“Charming buildings in a beautiful location, an ideal base for a”
Jean and Mike are excellent hosts with lots of local knowledge and information made available. Poppas was ideal for a family of four as teenage daughter and friend enjoyed the mezzanine bedroom and Wifi access. The heated pool and deck area was fantastic especially with the backdrop of the old barn wall on one side and open countryside on the other. The gardens around the property were pretty and provided a relaxing place to sit outside and drink wine while watching the sun go down. The property is in a peaceful rural location with a number of villages, small towns and places of interest within easy reach.
Only stayed a week at Les Mortiers, but could have stayed for a month (or even longer!). The weather was good allowing us to take full advantage of the superb pool and surroundings - saline rather than chlorinated water with a good number of loungers / chairs / parasols etc - and to enjoy sitting out in our private garden. Very peaceful setting with countryside all around. Short walk to the village with bakery and small, but well stocked general store, several supermarkets within short driving distance. Excellent base for exploring all the Loire valley has to offer. Mike and Jean are welcoming, genial, helpful hosts and the Grange is a lovely property; I have to give especial mention to the excellent beds and gorgeous, high quality bed linens! British freeview TV was also appreciated, bizarrely so we could watch english coverage of the Tour de France - just had to remember the programme times were all an hour later than usual. In brief, all I had hoped for and a bit more. Thank you Jean and Mike, very much hope to see you again!
“Les Mortiers is a superb home base for enjoying the Loire Valley”
From the gite itself; the lovely "welcome" gifts of wine, fresh eggs, and homemade jam; the beautiful pool area; to the peaceful loveliness of the French countryside, the accommodations are incomparable. As well as seeing the sights of the Loire Valley, we loved shopping at the local markets, learning the protocol when shopping at the Super U, and just trying to do things the way the French do. It was a wonderful adventure for us made even more so by the gracious owners who were so helpful. This was our second visit, the first being in 2011. It was wonderful to be there again.
“Everything you could wish for, and more.”
From the moment we arrived, everything was wonderful. The accommodation was perfect, clean and an extremely well equipped kitchen. We stayed in Poppas, which is very spacious indeed for people. Jean and Mike were extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The location was perfect for exploring the Loire Valley, and just a few minutes to walk to the village, for croissants or an early evening drink and just a 10 minute drive to the nearest supermarket. Tranquil, pretty, superb.
What a wonderful place to stay. All the little extra's are provided for, making for a magical holiday. My three children fell in love with the ponies at the bottom of the garden. We will be back!
Response from the owner Happy memories of a lovely family. We so enjoyed your stay here too.
“Lovely Loire stay with the Brookes”
We loved our stay at Les Mortiers. The cottage was clean, comfortable and quiet. The Brookes are wonderful and accomodating--we were even able to pick fresh veggies from Jean's garden for our dinner. Les Mortiers is close to everything you need for a relaxing holiday but far enough away for peace & quiet.
“Fantastic, superb and wonderful holiday”
We had the most fabulous holiday here, the cottage was lovely and cosy and in the spring surrounded by daffodils. Mike and Jean were superb hosts...we swam every day in the lovely heated pool. Excellent base for driving around and seeing the Loire valley...
Overall a really wonderful stay in a beautiful, idilic, quiet traditional French Country Cottage. The accomadation is spacious with everything you need and more! A real feel of home from home. The cottage is set around fields, with horses and donkeys passing the window of the lounge. The lounge has 2 comfy sofas, a wonderful log fire. It opens out onto a lovely back garden area - unfortunately apart from feeding the horses we didnt get to sit out and take in the gorgeous views our stay was over the Xmas period. Brrr. The bedrooms are large and have the softest Egyptian cotton to snuggle beneath on the comfiest beds to sink into after a bottle or 3 of wine by the fire. The owners of the property live on site and honestly cannot do more for you in terms of making sure every need is catered for. The provide you with any bits of shopping you haven't managed to pick up, they have wine on site that is better than any wine you fine in the supermarket as it is locally sourced. The restaurant suggestions they gave were outstanding. If you want to be left in peace, they do, but if you need to ask for anything its never a bother. The local vineyards are a must to visit. All the large Loire towns are easily accessable by car. Chinon was a favourite! There is a little local bar to get a pint and a bakers with the best pan au chocolates ever. If your after a relaxing, comfatable, over indulgent break away from everything then I would highly recommend it. We will go back ... maybe in the summer to take advantage of the gorgeous 'heated' pool we seen right next to gite and sit outside and take in the freshness of the countryside form the garden.
