“Lovely ambiance with a beautiful setting”
This is the second time my wife and I have visited Harbour View and I can say that it will not be our last. The lure of deserted beaches and little uninhabited Cays to explore will be pulling me back some time in the (hopefully) not too far distant future. I can highly recommend this location to those looking for solitude, beautiful views and who also have a little spirit of adventure. Moriah Cay is a short paddle away in the kayaks provided and is a natural paradise to explore at your leisure, turquoise waters and unspoiled landscapes await. After four trips there I can honestly say I feel I have only scratched the surface, there is so much more to explore and of course there is still Man O War Cay just a short paddle beyond!! Don and Gail are the perfect hosts, extremely accommodating to my requests (thank you again Don!) and having lived in Exuma for a long time, very knowledgeable of the lay of the land with many suggestions of different activities. A rental car is a must as you're fairly isolated in Hartswell and if further exploration of Elizabeth Harbour is desired then a boat from Minns Watersports for a day or two is also recommended. For those who have an aversion to the commercial packaged resort experience like myself I can highly recommend Harbour View, lovely accommodation and ambiance - you'll leave a lot more relaxed than when you arrived...
We stayed here in august for a week and wished it had been longer. This really is paradise, we had each beach all to ourselves and every one was soft white sand and crystal clear water. The house was immaculate and the views outstanding. The photos here look great but to see this in person is breathtaking. We will definitely go back, many times too.
“Great Vacations at Harbour View”
Just got back from a marvelous week spent over in Harbour View, Great Exuma. Don and Gail are great hosts and provided us with the necessary Support and recomendations for us to have a wonderful time. Apartment is very Comfortable and views are exceptional. Beaches and bonefishing across the canal are numero # 1. Thanks
“Awesome views, cute little cottage”
We're staying here this week and loving in. The place is just enough for a romantic getaway. The views are breathtaking. The kitchen is small, but theres everything you need, including a full-sized fridge. There is satellite tv and Internet access. The master bedroom is large with a huge view of the turquoise ocean that is the first thing you see when you wake up. Don and Gail are so kind. They were very accommodating. They offered to put curtains up based on a previous review, but we asked them not to put them up for us as we wanted the view in the morning, and we're not woken up early as the other reviewer said. We don't bonefish, but the perfect bonefish spot is immediately in front of the house. We used one of the double kayaks and saw turtles, rays, and hosts of fish on the way to Moriah Harbor the deserted island only a kayak away from the house. The island has sand bars that lead way out into the ocean, miles of sandy white beaches, and no one else for miles and miles. We wanted to learn how to kitesurf and this would be a great spot. We probably won't get to that though, we have been so busy doing nothing!
Harbour view was perfect for all our needs and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Don and Gail were wonderful and helped plan your trip to ensure you make the most out of your stay. The kayak was great fun exploring the surrounding islands and we loved the fact that it was so peaceful and quiet with hardly another person around. Don and Gail called ahead to restuarnat a to check they were open and looked after us very well. The apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped. I would recommend staying here to anyone. We hope to return one day soon.
Response from the owner Thank you for your kind words. We DO hope to see you again.
“A wonderful experience !”
It was our first time in an non all-inclusive vacation, so we were a little bit stressed about how it would be. As we arrived to Don and Gail's house, we were instantly reassured on the quality and security of this place! The house is perfectly located near the ocean. You can take Don's kayak to go to a small island (about 10 minutes) The balcony offers you a spectacular view on the ocean and on Moriah harbour's cay all the amenities in the house are there to make your stay comfortable. The house is 20 minutes by car from George Town (the main point of Exuma) There are a lot of isolated beaches on the island, mostly less then 10 minutes from the house. Don and Gail have a satchel where they listed the restaurants, beaches and activities on the island. They are also available to answer your questions if you need it ! We are a couple who really like travelling to discover the place we visit and we really loved the experience here in the Bahamas: Renting the house, renting a car and we were free to eat, to visit and do whatever we wanted to do when we wanted!! Exuma is very safe, people are friendly, and you can find pleasure just to lay back at isolated beaches or you can find other places to hang out with other tourists and locals like on Stocking island, George Town, etc. We will return in the Bahamas and we highly recommend Harbour View vacation rental.
“In one word, Fabulous!”
Beautiful view to wake up to, terrific veranda to eat, lounge and relax on. Spacious, clean and friendly, helpful hosts. Don and Gail are a wealth of information and always willing to assist. Kyaking and snorkling wonderful with barrier island to explore right off your door step. Would return in a heart beat, great for a "battery recharge". Bonnie and Rick
“Exceeded my expectations”
After exploring by kayak, car, and foot, I can't imagine a better more central location upon this quaint little island. Thank goodness for the prompt and detailed directions provided by the owners as my plane was delayed and it was getting dark. Having reserved a car, I easily picked it up at the airport, stopped by the market, and then drove the solitary highway to an obscure turn off marking my destination. A warm greeting and a quick orientation, followed by a glass of wine, a cigar, and the breath-taking stars overhead - heaven! I chose this property not only for the location and price, but also because I would be able to use the owner's kayak - a two-seater, open Cayman model. I was able to sit and paddle hard when moving against wind or tide, or stand and use it like a paddle board when moving with the tide. Both ways allowed be great mobility in the shallow waters of the marine sanctuary which sits in view of the house. I really have no words that can capture the beauty and feelings that enveloped me while on the water. It was truly magical, and the only limits to my exploration were determined by the amount of daylight by which I could navigate. I simply didn't want it to end. I for one love the solitude, and believe me when I say I was alone! I did make it into town a few times. I even went to Stocking Island to play some volley-ball with a bunch of boaters - the regulars of the Chat and Chill bar area. Everyone I encountered was exceedingly friendly and gracious. I made many new friends. Great Exuma is not for everyone. It's not refined - its a little rough. It's not fast and exciting - its lay back and simple. It's not a clean and tidy island, but the charm shines through if you let it. If you are open to adventure, or you seek a tranquil setting from which you can rediscover nature and peace, this place is where you belong. Oh, and by the way, the cozy bed, big shower, TV / wi-fi, and the coffee maker were perfect at days end.
“A gem in paradise!”
A single traveler, I stayed at Harbour View at the end of august. Despite a few days of bad weather (thanks to tropical storm Isaac) my stay was fabulous. First of all, the house is gorgeous. A breathtaking view from the deck welcomed me to the house. Sunrise and sunset views, watching the tide come and go, and listening to the peace and serenity of the wind and water. Star gazing on the deck at night, and a zen-like bedroom, with a million dollar view, the house is located in the most quiet and idyllic spot on the island -- only 15 minutes from town, and 10 minutes from the most amazing beaches on Little Exuma. A lovely kayak and dock are a short walk (less than 2 minutes), and a nice spot for a dip in the water. Gail and Don are the nicest hosts, checking in on me to make sure all was ok, making me feel I was at home, and delightful and assuring that I made the right choice to stay at Harbour View. The house is well equipped with what you need for a comfortable stay. I look forward to my next trip back to Harbour View! Thanks Gail and Don!
Response from the owner Thank you Laurie for your kind words. You were the perfect guest, weathering tropical storm Issac in your stride! and we really look forward to having you visit us again soon Gail
