“A beautiful spot with fantastic views”
Niki had many essentials in place that we hadn't expected. The cottage was very clean. Great being chilly at night while a horrible heat wave had been occurring at home. We'll be back next time in NS.
Response from the owner Thanks Bob, It was great to meet you both. Hope to see you again down the road. Niki
“Can't imagine a better accommodation for a visit to Cape Breton”
From our first contact with owner, Niki Pike, regarding reservations to the moment we said goodby to Cliff Waters the experience was nothing short of sensational. Prior to our trip Niki provided us with a great overview of her beautiful part of the world including recommendations on exciting hikes, whale tours, sea kayaking, and local dining. Her advise was spot on. We knew immediately upon arriving that Cliff Waters was going to be a special place to use as a base for our week on Cape Breton Island. As we drove along the roadway approaching the cottage for the first time we noticed a pod of pilot whales feeding just off shore. Arriving just before sunset we spent the first hour of our stay sitting on the front porch watching and listening (yes the whales were that close) as the whales put on a private show just for us. The amazing sunset over the ocean that we marveled at that evening was just the first of what became a daily ritual. The cottage was everything we had hoped for. There was plenty of room in the open floor plan for my wife and I along with our daughter. The sleeping loft provides a great place for a third or fourth person. The full kitchen had everything we needed to prepare wonderful meals of local seafood. We found the cottage clean and well furnished with everything we needed for our stay. I must admit that before our visit we had some concerns about the remote location of Cliff Waters. It is in fact "off the beaten path" in a very isolated yet easily accessible area. Our concerns were unfounded. The isolation translated into privacy. With not another home in sight we felt as though we had the whole island to ourselves, yet, within a short drive along the Cabot Trail we discovered a wonderful world of natural beauty and adventure. Each evening, after a day of exploring the island, we returned to our wonderful Cliff Waters Cottage for the whale show and unforgettable sunset. Can't imagine a better vacation experience.
“We want to go back!!”
We stayed in Pleasant Bay for Canada Day long weekend. We had such a great time in Cliff Waters cottage. The cottage was very lovely, clean and cozy, and it looks like in the magazine cover: green field, cliff and no houses around, amazing!! There was so quiet and so peaceful, we didn't want to leave. Owners of the cottage were very kind and very helpful. First day we did hiking in Skyline trail. Views are so so beautiful from that lookout! the trail also is not far from Pleasant Bay. Second Day we did hiking in Meat Cove. And again views were spectacular! We loved driving on Cabot trail back and forth.Probably the most beautiful we have seen in Canada. On the third day we watched whales with Captain Mark. We saw more than 100 whales jumping in the water close to the boat and around the boat. Such a great tour! That day was very beautiful sunset and the sky, we sat on the terrace of the cottage, drank vine and enjoyed the sunset, was so romantic :)
“A cottage with an amazing view and wonderful hosts.”
Our vacation to Cliff Waters was a highlight vacation that we will always remember. My husband and I wished we would've stayed longer because 2.5 days was not enough. Niki was a wonderful host who went beyond our expectations. She let us know about a great hiking opportunity just down the road (Pollett's Cove), she personally took us on a wild blueberry picking adventure, and she introduced us to a local gardener where we could buy some vegetables. We still have the pictures on rotation on our screen saver because they were all such memorable experiences. The Pollett's Cove hiking trail may not be part of the National Park, but the hiking was beautiful and challenging with many rewarding views. The cottage has a beautiful view of the bay and it's so close to the beach. There's a lovely porch overlooking the ocean and if the weather doesn't permit, you can sit inside and enjoy the same view through the large window. Everything that we needed was available to us, even a lobster pot! We'll have to make some lobster next time. There's so much to do, next time we'll plan a longer stay!
Response from the owner You guys were great to be so open to doing some of the suggestions I put forth. There are so many fantastic things to do around here, and it's sad that many people come all this way, but are in such a rush to 'see' the Cabot Trail that they don't truly get to 'experience' it. That you took the time (and the effort) to go out to Pollett's Cove, and to also go way off the beaten track with me to pick wild blueberries and get some fresh veggies straight off the vine was absolutely terrific in my view. I'm happy to know that we were able to add to your experience, and that you have lasting memories. That means a lot to me - because that is exactly why we do what we do - we want to share this part of the world with you and others. And in turn we are fortunate enough to have enriched memories too that we can think back on. Thank you.
“Relaxing, coupled with exceptional scenery”
Our hosts welcomed us with bottle of wine, fresh rhubarb and baked goods. Day after our arrival we were visited by pod of seals seen from deck: they stayed most of the week. Whales also observed in the bay. Property centrally located for hiking and scenic drives. This was our second visit to Pleasant Bay area: had outstanding whale watching tours both visits. Cliff Water Property was clean, relaxing, and equipped to meet all our needs. My husband and I enjoyed our week: would be suitable for small family. I walked alone on road in front of property and felt safe. The best part of our visit to Pleasant Bay was the new friends we made: our hosts Niki and Jeremy Pike and their lovely children.
Response from the owner Thank you for your kind words. The pleasure was all ours in meeting you both. I often think back to the stories you shared with of us your life. My grandmother always tells me - strangers are only friends you haven't met yet. And in my life this has often held true. Thank you for visiting our part of the world and offering us your gift of friendship. Niki
“Absolutely loved it!”
I stayed at Cliff Waters in the midst of winter and got to experience Cape Breton at its wintery best. Cliff Waters was a warm, cozy home that gave me just the experience I wanted. It is the perfect balance of being convenient to the Cabot Trail, but away from neighboring houses. Niki is a wonderful host and provided the home with all I needed-- wood for the stove, comfortable furnishings, a totally cool stone chess set, and a welcome gift of fresh baked bread and wine. I loved the home with all of its wood paneling. Leaving it at the end of the stay was very hard. I will be back!
Response from the owner You guys were such troopers coming up here during a winter storm! And we were floored that you came all the way from PA to spend New Year's Eve at Cliff Waters. Thanks so much - you are definitely an inspiration to us in getting out and making the most of winter! Hope to see you again!
“A perfect place to spend some time”
Cliff Waters Cottage is perched at the foot of the mountains and overlooks a huge expanse of sea. You feel isolated in a gorgeous area of the province. Great sunsets. Hiking trails nearby. The owners let you know there favourite nearby places, which you would never find on your own, and they are truly astounding. The cottage is very comfortable, the wood stove is ready to light, and it even has wireless. Very, very comfortable. My wife and I are artists and where the cottage is centrally located right by the Cape Breton Highlands we were able to travel quickly and easily to all the fabulous trails and locations there. We really enjoyed ourself and without hesitation highly recommend it to anyone looking to relax and recharge. We can't wait to go back!
Response from the owner You guys are not only artists - but Susan, you are a great artist! Little did I know that we have one of your books at our place - "A Fiddle for Angus" - it's one of my children's favorites. I hadn't made the connection until a mutual friend told me about you. Great work! We'd love to have you back.
“A Trip to Repeat!”
We stayed at Cliff Waters for a week and had an amazing vacation! The owners, Niki and Jeremy, offered unrivaled hospitality. The cottage was comfortably furnished, bright, open and set up to have everything we could need and more. The location is an outdoor paradise. We were able to step out of the door and hike for hours or hop on a road bike for heart pounding rides with breath taking views. With just a few minutes of driving we were on the Cabot Trail where we visited the park or drove to other destinations on the island. We enjoyed soaking our tired legs in the river just below the cottage and whipping up dinners of fresh seafood you can buy from the docks. We finished our days relaxing on the large deck while absorbing the awesome views, sunsets, and wildlife. Don't hesitate!
Response from the owner Thanks for your kind words. It was pretty awesome to see you guys taking everything in on your bikes - these hills and mountains aren't for the faint of heart and you guys seemed to tackle them with life and lightness. Well done!
“It doesn't get any better than this!”
Every morning when I woke up, the first thing that came to mind was "Wow! It doesn't get any better than this.” Cliffwaters is a great place to de-stress and rejuvenate. You're embedded in a magnificent panorama of mountains and forests and the bluest of ocean that stretches into endless sky. I enjoyed sitting on the deck eating breakfast and watching gannets dive for fish, whales surf, eagles float by and the occasional curious moose observing me while nibbling tree branches. There are plenty of activities for nature lovers to get involved in. I loved the pine cottage with its unique and comfortable furnishings and well-chosen works of art by local artists. I look forward to returning to Cliffwaters.
Response from the owner Whenever I clean the cottage, I always have to stop for a minute and take in the silence and the view and watch the gannets diving into the endless ocean, hear the birds rustling and chirping in the bushes, feel the warm sun on my skin and absorb the magnitude of the ocean and the sky and the mountains. Thank you, I am so happy to see you put the way we feel into words - it just simply doesn't get any better than this.
