“Absolutely the best vacation cottage!! Loved it!!!”
We stayed here for our honeymoon last year and it was the best decision we ever made! The place is even more beautiful than the photos and the hospitality from the owners was superb!! We will absolutely be staying here again and again. Our dogs even loved it!
“What a great place to stay!”
We stayed in the Lake View Cottage. The description doesn't do it justice and we loved it up there. Our son was especially excited that the beach was right across the way and that there was a little boy in Ocean View Cottage to play with. The dogs appreciated the tennis balls that were at the cottage and the list of dog friendly places to check out. The location really is perfect; secluded enough to enjoy the nature and quiet but close enough to town to enjoy the tourist scene. The walk to town is about 1.5 miles. Barrett park was especially fun to take our son and the dogs to play. Susan and Chip are very helpful and are obviously committed to making their cottages your home away from home. We've decided to make this an annual trip!
We were looking for a peaceful, pet friendly place to vacation in Maine and we found it. It was so serene and the neighbors were so polite and helpful. We enjoyed taking the dog for a hike right from the house. The bay was beautiful and appalachee Pond looked like a painting. We really enjoyed our first kayaking experience on the pond. One of our favorite memories will be walking through the Botanical Gardens, the views were breathtaking. We also enjoyed sitting on the deck looking out on Boothbay Harbor and reading a book, it was stunning.
“A very pleasant vacation.”
The owners of the rental property provided us with very good service, right from the day we expressed interest in renting the Ocean view cottage. The information we received about the cottage and its amenities was concise and honest. The owners accepted payment by cheques drawn in favour of a Canadian bank, this made the payment options a lot easier and secure. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 small dogs that travelled to Boothbay Harbour from Nova Scotia by car. We crossed the border at St Stephen-Calais. The drive took about 11 hours. The GPS co-ordinates for the Ocean view & Lakeside cottages are: N 43? 51' 14.6" W 69? 36' 23.8" Access to the Ocean view cottage is at ground level, and you do not have to lug your bags up a long flight of stairs. Although the cottage is located in the woods, the surroundings are well lit by a street lamp and security lighting. The cottage was covered by Wi-Fi. The carpeted living room was comfortably furnished with couches and sofas. A full length deck surrounded by trees came with an assortment of deck furniture, and provided a refreshing view of the ocean while one sipped the first cup of coffee. Finding a place to park downtown Boothbay Harbour was easy. The local Hannaford's grocery store an Irving gas station and pharmacy was a 5 minute drive away from the cottage. There are several restaurants in the area. The sea- food fresh or cooked is abundant, but not cheap. It is a tourist destination and you get what you pay for in most cases. The cottage was a convenient base camp for excursions to the nearby towns of Wiscasset, Belfast, and Camden or to enjoy the famously friendly Canadian shopping experience at nearby Freeport. Boothbay and its surrounds were very dog friendly. The owner of the property was kind enough to check in on us in person and ask if we needed anything to make our stay more comfortable. All of us, the two and four legged ones would like to thank the owners for this very pleasant stay.
“A beautiful coastal weekend in the early summer”
My partner and I checked into the ocean-side of the lovely Booth Bay cottages on the friday evening of a weekend seemed to pass by in just a few moments. Tucked back into the woods between the rocky maine coast and a pond full of painted turtles, the cottages are an equally wonderful opportunity to hop in a kayak and to explore the seaside as to relax on the porch with a guitar or to cook Maine Lobsters. What fun, highly recommended in the off- or high-seasons!
“A beautiful place to vacation when pets are part of the family”
If your "kids" have four legs and fur and you don't want to leave them at home when you go on vacation, then Boothbay Cottages should be high on your list. They don't just tolerate pets, they welcome them, even multiples, and yet, you'd never know that other dogs had been there before. The cottage is super clean, nicely appointed, and very comfortable. With home style amenities at the cottage (including a good kitchen, big TV, nice furniture, relaxing deck, books, Dvds, etc) and the beautiful town of Boothbay Harbor, the ocean, a pond, and hiking trails nearby, your vacation can be as expansive or as self contained as you want, as busy or as relaxed. The owner thoughtfully leaves information in the cottage about local activities, interesting shops, restaurants and more. So, take the dogs. They'll have a good time snoozing in the sun on the deck, taking long walks, and dreaming about all the chipmunks and squirrels they've seen. You'll have a good time, too, and a wonderful vacation.
“If you want to get away to the woods, the lake and the ocean, th”
If you are looking for a quiet cottage in the woods with a view of the ocean, this is it. We spent a lot of our vacation week on the deck overlooking the bay. The beach right across the dead end road was perfect for our 3 year old to play with her sand toys, and the lake was the scene of quiet and peaceful kayak trips as we watched an osprey feed from it. There was plenty of communal area for our group of 12 to gather, and there were enough beds for everyone within the two attached cottages. Take your insect spray in case you want to walk the path around the lake. You can also walk along the area roads and take a peek at other cottages; there was very little traffic. We drove to the park nearby and set up croquet and corn hole there. Many people were enjoying the water there, and you can picnic or play card games under the large pavilion. Boothbay Harbor with all its activities is literally a few minutes away by car. And, finally, your dogs will be in doggie heaven when they realize how many chipmunks are scurrying around the property! They serve as all day doggie TV.
“Wish We Were Still There”
This is our second 3 week vacation at this cottage in 2 years. What a wonderful place. You can't beat a lake on one side and the ocean on the other. The views are fantastic as are the house and the owner. Everything you need is already there. We miss it already and we've only been gone a couple of weeks.
“Peaceful, relaxing lake view cottage”
We were searching for a pet friendly vacation property in Maine and we were not disappointed. The prperty was perfect set in a peaceful wooded location with a wonderful view of Lake appalachee and just a short walk from the beautiful Boothbay Regional Land Trust walks which were ideal for walking the dog off leash. The property is well laid out, with a good level of kitchen equipment although the cooker is slightly showing its age. The main lounge/dining room looks out onto the lake and there is a great balcony with a barbecue for those warm summer evenings. The property comes with access to 2 kayaks for paddling on the lake or you can walk them down to the appalachee residents dock and take them out into the bay - great fun. It should be noted that the residents association do not permit pets on the small beach by the lake. The nearby town of Boothbay just a 1 mile stroll is a very picturesque, pet friendly town with a number of places where you and your pet can eat and plenty of shop owners who will welcome you in.
The Oceanview Cottage met our every need. It was clean, well appointed and certainly dog friendly. After renting different places over the past few years, this was the first cottage with a full and complete set of dishes and glassware that matched! The washer and dryer, shared with the Lakeview Cottage, is in the garage, but not that inconvenient. The private beach on appalachee Pond is directly across the street and was much appreciated by my boys. There is parking for 2 vehicles and if company shows up, parking can be an issue. The WiFi was great, but the cable TV selection was about 10 basic channels only. With children, a broader cable package that includes stations for adolescents would have been appreciated - but it isn't a stopper for my considering renting the same place again. All in all, I give the place 5 stars.
