“Beautiful and comfortable for swimmers or relaxers!”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2014

This home is a wonderful gem! I was concerned I'd miss being on the beach with the wind and surf, but azul Riviera won me over. It's true that the photos don't do it justice. From the multitude of sitting areas in sun or shade on the immaculate grounds to the second floor patio and third floor ocean view sitting area, there's a favorite spot for everyone! Add a pristine pool, a private cenote and, best of all, private access to the lagoon and what more do you need? Owner Kathy and her husband are so welcoming and helpful and the caretakers for the home are the best. The rooms are comfortable, lovely and spotless.

“Wonderful house in a fabulous location.”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2014

Our group of three families had a wonderful time for a week at azul Riviera. The house is comfortable and the staff is helpful and friendly. The microwave went out and it was replaced within hours. We had them cook one dinner for us. I highly recommend it - delicious! The pool is a great size and the direct access to Yal-ku lagoon was the best part. There was plenty to do - snorkel in the lagoon, swim in the pool, nap in the hammocks, ride bikes into the village to eat, shop and swim with the turtles in Half Moon Bay. I highly recommend the house, the location and the area.

Azul Riviera is a sparkling jewel in akumal. The grounds are beautiful and the views of the Lagoon and sunsets are breath taking. We had checked our luggage on our flight coming down and the airlines lost my husbands baggage. We reported to Miguel the faboulous caretaker and low and behold it was sitting on our doorstep the next morning no problem. We love akumal and staying at azul Riviera made our stay even more enchanting that it has ever been. Yakul lagoon is in the back of the property and there is a private entrance where the most beautiful fish of the entire lagoon live. Just put your snorkel and fins on and away you go!. Miguel also made us a special Yucatan dinner one night for friends . It was delicious. My husband and I stayed in the master bedroom downstairs. The luxurious king size bed was heavenly and more comfortable than our bed at home. The kitchen also has everything you need and then some. The outside seating and pool make for a great place for a party or just relaxing. It is well situated for easy access to the beach and akumal proper. Well established in the most beautiful place on the Yucatan we highly recommend azul Riviera for any kind of gathering. We love staying here and we love Kathy for creating such an oasis in paradise. Kathy Sonheim azul's owner has made a place to stay that you will remember always. Come and stay you will not believe it!

“Tranquility on the Lagoon”

Azul Riviera is a wonderful property located on a splendid piece of Yal-ku lagoon in North akumal. It is well maintained and is staffed by a great family that lives on the property. The villa is close enough to the beach to be convenient yet far enough away to be quiet and secluded. If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay this is the place for you.

“Beautiful villa right on Yal Ku Lagoon with private pool”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2013

I needed to get away from work for a week and work remote somewhere and I had always wanted to stay in akumal after a previous trip to the Maya Riveria and a day trip where I discovered Yal Ku. During that day trip, I had seen there were villas surrounding the lagoon and so when planning this week getaway I looked up villas in akumal and Yal Ku area and found Kathy and azul Riveria. Kathy was incredibly helpful (despite my booking at the last minute) and was very responsive in reserving my time at azul Riveria. I lucked out and was the sole person there that week and had the whole villa to myself. The gardens and grounds are beautiful and the caretaker Miguel (who also cooks an amazing French Toast!) took very good care of me during the week I was there. The pool in front of the lagoon was gorgeous and it was heaven to just float and swim in it in the mornings and evenings. The room I was in was huge and the bathroom was massive with a huge soaking tube by the window that you could float in and a separate huge shower. The room had its own terrace overlooking the grounds facing the lagoon. The bed had its own hand painted headboard of sunflowers and lillies. A bright gorgeous room! And the private access to the lagoon was amazing! And the best snorkeling was right in front of the house (since it was the windy the week I was there the park entrance for the public area's water was very murky but by the house it was very clear since it is further back) I saw many many many fish including 4 barcudas including a baby one. Make sure to go into akumal and go to the beach and see the turtles in the bay. I saw at least 5 of them during the time I was there. Make sure to either rent a car or a golf cart - I rented a golf cart for the week and it was great to be able to get around town! Lots of great dining in akumal by the beach!

“Great experience, excellent location!”

I was at azul Riviera for 4 days with my wife and 2 kids, my father in law and other friends with 2 kids. That´s 4 kids and 5 adults and the house felt big enough. My father in law had his own room and bathroom as well as each family. There are many open spaces in the house so that you can always find a calm spot event if there are kids, a father in law and a dos! The family taking care of the house are very nice and Miguel is always willing to help. The only suggestion I have to improve is to have real natural juice in this place were fruit is everything but scarce, instead of the tetrapack juice provided in the complimentary breakfast. So I suggest in the next trip someone donates a juice extractor to the house! I extremely recommend this place!

“Tranquility”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2013

We rented the entire villa for 10 days in March 2013 and had an amazing time. Azul Riviera exceeded our expectations. Yal-Ku lagoon provides a wonderful snorkeling experience just steps from the villa. The private entrance allows you early morning and late afternoon snorkeling when the variety of fish are most plentiful. The location in akumal provides a great starting point for adventures visiting ruins, cenotes, Sian Kaan Biosphere and local ziplines. If you prefer to hang by the pool and drink margaritas the atmosphere at azul Riviera is phenomenal with great lounges, sun or shade, beautiful birds and flowers. We can't wait to return!

“Go swimming in an aquarium and relax in the sun!”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2013

This is a beautiful place with perfect privacy. It has a nice pool, lovely grounds, and a beautiful private entry to the lagoon. The lagoon is mainly crystal clear and full of fish. Some of the best snorkeling was right in front of our little thatched patio. It is quiet and peaceful. The breakfasts were delicious and hearty. The caretaker/cook is so helpful and made every effort to make our stay relaxing. There is wildlife wandering around and I loved it, but I only saw one grasshopper as far as bugs go. There is lots to do in the area, you do need a car, but one can walk to akumal (about one mile) which we did every day. We loved it and would go back in a heartbeat.

“Paradise at Yal-Ku Lagoon”

Reviewed 4 Feb 2013

Our stay at azul Riviera was, in a word, perfect. The property and locati on exceeded our expectations in every way. Imagine me, a true night-owl, springing from bed at sunrise each day and clamboring down the path to the palapa by the lagoon. Into the water I went, to swim with the fishes in this magical, natural aquarium. In addition to top-notch accommodation in a gorgeous home, the little town of akumal is completely safe, laid-back, and charming. What will we do differently for next time? Nothing...except perhaps to rent some bicycles. Azul Riviera, we will be back...

“Beyond expectations”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2012

I contacted Kathy via email and arranged to stay for three days. My wife Lee-ann and I very pleased with what we had happened into. Way better than a hotel room, it was spacious, clean, quiet. I am an early riser so I made coffee and retreated to the Mirador to read and watch the sunrise. Evenings in the Great Room were peaceful and comfortable. Private entry to the lagoon for snorkeling makes this a very unique property. We stayed four more nights and plan on returning in the spring.
