estates more towards the south end of playa grande which has a less crowded surf break, and is walkable to the main break of playa grande, or even the tamarindo rivermouth. Manfred and his wife are great people and provided instant assistance with anything we needed... not to mention fresh baked bread one morning, and a beautiful dinner on our last night. Can't say enough, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend!
