“Wonderful!”

Reviewed 4 Dec 2013

What a fantastic trip! Barbados is a beautiful island and Shelsea surpassed our expectations. Situated less than two minutes walk to a stunning beach, a very friendly local bar a short stroll away and a comprehensive supermarket within walking distance. Shelsea itself is a lovely well appointed home with a great veranda looking over the gardens (regularly tended by Vike). Many evenings were spent sitting in the peaceful surroundings with a glass of wine, perfect after a day in the sun. Everyone was so helpful and friendly - thanks particularly to Ronnie, Fiona and Yvonne. Special thanks to Sheila whose constant help with arrangements meant everything went smoothly from start to finish. We will definitely return - hopefully in the not too distant future.

“Anniversary Get away x”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2013

Would just like to give a massive thanks to Sheila for an amazing accommodation for myself and my wife to spend our 7th year wedding anniversary, also would like to give a mention to Ron who greeted us with open arms and made our stay a comfortable one, where can I start, Barbados is already like a second home to us from our very first visit, from the beautiful beaches just a minutes walk away down the lane, to the amazing culture of Oistins, the friendly fun buses that took us around the Island for just a few dollars. While we stayed in Barbados a family member was married here and believe me it will be a memory that stays with me for a life time, it was great to have the Shelsea just a stones throw away, to come back to an amazing Villa that just had the feeling of coming back home, spacious, stylish and well maintained, ha speaking of that hope we didn't get the gardener to drunk as he shared a glass of rum with us. An action packed, yet very relaxing stay for us at the Shelsea, a great hammock in the garden of Shelsea for that relaxing afternoon nap, after touring the Island, there are so many things I could recommend for people to do, Turtle swimming, Rockley Golf Club, Harrison Caves, Boat Trips and many, many more. Thanks again Shelia for a fabulous stay at your beautiful home, we will definitely be returning in the very near future x

“The perfect, affordable getaway”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2013

Shelsea was everything it had been described and more. The home is spacious, clean and inviting. The outdoor porch is where we lived, eat, drank and relaxed. Bedrooms are large, have air conditioners and new, firm mattresses. The yard and garden are lovely and the gigantic mango tree provided us with breakfast everyday. The beach is but a 4 minute walk, but better beaches are only a short drive, such as accra Beach, which proved to be our favorite. The home is an easy walk to Oistins and several restaurants and ideally located for visits to all parts of the island. We loved Barbados and Shelsea and will, no doubt, be back.

“At home comfort on vacation.”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2013

The communication with Sheila was excellent. She answered all our questions quickly through emails, and was able to accommodate when we wanted to add some extra days due to travel times. Payments were easily arranged and the invoicing was very clear to understand. When we arrived we got a van taxi from the airport, we had directions to the house but a quick clarifying phone call and we were on our way. Ron met us with the keys and gave us a tour of the house and familiarized us with everything. The house is all anyone could ask for with all the comforts of home. Tastefully decorated, everything was clean and in good working order. We loved the deck and spent most of our time there shaded from the sun if we needed, watching the birds, and admiring the flowers. Every morning fresh mango's from the tree in the yard. There was basic groceries to get us through to morning until we could shop. Our first stop was the quick walk down the lane to the beach then off to Charlies Bar for dinner. There are corner stores close by for snacks and necessary items. Fish market, vegetable stands and groceries could be found at Oiston's all within walking distance or a quick bus ride away. Oiston's is a must see on Friday or Saturday night. St Laurence Gap is close by with great restaurants. We made arrangements with our airport taxi driver to take us to a farmers market and also arranged a private island tour. We took a bus into Bridgetown and did some sightseeing. Maxwell beach was beautiful and very safe. There is a great reef not far from shore for snorkeling even for novices. The water was gentle for swimming and lots of space on the beach for sunbathing even with 2 hotels close by. There were 5 of us in our family group, all adults but agreed it would be a great place for anyone with children of all ages. We couldn't think of anything wrong with our stay. There was some construction going on at a building close by that was a bit noisy but was not enough to be bother us.

“Family Reunion/Christmas 2012”

Reviewed 19 Jan 2013

Shelsea was the perfect place to act as home base for our family members ( 16 of us age12-76) as we celebrated ChristmasNew Years and our return to the island after 4 of us spent 1972 living here! Other family members had rented smaller places that were within walking distance but they were all jealous at how spacious, clean and luxurious Shelsea was. We had a barbeque for Christmas day which was really fun. Dinner on the patio was a wonderful family time. Charile's restaurant just up the lane was perfect for dinner after a long day of driving around the island, a day at the beach or exploring the interior of the island. The beautiful beach down the lane was perfect for an early morning swim/watching the sunset but the kids really enjoyed the bigger waves and the monkeys at Maxwell beach just down the road and the action (and snorkeling) at accra beach ( a 5 min drive) for boogie boarding. Proximity to the Gap kept our teenagers/young adults happy with shopping and nightlife. Everyone looked forward to Fridays for the fish fry and dancing at Oistins. We had a car for the whole 2 weeks but it was not a necessity as the bus is really easy and cheap and taxis, even for large groups are just a call away) Yvonne, Ron, Paul and Lou made sure we had everything we needed and booking/organizing the rental with Sheila was a breeze. We certainly got our monies worth!! We highly recommend this location and the island. Everyone is super friendly, very safe, family oriented, the reefs are amazing if you are a diver ( The Dive Shop in Carlisle Bay ), lots of turtles, gorgeous beaches ( spend 2 days at the Crane- my favorite!!). One of the highlights of our trip was "Good Times" catamaran. We chartered the boat for a sunset cruise and we were treated like royalty from the minute they picked us up. Kenneth the captain provided lots of history and general knowledge of beautiful Barbados. We will be back for Christmas 2015!!!

“the best holiday of my life”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2012

I have stayed at 5 star hotels but this surpassed them all -so much nicer! We were 6 professional women celebrating our 40th birthday "just the girls". We agreed: best holiday of our lives! Sheila, lovely owner, put up with indecision about dates, gave advice on suncream/clothes, arranged for basic groceries on arrival, left welcome folder. It really felt like we had come to stay at a friends house because Shelsea was so comfortable & charming: dining outdoors for al fresco breakfast on garden mangoes, toast, omelettes cooked in user-friendly fully equipped kitchen; cosy cane furniture & audio equipment (plug in yr i-pod) in living room for late night meandering conversations about life, love; wifi to put envy-inducing photos on facebook asap; plenty clean towels so our own redundant (esp. as laundry room has washer, dryer); outdoor hose for washing (most) sand off & cool down before you step indoors; garden with its mango trees, exotic flowers & hummingbirds(really!); gorgeous beach 1 min down alley outside, so close we came back for hat or toilet break without a thought and so safe that bikini no cover-up was fine. What you get is what Sheila promises you on the website - accurate on location, layout, facilities; clean and very well maintained; I've recommended Shelsea to all already. Activities: hard to tear ourselves away from pristine, white sand beach given privacy (only a few other nice guests from neighboring hotels), easy access and beauty, but we went to Oistins on Friday (fun!), Harrison's Cave (astounding!), and hired taxi for tour to see other beaches (ours - the best!), buy cigars & rum (men at home!), snack on streetfood (fried breadfruit, caramelised plaintain, salt cod fish balls, fried flying fish - yum). Tiami catamaran sunset cruise - we felt like millionnaires!Dinner: Champers - gorgeous, overlooking beach near Rockley, delicious food; Cafe Luna - v. pretty, yummy food. Surfer's Cafe great. Best: People - relaxed, friendly, warm, welcoming.

“Perfect Paradise Retreat”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2011

Where should I begin! The excellent location, the spacious house and garden, the amazing wildlife that visited, the small empty beach 2mins walk, the privacy and seclusion the house and garden offered! This place was a real retreat; but also close enough to amenities so as not to make visits to the supermarket etc a hassle. We arrived thinking we would need to hire a car, but access to local buses was a short walk away, making moving around the island a pleasurable experience, the local people were helpful and friendly and would probably not have been encountered had we not been using the local transport system, which is very cheap and regular; loved the fact we could flag down the local reggae minibuses and jump on and off where ever we wanted all for the price of $2 Barbadian, around 60p each trip!! Oistins the famous friday night fish and rum spectacular was a ten minutes ride and not to be missed. Dinner of fresh grilled fish and drinks never rising much above £10 a person, this is also open other nights as well, although Friday's is the main night! I would highly recommend this place for a truly magical experience! On arrival at the house we were met by the keyholder who showed us around and how everything worked, our holiday went without any hitches what so ever, it was what it said on the label. Truly a home from home! On the occasional monsoon afternoon we entertained ourselves by chasing toads and frogs around the garden.! We will definitely be returning to Shelsea where we left part of our hearts!!!

“A perfect place to stay in Barbados”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2011

Just back from a fantastic 2 weeks staying at Shelsea villa on Barbados south coast. 1 min walk to the beach, Shelsea is perfectly located just 1k to Oistins and a short ride to Bridgetown. Elegantly furnished, clean, in very good order and practical. We loved breakfast on the veranda, watching hummingbirds in the trees and even a visiting monkey taking mangoes from the tree. For our family of two adults and three teenaged to young adult children, the house offered great accommodation to really make our holiday base good to be at, more than a hotel or apartment could offer- with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a well set up kitchen with all you need to prepare good food, a big living area and, besides the veranda, a cool airy room with sofas and media entertainment which the children enjoyed when the beach got too much! And the house is set in a good sized, well tended garden with barbeque and lighting - great to sit out in the evening listening to the frogs in such a nice tranquil environment. After a day out touring the island, a lovely house to come home to. Well set up for cooking and eating in, which we did half the time and out at Oistins or up the coast towards St Laurence and Rockley the other evenings. Oistins offers the best food around if you are keen on fish, and is so close. Equally, being 1 min from the beach, we had wonderful easy days spent between the house, the garden and the beach. Many thanks to Sheila and friends for such a well organised holiday villa. Thank you for sending so much information through in advance for and provisions in the fridge on arrival so that we could make the first destination the beach. Clean, tidy, smart house, lots space to relax - room for 5 people to be together or find their own spaces. Comfortable beds, good showers, lots of towels, games, books, laundry facilities, everything covered. We're very glad we found Shelsea and will definitely stay again. Well recommended.

“Perfect”

Reviewed 5 Mar 2011

We absolutely loved Shelsea! It exceeded our expectations in space and amenities (plentiful beach towels, bath towels, linens, even coolers!) The garden was lovely, especially the hammock under the mango tree. Arranging the rental was easy with Sheila even though we were in Canada and she lives in England. Ron, the family friend who welcomed us was very helpful, called a couple times to ensure we were ok & even walked us to the office of his physician when on of the children required attention. Service that really is above & beyond expectation! We missed Barbados as soon as we left, and do hope to return to the beautiful island and perhaps to Shelsea! Many thanks, Jane & family

“Paradise within paradise”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2011

"I can't say enough great things about the Shelsea. From the very beginning of our search for the perfect villa, Sheila was more than fabulous. She helped facilitate our needs and was so easy to get along with. She laid out everything that we would need to make our stay as easy as possible before we arrived and Ron and John continued that support in Barbados. The Villa itself is magical. The garden is filled with beautiful flowers and so much space. Walking into the villa, you are walking into your home away from home. The decor is timeless and everything you could possibly need is very accessible. There were two couples staying at this villa for a wedding and we had more than enough space of our own. With two bathrooms and three bedrooms, it was perfect. My only complaint with the space is that I didn't get to spend enough time there. I was so busy checking out the sites, I didn't get to utilize all this space has to offer. Thank you Sheila and John for creating a little piece of paradise in what is already the most beautiful Island to visit. We look forward to returning to the villa as soon as possible!"
