“Comfortable but uncomfortable problem”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2014

As an owner of a vacation property on Vancouver Island I am aware of problems which can arise. A good cleaning service is a must. I rented this place for my extended family for a late Christmas celebration. The first night upon turning on the light in the kitchen my daughter was taken aback at the sight of two cockroaches, one she killed. Two more were sighted later and I discovered a dead one in the utensil drawer. The oven had not been cleaned and baked cheese was on the foil in the bottom, so there was a food source. The manager was understanding and assured me the place would not be rented until the problem solved. Apparently there had been a problem in the summer and resolved they thought. Otherwise the place was comfortable and close to our home, however, the visit was cut short by a day.

Response from the manager Thank you for posting your comments. It is always helpful to future guests to know how we respond to a guest concern. We always strive to do our best and make sure the house is 'spit spot' as Mary Poppins would say! However in this case we did miss changing the liner in the oven. We asked if we could go over and fix it, however the guests were settled in and didn't want to be bothered. In addition the guests had no other concerns about the cleanliness of the rest of the house. Now on to the bigger issue. After a succession of visits and treatments we are rid of the unwanted intruders. Until we were 100% satisfied, we did not accept any bookings nor did we have any guests stay. While Mother Nature may want a home for all her creatures, we don't want to share any of the vacation homes we manage with any of them unless they are registered paying guests! I hope this gives all of our future guests confidence that we are responsible vacation home managers and are available to our guests to find reasonable solutions.

“Fabulous getaway home in Niagara-on-the-lake”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2013

This is the third time I have stayed in the Cabernet House over the past 8 years. It is beautiful inside and spacious. While we didn't get to enjoy the backyard it is gorgeous too. We were there for a girls getaway weekend. The kitchen has everything you could need and is perfectly appointed. It is large and roomy. There is a separate laundry room with washer & dryer. The bedrooms are all a good size and have very comfortable beds. We were able to walk to the Main street of town in just a few minutes and it is just across from the Pillar & Post Inn so we were able to walk back after taking advantage of the spa there. We were able to self-check in which was fantastic and the house was ready earlier in the day than we had anticipated. There is a key pad entry so with 6 of us staying there, we didn't have to worry about anyone having (losing!) a key. The rental agency was very easy to work with and wonderfully friendly and made the whole process very smooth. I would highly recommend this house to groups or families looking for an easy Notl getaway. I plan on booking again in the near future.

“Loved Cabernet House”

My Mom, two sisters and one brother-in-law styed at Cabernet House for 5 nights. We came up from the states to surprise my brother on his 50th Birthday. The house was perfect. Very comfortable. The rooms are bigger than they appear in the picture. We did have a minor issue with the Wifi not working. My sister is already planning a return visit to Cabernet House in the spring.

“Exactly Right”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2013

Our group of eight friends just stayed three nights in Cabernet House in Niagara-On-the-Lake. We were warmly received when we arrived with very helpful instructions for the house. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen and living room felt just like home and easily accommodated our large group. We had a BBQ one night and sat out on the deck, enjoying the lovely weather. We had a great vacation and we would definitely stay at Cabernet House again.

Response from the manager Thanks so much for the review!! The back deck is new this year. Returning guests always see something new each year at this vacation home that makes the stay just a little extra special! Janet and Eric

“Great place to stay!!”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2013

I have rented and stay at the Cabernet House twice now. I love the recent renovations. The place is beautiful, spacious, modern and in an excellent location. Walking distance to town for food and shopping. I am a runner and ran along the friendship trail for miles and miles. It is beautiful. My girlfriends and I actualy rents bikes one day and rode along the trail stopping for wine tasting along the way. Tip if you are going to do that: Ride out then stop and taste on the way back. It is a wonderful place to stay.

“a nice vaction home at Niagara on the lake”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2012

Just returned from two days/nights at Cabernet house for this Thanksgiving weekend with other 3 families. Janet and Erie provided a wonderful direction to the house and clear instructions on everthing that we might need to know for the house. The house is very nice: clean, comfortable, good location (a short walk to Downtown Queen street and lake),sufficent space for 8 of us (all adults). Moreover, there is a Diswasher in the house (one old review mentioned that there was no dishwasher in the house. So the owner must have bought one since). We enjoyed our stay very much and had a wonderful time there. We called the office severy times during our stay and received answers immediately. Thanks Janet and Erie for your great hospitality and friendly/efficient management! Jenny from Mississauga

“Great time at the Cabernet House”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2011

We stayed at the Cabernet House in august 2010 and had a great time. The house is very comfortable and clean and has a very nice backyard. The location is perfect, just walking distance to downtown Notl. Can't wait to return.

“Fabulous home for a large group”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2011

We stayed for a weekend with our kids and their spouses. The place had plenty of bedrooms for everyone, and a large kitchen for group meals. It has all been renovated recently and looks quite modern but has the charm and space of an older home. Lots of living room sofa space and feels like home. Close to everything, we walked to Shaw festival and to downtown shops. While we really enjoyed the house and location and rate and the easy process for booking, we did have one misunderstanding where a tour was booked in error for which we were initially charged. Fortunately it was all cleared up successfully.
