Coates Mill Cottage is a 200-year-old Cotswold stone property with large private garden. It lies in a quiet position at the end of a terrace, in a wooded hollow with a mill stream opposite . The property's rural setting belies the fact that it is only a 10-minute walk from the centre of Winchcombe and a 5-minute walk from the nearest pub, The Corner Cupboard. Winchcombe is a small Cotswold town with a wealth of old buildings, and Sudeley Castle. It has a good choice of local shops, pubs and restaurants. For a special occasion, guests may wish to book 'No 5' restaurant. Cheltenham Race Course is a 10-minute drive away. There are excellent walks in all directions from Winchcombe, including The Cotswold Way.

Dining room, adjoining kitchen with all mod cons, utility room, cosy sitting room with corner sofa and an open fire ready to light. Stairs to a super-king size bedroom and a king size bedroom. The super-king bed can be converted by prior arrangement into twin beds. Bathroom with bath and shower over. Egyptian cotton linen and towels.

One small/medium dog is welcome, please let us know if you will be bringing a dog.

Babies (not yet crawling) and children over 8 welcome.

We were so grateful to Jonathan for accommodating us at extremely short notice...we booked our break only 24hrs before the day of our arrival! So lovely to arrive and find a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge, milk and Chelsea buns, a very welcome surprise! The cottage has everything that you could need to make this a home from home. We particularly loved the stylish bathroom and the amazingly comfortable beds and bedding! Despite usually struggling to sleep, I slept like a log whilst there! Very well placed to walk in to Winchcombe which had everything that you could need as well as being close to many of the most gorgeous villages/towns in the Cotswolds and Cheltenham too. We can’t wait to come back!

“damp and dreary”

Arrived with lots of hope but was dashed almost immediately as we struggled to get the car through the very narrow road. Fortunately we took the smaller car but would have never got in with an estate or the larger 4x4 we have. Cottage was small but we knew it was not going to be spacious but we hoped cosy. When we arrived there was evidence of water under the front and back door as the rain had been quite persistent. The cottage was very damp, not only had recent rain dampened the walls visually but the smell was uncomfortable. Under the window at the front were old damp patches which had not been painted or covered and the electric meter and wiring had no cover on in the main room and therefore open to the damp conditions. We were left a few essentials like bread and milk etc which was a nice touch but on examining the cooker it was dirty and unclean as were the utensils that were left to use. Upstairs we found nice and clean and probably the best part of the cottage. Instructions were to not alter the heating as it would come on in the night and we hoped it would dry out the damp however it did not and the cottage was very cold and damp through the night. We left the very next day although we had booked for a week and I emailed the owner who just said if we had rang him he would have come around and sorted the heating which would have dried out the cottage! As we were instructed that the heating was on a timer and should not touch we felt calling him out at 9PM unhelpful. I have heard nothing since and no question of any apology which is disgusting, just a " If you had rang me I would have come around" excuse. Thoroughly disappointed and can not believe we have not had a further call or email after paying for the week

Response from the owner Who to believe? Mr Damp & Mrs Dreary, the first bad review in 17 years or all the others?! This person obviously needed to leave early. Other guests, both prior to this booking and after, left lovely reviews and have since re-booked for next year. It's just not true that anything is unclean. The lane is narrow, but 4x4s and large estates manage it all the time. The location is what makes the cottage special. It was August, we don't leave the heating switched on as most people would find it too hot. It had been raining heavily, all the guests needed to do was press 'on' on the heating control, the cottage would have been toasty in 15 minutes. Instructions are in the manual (or phone us!). There was a large stack of logs and everything required to make a fire - they didn't light one. These guests stayed less than 12 hours. If they felt there was such a problem why not call or email us?! 9PM would not have been a problem at all. Fresh flowers, wine, bread, fruit juice, butter, milk, jam, carrot cake, eggs, treats for the dog - are these just essentials to you? We try our best to make the cottage a home from home. Guests emailed to say that had already left, we replied within minutes, 2 weeks later and we've heard nothing back. They chose to leave without contact, thus not giving the cottage or us a chance. This makes us believe that this wasn't the cottage for them or other factors were at play.
