“Garden Paradise”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

Gail and Joe were absolutely amazing hosts - they offered us full access to their berry patch as well as to their vegetable garden. We picked their cottage over others because of their scent free policy and organic vegetable gardens - a rare find. The cottage was very clean and well kept. It is located far enough off the road to be very quiet and only a short walk/drive to the provincial park across the street. The swimming was good and the low/high tides were fantastic to see and experience - we all enjoyed walking the tidal pools and discovering what was in them. Very highly recommended. Two drawbacks - no internet and the beds springs were a bit on the squeaky - two very easy fixes.

“Peaceful end Enchanting”

To say that Gail and Joe and their Summer House cottage exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. The peaceful seclusion reinvigorated our souls. Gail and Joe were the perfect hosts, caring and gracious. We met as strangers but parted as friends. The central location of Summer House allowed us to explore the island and have a safe place to return to. This was our frst trip to PEI and Gail and Joe helped make it special. When we return to the island, Summer House will be our home away from home.

“Amazing Cottage”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2012

We were blown away by the beauty of this cottage. We were so happy with the small details of the cottage, such as fresh PEI coffee beans, orange juice and milk in the fridge for us, beautiful handmade PEI soap. The cottage was sparkling it was so clean. The beds were very comfortable and the decor of the cottage was absolutely beautiful. There wasn't a missed detail in this cottage to make us feel at home, such as the dvd movies, organic shampoo and conditioner, organic dish soap and laundry soap, beautiful dishes, table cloths, fluffy towels and more. It was so amazing to cook in the kitchen and have a view of the ocean from across the fields and to sit outside and relax. Gail and Joseph are the sweetest people you would ever meet, thank you for being so helpful and kind. We would go back again for sure! Just stunning and perfect!!

“Peace and Quiet and Welcoming Space”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2011

There's something quite special about this place. The cottage is hand built and beautiful. With 2 separate porch areas and 3 lovely bedrooms plus a grand gathering room, and all on one level- it's just a really neat place to spend a week or two. Then there's the peace and quiet. No cars. Full silence, day and night. Great view, great walks and close to our favorite little PEI village of Victoria. The Kern family welcomes you from day one, and by the time you leave you feel like part of their extended family. Great vacation rental. We're repeat guests and look forward to returning again soon.

“Peaceful Relaxation at its Best”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2011

We have returned to "our cottage in PEI" every summer for a week since we discovered it in 2005. We have stayed on our own and with friends and family. What brings us back every year is: - Clean, spacious, pretty cottage with all the amenities - Comfortable beds, beautiful linens, towels and toiletries - Private pastoral location with a view of the ocean - Short walk to lovely, quiet, child-friendly beach - Friendly, helpful, relaxed owners nearby if you need them - Beautiful, organic vegetable and flower garden to delight the senses and palate - Proximity to Charlottetown and the tourist attractions of PEI - Short drive to great food and entertainment

“Wonderful cottage with wonderful hosts!”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2011

If you would like to experience true "Islander hospitality", you will love the "Summerhouse at the Summer Garden". We were greeted to welcoming hugs from Gail and Joe Kern and immediately had a feeling of home, and have returned to stay many times. The cottage is spacious and modern with all the amenities that we need for a wonderful stay. The kitchen is stocked with island roasted coffee beans, fresh milk and butter as well as all of the necessities for cooking our meals. Gail and Joe have found a way to incorporate the sustainable aspects of the island lifestyle into the cottage by providing organic and natural cleaning products for guests to use. There is a beautiful deck which provides opportunities for quiet conversation or for secluded sunbathing with a view of the Strait. All the linens, including beach towels, are provided. Fresh, organically grown vegetables were always available from Gail and Joe's wonderful market garden. They have shared their fresh strawberries and early potatoes as well as an abundant variety of greens for our salads. Our children were young teenagers when we first stayed at the cottage and they love the location . . . just far enough off the main road to feel secluded but close enough for a short walk or bike ride (bikes provided) to the beach at the Provincial Park across the road. Joe and Gail provide information about places to visit and things to do and are knowledgeable about current shows and festivals that may be of interest. We find that the location of this cottage allows for day trips to Charlottetown or any other parts of the island.
