“A wonderful cottage”
This is a very sweet 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage in Tesuque about 10 minutes outside of Santa Fe. It's minutes to the Santa Fe Opera and 10-15 minutes to the Santa Fe Plaza. Tesuque has two restaurants, a little market grocery store, and two nearby art galleries. The cottage is exactly as pictured with the described amenities. It has a very warm welcoming feeling as if you are entering a friend's home. The living room has 2 full sized sofas and a wood-burning fireplace and dining room. The book shelves are filled with an interesting array of fiction, and in the study, board games and puzzles. There are quite a few books about Santa Fe, the art of New Mexico, and the pueblos, and there is literature for travelers. Wi-Fi at the cottage is excellent. The area surrounding the cottage is peaceful and relaxing. You can walk out the back door and start hiking the hills right away on this beautiful property. In the evenings, you can hear the gentle rustling of the giant cottonwood tree next to the house. The owners of the cottage live just 2 minutes up the road and are incredibly nice people with over 30 years of knowledge of the area, so they are a great resource. A great bonus is the reserved parking space for cottage guests in downtown Santa Fe next to the Plaza where the shops, galleries, museums, and restaurants are located. Another nice touch was the welcome sign with our names inscribed, and the bottle of wine with two chocolate brownie cupcakes waiting for us upon our arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage and will visit again!
Response from the owner Darlene and Mike - Thank you for this very thorough review. We couldn't have added a thing. We did get a new TV and have it at eye level just as you recommended, Mike. We would love to have you return so you can use the lovely tea pot you bought for the house and so we can enjoy you again.
“Home away from home”
This is such a comfortable home. The beds, including the fold out in the living room, were comfortable with good quality sheets and blankets. But the real plus of Freeman's Cottage are the owners, Stephen and Margie. Special touches like the welcome with the wine and truffles is such a nice touch. The parking space in town is a great benefit also. The living room and dining room seating is adequate and comfortable. The area surrounding this home is so beautiful for taking a walk and enjoying the surrounding mountains. I will return to Freeman's Cottage anytime I'm in Santa Fe.
Response from the owner Oh Sheila. How totally fun to have you, Lou, Joan and Dot part of our life for even such a short time. You left the place in beautiful shape - a reflection of who you are. Please, please do return. Margie and Steve
“Relaxing country home”
We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and beautiful setting. This charming home exceeded our expectations and had everything we could have possibly needed. We loved the location, as we seek peace and quiet on our vacations. Our children love the outdoors, and they had plenty of opportunities to explore and interact with nature. Margie and Steve are friendly and gracious hosts. The house is so comfortable, and we were tempted to stay on the property the whole time! We did venture out to explore Tesuque and Santa Fe and love the area immensely. We really did fall in love with this part of the country and would love to come back soon. My job required me to attend a video chat, and the little study was perfect. Thank you for excellent wifi service! That is important to us! The wine and brownie were an added bonus. Loved every minute!!
Staying in this adobe provided just the right mix of country and city we needed to complete our trip. The kitchen and bathroom was well stocked and clean, the beds were very comfy and we even had to turn down the heater in the middle of the night. Margie and Steven were wonderful hosts with plenty of suggestions for activities and they even provided a free parking spot downtown. Thanks for hosting us, we wish you well!
“The giant cottonwood tree and the mountain views would have been enough, but this charming adobe house had so much more.”
This was my first visit to Freeman's Cottage, and I hope to return again and again. First, it was much larger than I expected with two spacious bedrooms, a very large living- dining area, two bathrooms, and an unusually well-equipped kitchen, which we used to full advantage. It also had a beautiful patio overlooking the high desert landscape with views of mountains in the distance as well as a large front yard, the site of the marvelous cottonwood tree. The cottage sits on about 25 acres belonging to the hosts, Margie and Steve, in the village of Tesuque. It is private and quiet, yet only a 5 minute drive to the Santa Fe Opera and a 15 minute drive to Santa Fe. We wanted to be close to town but away from its crowds, traffic and bustle. The house is beautifully decorated and full of art. I have stayed in countless guest cottages, B&B's, and Airbnb apartments in my travels over the years and encountered along the way many hosts. I do not exaggerate when I say that Margie and Steve were the most gracious, friendly, helpful and generous people I have ever stayed with bar none. They are wonderful people who have created the perfect place to get away to Santa Fe.
“A perfect gem”
My husband and I stayed at Freemans Cottage with another couple. The place was perfect -- well equipped, spacious, clean and gorgeously decorated. There were lots of outdoor spaces for enjoying the air. The hosts were charming and helpful and the house showed the pride of their ownership. The cottage is located in a very quiet neighborhood, yet is only minutes from downtown Santa Fe. The downtown parking space that comes with the rental is a nice perk, too. The house was also about a mile from the Santa Fe Opera, which was one of our destinations -- I think it is about the most conveniently located accommodation for the Opera in all of Santa Fe. We have stayed at other rentals in the Santa Fe area, but the Freemans Cottage is by far our favorite. We greatly appreciate the lack of a cleaning fee (I do hate those hidden fees in many nightly rentals), and the easy down payment policy We plan to return to Santa Fe and really hope that we are able to obtain space in the Freemans Cottage. Thank you Margie and Steve for enabling a wonderful vacation.
Response from the owner We loved this couple and their review suggests they loved being here and perhaps meant more than one star. We were wondering if they thought the one star was the best. Thanks for letting us respond. Margie and Steve
“Wonderful, thoughtful, very considerate hosts!”
Margie and Steve are the ultimate hosts. They certainly have set the bar HIGH for what hosting is all about. Freeman's Cottage was comfortable, cozy and clean, with all that anyone could want in the way of conveniences. The master bedroom suite is spacious-the second bedroom quite small. But what made our stay so great were our hosts. We were invited to their home for munchies, Margiritias and stimulating conversation, all superb. We would love to stay again...and again...and again...
“Cozy Cottage in the Hills”
The four of us (2 couples) stayed at the lovely Freeman's Cottage the first week of May. We were delighted at the homey atmosphere of the charming house, and all the amenities it offered. Lovely furnishings and special little touches added to the ambiance of the Santa Fe house - even muffins were provided for our first breakfast! We loved the ample sofas, large dining table, comfy queen beds and beautiful southwest decor throughout the cottage. Located in the mountains with lovely views on the trails, the quiet cottage made us feel like we were on a true vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the city; but only a short drive and we were in the midst of the activity of Santa Fe! Our wonderful hosts, Steve and Margie, were so accommodating! They made us feel as though we had been friends for years. We highly recommend this cottage for a very enjoyable stay in the Santa Fe area.
“Pure downhome and gorgeous in quiet rural neighborhood”
Spent three wonderful days. Cottage was great and owners couldn't have been nicer. If visiting Santa Fe, this was the best option for quiet comfortable living within minutes of the Plaza where we were provided with a close in private parking space which came in handy. For the perfect Santa Fe experience for contemplative folk, Freeman Cottage is just what we were looking for. Owner Margie even has a meditation room nearby at the top of a hill.
“Beautiful and Bright!”
We had a lovely stay at the Freeman's Cottage. Margie and Steve are terrific hosts. The cottage is much larger/roomier than the pictures might suggest. Two bedrooms with lots of space to spread out, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen for cooking, large living room with easy to work wood-burning fireplace, firewood provided. Laundry facilities (washer and dryer) in the cottage, outside back porch for feeling the warm sunshine. Lots of walking/hiking trails around the property. Margie and Steve are so welcoming, yet give you all the privacy you may want. Margie makes the best chocolate-mint brownies!! The cottage is located very close to the Santa Fe Opera House. The free-parking pass for the Santa Fe Plaza is a real plus. The plaza is a short scenic drive from the Cottage. While driving to the plaza, be sure to stop off at the sculpture gardens along the way. We had a lovely walk in the warm sunshine looking at the sculpture art. Oh! Did I mention, the property is dog friendly! We had a wonderful time and so appreciate Margie and Steve sharing their piece of paradise with us. Thank you for the welcome home wine!! Sincerely, Ellie and David
